Susan Hutchison is a newcomer to politics but she is way ahead in the polls in the race for King County Executive. Hutchison's long history as a news anchor on KIRO TV gives her a big advantage in name recognition. Here are the results of the latest KING 5 News SurveyUSA poll: 39% Hutchison The race is non-partisan and the primary is on August 18th. There are eight candidates vying for those two spots but she is the only woman in the race. The top two vote-getters will move on to the general election and one of those two looks likely to be Susan Hutchison. So what do you think about her candidacy? Who are you supporting and what is important to you in this race?

In the interview with Sheffler. He asks if she is a dreaded republican, and also if she is a consevitive.
Why? Because he is not? Because she is just another woman to be beat down because she isn't a liberal? I have the feeling they want to start a "Palin" type beatdown of her.
I'll wait until the next candidate comes on the show to see if they are asked if they are dreaded liberals. Or if they are democrats.
I felt a very negitive attitude twords her on this show. It is evident she will shake things up in the workings of the county.
The seattle times is after her too. We know why, they are conservative haters too. Licking their chops at ripping her apart.
Ray-- Everybody knows the other guys are Democrats. They have all run and been elected as Democrats. I have no doubt the campaign (general) will be about trying to pigeon-hole Hutchison as a conservative Republican. We've already seen that from the COnstantine campaign. The questions is, can she handle it? Party affiliation has always been about giving a voters a short-hand (albeit lousy one) in gauging a candidates positions. Remember , it was the Republican members of the council who most recently pushed for non-partisan elective positions. They don't want their minority status to get in their way. Back in the 90s, the last time this came up, it was largely a Democratic effort. They were in the minority then.
You should also note that the Seattle Times did a big investigation on the illegal sealing of court records. I suspect this is about continuing that effort. I'll go so far as to predict the Time editorial board will endorse Hutchison in the primary and in the general.
Since 2003 Susan Hutchison has contributed some $13,575 to Republican candidates, Republican Party organizations and conservative causes according to public campaign fianance records. Of this no money was donated to Democrats or Democratic organizations. Only $50 was donated to a Seattle School Board candidate that couldn't be identified as to party.
You know someone by the friends they associate with and support. Hutchison has supported the campaigns of George W Bush, George Nethercutt, Dave Reichert, Cathy McMorris, BIAW's ChangePAC, Mike Huckabee, Dino Rossi, the King County Republican Central Committee and Mainstream Republican's of Washington.
It's pretty obvious that her history is a strong affiliation with the Republican Party and conservative issues. Her "non-partisan" gambet is just that, a campaign ploy to try to hide her political philosophy from the voter's of King County.
If she won't own who she is and what she stands for (conservative and republican by my research) - I just don't trust her. She's riding on name familiarity only and I really hope the electorate does their research on ALL candidates and not just pick a name because it's familiar! I wish I could trust voters to do the due diligence but experience has shown this isn't how things work especially in the primaries!
Whether she's an R or a D, it would be nice to hear her speak more to the issues. So far, I haven't heard much from her to help me conclude she has a clue on how county government runs.
Regardless of what she says, she's a Republican. Send her down the road. Old ideas, reduce taxes, support business, let the rest of live off of trickle down economics. She and her ilk like it because they are the privileged few. But what we've learned over the past 8 years is it's a lie.
Susan Hutchison has been a solid supporter of conservative candidates, but she is thoughtful person and not just another a political hack. I strongly support her for County Exec. I lived in Seattle for 20 years and still work there frequently. The transportation system is a mess and Susan will be much better able to improve living and working conditions than any of the "status quo" big government candidates. Dale Foreman, former Majority Leader State House of Representatives. Wenatchee
This is sort of of the subject, but I find it funny our state is in financial trouble and from what I understand the Democrats have been running it for some time. Bush and the Republicans didn't run the state budget in the ditch, the current leaders are spending more than they have. When do we get this through our heads and start voting these spenders OUT of office with some new ideas? I am not a supporter for any one candidate.
Susan Hutchinson ducked the question of whether or not she is a conservative. I don't think this is her worst problem. What I see is that in addition to not identifying herself as a conservative, she has not given any concrete examples of how she would fix any of the problems facing King County. It is time for the voters to get some specific policy positions. Susan, it is time to bore us with details.
susan who??
forget all the left wing / right wing BS- who is susan?? what are her qualifications??
Her BA in business-her PHD in economics?
What qualities does Susan have that qualifies her as the best choice for King County exect?? The 'news people' seem incapable of asking the question-
She is a right wing republican. Like all right wingers they can not admit what they are. She is not honest that is her problem. It does not matter if she is a republican or a democrat. She can not be HONEST!!! Very bad choice if she gets in. She knows she will lose as a right wing, anti-choice, Huckabee supporter. I was almost ready to vote for her but I can not vote for an openly dishonest person!!!!
Seeing Susan out this evening at the International Parade was nice. Too bad she won't answer the question we all know the answer to. Anyone who donates to republicans is likely a republican. Please do some research on the other candidates before your ballot arrives in the mail and is due back by August 18th. There are actually other people in the race. Please make an educated choice.
On the last show Susan Hutchison answered a question about her partisan affiliation by saying in part "I am non- partisan - I have never affilialted with a political party."
Now, I don't care what party, if any, she sees as closest to her philosphical leanings but that answer was more than misleading. The political consultant she hired advertises their firm as "the go-to consulting firm for Republican candidates." (www.dresner-wickers.com)Ms Hutchison came close to running against Maria Cantwell (as a Republican) in 2006 but stepped aside for Mike McGavick. There are numerous press stories about that almost candidacy. She has made more than $15,000 in political contributions to exclusivly Republican candidates and organizations over the past 5 years -
Again, that is OK by me - what is not OK is to say "I am a non-partisan person - I have never affiliated with a political party" she needs to be held accountable for that less than honest answer.
Under close examination, she dodged every single question. She wouldn't even say if she was for light rail. Perhaps because Freeman Development(huge anti-light rail people) has given thousands of dollars to her campaign. It's important because it demonstrates that Hutchison will follow the positions of her 98% republican donors.
Non-partisan...I don't think so.
Susan H. is a good candidate. So is Robert Kelly for Judge. See the video at

