Meet Seattle's Candidates for Mayor

9:30 AM Sun, Oct 11, 2009 |

Either Joe Mallahan or Mike McGinn will be Seattle's next mayor. Neither has ever held or run for elective public office before. One major difference between the two: McGinn opposes replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct with a tunnel; Mallahan supports the tunnel. But what else do we know about these candidates and do we know enough to choose one over the other? Tell us what you think about Mallahan and McGinn and who you think you might vote for.

You go Joe...It's time to have someone with talent and great credentials to that the reins.

Joe seems nice but I am going with someone who votes. How can Joe not vote, the most basic civic duty, and then expect people who do to cast one for him? Is he one of those ppl who hates government but runs for office? Mike McGinn is savvy, yet transparent.

Mike McGinn has proven his leadership in civil politics over and over again. I'm looking forward to his leadership as our mayor. I will vote for Mike McGinn, and I also plan to vote to Approve Referendum 71 and will vote no on 1033.

Reject Referendum 71 and YES on 1033! Both candidates use the same tired catch phrase of "bringing people together". Neither gave any SPECIFIC plan or priority, just the usual vague political speak. Mike McGinn has some public experience, but is just another Seattle environmentalist (like Nickels). Joe Mallahan has little public service but at least has actual management experience. I believe Joe has more credibility, but neither candidate really inspires me much. @Paige: Most people don't vote in every election. It is wrong to use that alone as a basis for your vote.

Does either have a plan to clean up the city? I see the streets getting worse and worse. Other cities, such as Chicago have made significant progress in cleaning up the city.

I'm glad Joe is stepping up to the plate and taking a change by running for office. He might have a spotty voting record but lets be honest, we're not all perfect, and missing some elections doesn't have anything to do with how he'll lead the city.

As an executive Joe has proven is value, and is ready to change city hall so it once again works for all of us who call Seattle home. He doesn't speak in platitudes, and is willing work with other elected officials to move our city forward. McGinn just isn't right for Seattle. He's already promised to declare war on Olympia his first day in office. How can that possibly be beneficial to Seattle?

I'm voting for Mallahan without question. So should everyone else.

I don't like or trust either one of the two that are running for mayor of Seattle, so I am not voting for either of them. However, I am extremely happy that Mayor Greg "Nicol & Dime Us To Death" got the boot in the butt all the way out of office as Seattle's Mayor!!!!

We have a community organizer in charge of the federal government. Do we need one in charge in Seattle?
