King County Executive Ron Sims is leaving office to take a job as the number two person in charge of the department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). One of the Seattle area's most popular politicians, Sims has never been able to extend his popularity statewide, failing in bids to become a Senator and a Governor. Now after 23 years as an elected official he is heading back to Washington DC. Sims says he will keep his home here but won't run for office again. What do you think Sims' legacy is? Would you like to see him seek elective office again or are you happy to see him move on? 23 Comments |

Ron Simms needs to retire. I don't think he will do a good job at HUD.
The Peter Principal is alive and well in D.C. That seems to be the only way to get rid of Ron Simms and his entitlement based policies. His policys are in line with the a current administrations entitlement based socialistic experiment. Those who still live in King County know first hand of the services we lack due to Simms turning County Government into a Transportation company. Services like fire, police, roads and development have for the most part been reduced to marginally functional and used by the breaucrats as a motivational tool to incorporate. The "real" King County "tax payer" is left with substandard essential services from the Ron Simms Bus company focus. We need to make sure he stays in D.C. GOOD RIDDANCE...Please take some friends with you! I am tired of paying for the Kingdome...
Dont let the door hit ya in the ass, we need to get rid of our lawmakers that insist on promising everything under the sun to everybody. This is not america anymore, people need to wake up vote these corrupt unrealistic people out of here. Im watching the latest on the Burris scandal while I write this. Democrats knew about this 9 days ago but dont release it until after the spendulis package was approved, wait they never released it, it was leaked out to the media. WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
I work for King County and think that Ron Sims has been a very strong leader for both the County government and for the community he has served. He is very passionate about his vision for the County and I believe he will bring this same passion to the national level. People may disagree with his positions on issues; but, from my perspective as both a employee and resident of King County, I believe he has been one of the strongest leaders we have seen in this state in a long time. His move to a national position will only have a positive benefit for us here in the pacific NW; as I am confident that he will frequently consider this area when developing policy or making decisions in his new role.
Crap. Now he has $39B to squander instead of $5B.
$100M is a lot of money Mr. Sims.
This is VERY good for King county and the state. Ron sims has been a thorn in King county for too long and now his incompetence will become painfully obvious in a short time.
It is my opinion that he will not be seen in a very favorable light when his personal bias takes over and his true persona is exposed nationally.I say goodbye ronny and please stand by your statement to never again seek elected office.
Ron Sims has done an absolutely terrible job in KC, and I'm glad he's out of our hair.
Considering he is the one elected official to ban saying Merry Christmas in the work place, he belongs in D.C. with the rest of the fools.
Yes 100 million is alot. It's all of 288 minutes in iraq.
Close the door and don't come back to Seattle ever.
Wow, he is going from one disaster to another (self inflicted). He will piss people off there to I am sure.
Good riddance Mr. Sims. You have finally completed your worthless stint in our beautiful city, squandering our hard earned money on what? Nothing. You will fit in nicely with the DC folks.
I am tired of the Repulican chuckle heads on the forums, they whine and complain. Yes Ron Sims has not alway made the right decision but he has tried harder and worked harder than any returdican would have. And obviously people who claim that dems are socialist obviously would not know a socialist if one hit them in the face. Everyone has a different view as to help this country, I do not see you chuckleheads doing anything but complaining, go volunteer or if you don't like the canidates we elect, run for office yourself and maybe you will see how hard it is to do the job they do.
I have two words for you, QUIT COMPLAINING!
Meg,
I don't hear complaining I hear celebrating. The only people who are praising this guy are Government BURUECRATS who suck their pay from our pockets. Cut the buget governor/mayor and start with the State Payroll. Cut the red tape. If we don't we will be the next California. Come on people make money producing something instead of getting paid to control others!!!!!! We are wasting Millions upon Millions! So I am not complaining about Ron leaving I am celebrating!
Hey Ron, take your liberal ideas and your lack of leadership to WDC. You will do fine working for an idiot. The only blessing in this is that repentant liberal talk will no longer be anywhere near King County.....Shut the door behind you!!!
Hey Merg,
Take some of the stimulus money, and go back to school, so you can learn how to spell. Typical liberal. If only Sims would take the mayor, governor, the liberals in the state house & senate, and people like you with him. We could actually get something done in this state.
Good-bye and Good Riddance --- now the rest of the country can suffer.
Hey Bob,
Just curious, but what exactly would you get done if all of the liberals left Washington? You seem quick to try to get rid of people who don't share your opinions, but you don't offer solutions. So what do you think Washington could get done if the liberals left?
GOOD RIDDANCE!!!
Unfortunetly his tax and spend imoral ethics will fit in perfect with the new social order..big brother ..here he comes!! At least it's a blessing to relieve Washington of his idiotic input..
To Merg. We still have the right to complain. By the time you socialistic -------(fill in the blanks) get done it will be against the law to complain.
To All The Good Citizens Who are Glad To See Ron Sims Go:
YOU ARE ALL NUTS!! What do you think (I'm sure that's a new word for most of you based on these comments) the job of County Executive is all about? Do this many of you think the County Executive can really go out and spend money at the drop of a hat? Can you really be that misinformed about local governance? Do your homework BEFORE you decide to complain about a man that spent the better part of his career trying to make this piece of dirt we call King County livable. Remember, all of you WANT. You want this for your house, that for your kids, and something completely different depending on the day of the week. Can any of you do better? If so, then step up; take part in your own destiny and get involved in the process, be part of the solution, not the problem. It's ok, wait till you see what comes into office next! Could be another Tim Hill (those of you that might remember his tenure in office will think of Ron Sims fondly) to rip us off. Careful what you wish for. It's always easier to blame somebody else for your misfortunes and problems.
Glad 2 See Him go. Hope he dont screw up HUD like he did King CO.
County "executive", what a laugh. Government is home to the stupid, useless, lazy and weak. Clock punching parasites who mark time until they can retire early to continue their life of leisure. One week in the private sector would put Ron Sims and his bretheren on stress leave.
