Time to give up the Sonics ghost?

7:37 AM Sun, Apr 19, 2009 |

Is it time Sonics and NBA fans to give up it up? Here's what KING 5's Chris Daniels reported this past week:

Senate Ways and Means Committee Chairwoman Margarita Prentice, (D) Renton, says SB 6116, which would allow King County to use certain tax streams to fund projects like a Key Arena remodel or Husky Stadium renovation looks "very, very doubtful" that it will get out of committee.

Prentice says no one has talked to her about it recently, and there has been no discussion about proceeding on the bill, which had a public hearing back on March 18.

There's just one week left in the legislative session. Lawmakers are still dealing with huge budget problems and big cuts to healthcare and education. It's hard to imagine SB 6116 will get any more attention. Even mayoral candidate James Donaldson, a 14 year NBA veteran, says returning the NBA to Seattle is not on of his top ten priorities if he gets elected.

So, is it time for diehard NBA fans to give up the NBA coming back to Seattle?

Do I still carry a torch for the Seattle SuperSonics?

It took all of a "Seattle second" to think of my answer to that question.

Just don't let Jeff Probst near this torch!

My attitude is "Just say NO to Oklahoma!"

This amounts to a veritable boycott of everything Oklahoma in my book, until they return our team!

Let the whole NBA thing go! As far as I am concerned I NEVER want to see the vile scum that is the NBA ever come back to Seattle! I was pretty mad at first when the Sonics left but I think it was the best thing to happen to this city! No way should the city, state or any public agency use a penny of public money to help a billionaire get a new sports' palace. If some private party wants to come in and build them a new arena, more power to them, but no public money!!! David Stern & his thugs poisoned any passion I had for pro sports.

Once again, Margarita Prentice proves to be an idiot. SB6116 made it out of committee yesterday. And heck yes I want the NBA back. I also want that senile dictator David Stern to retire.

The NBA leadership needs to change first before I even watch the NBA on the TV. Those arrogant bastards will not receive my money. The HATE in Seattle against David Stern is still very strong.

Give it up! Basketball is DEAD in Seattle. Forget about it and support what we HAVE, the Seahawks and Mariners.

I fail to understand why the taxpaying public insists on pandering to a bunch of spoiled multi-millionaires. The city voted (twice!) not to build a special new stadium, yet we now have two. They are located in the congested heart of an already dysfunctional traffic mess. Every time a sports event occurs, the streets of the downtown area turn into a miniature Manhattan, replete with impossible gridlock. Police are forced to block the scant few arterials in order to cope with the undereducated masses of intoxicated sports fans. Yet the overpaid athletes don't contribute even a portion of their over-bloated incomes to help out. Send them all to Oklahoma, or any other location retarded enough to want them.