Tell your friends!
Vote for Robert Kelly!
I've noticed that in a lot of articles I've read about Susan Hutchison they criticize her for claiming to be non-partison because she is clearly a conservative. They claim that that makes her a Republican. I'm a conservative, but I'm not a Republican. I'm an independent. Contrary to what people like to believe, the Republican party is not a party of conservatives--at least not any more. At one time they were, but these days I don't think the Republican party has any real political convictions. What used to be the party of ideas has become the party of wimps and cowards. So, when Hutchison says she is non-partison, I'm inclined to believe her. And yes, I am voting for her. One of the reasons why I've decided to vote for her is because her opponents seem to be totally frightened of her, going so far as to crash her news conferences. Now why is that??
I support Susan and will vote for her. I was very uncomfortable watching Kiro 7 talk about the lawsuit she had filed against them.
Wow, she called in sick for 2 days. Just about everyone in the United States has done that. She brought up issues that were bothering her to the Kiro boss dealing with drugs, sexual misconduct, etc. Her boss got pissed off and fired her. He is still angry today because it cost Kiro 7 some bucks to settle. I am longer watching Kiro 7. She worked for them for 20 years and they chose to attack. Women are still dealing with the angry good ole boy clubs of America. Yuk!!
Hang in there Susan. There are many women who deal with unfair issues in the work force who understand your pain.

Given a choice, I will usually vote for a QUALIFIED woman candidate. However, I will not vote for Susan Hutchison for several reasons. (1) As far as I can tell she has no qualifications for the position of County Executive other than name familiarity and media skills gained during 20 years as a news anchor/reader; (2) she has avoided appearing at open forums or Q&A sessions so the voters don't really know what she thinks; (3) she has presented no new ideas about how she would deal with King County's problems; (4) she continues to identify herself as non-partisan; however, records reflect her support of Republican candidates and causes; why not be upfront about this? She is running for public office which should include a thorough examination of her background.
