It has been a long campaign season. The presidential candidates have been at it for more than a year and hundreds of millions of dollars. Democrat Christine Gregoire and Republican DIno Rossi arguably have been running since 2004. They are breaking spending records too. It's deja vu in the 8th Congressional District features with two candidates, Darcy Burner and Dave Reichert, who faced off in 2006. People in the Puget Sound face Proposition One for the second year in a row. This year's Prop One offers more light rail -- but nothing for roads. And it wouldn't be fall without a Tim Eyman initiative. I-985 is Eyman's self-styled "congestion relief' bill. On top of everything else, eight of the state's nine congressional races feature incumbents who are prohibitive favorites. Finally, there are the political ads -- an endless, tedious supply of them.
But we also have uniquely challenging issues, like Initiative 1000. It's rare to vote on something so fundamental to how we see the world. It's literally a life and death matter. We get to decide some very close races for the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Lands Commissioner and for an open seat for State Treasurer. These decisions all offer real opportunities for voters to change our government. And finally, there's the humor, the music and the occasionally inspiring rhetoric that elections engender.
So here's the question. Are you tired of it all or will you be sorry to see it go on Tuesday?
"Sorry to see it go"?? What kind of an insane question is that? The only people sorry to see it go are the media outlets that took in buttloads of advertising dollars for the campaign commercials they aired or printed..Y'all better be getting some fat Christmas checks in the pay envelope this year.
Definitely tired of it all!! We need to limit the campaigning to 6 months before the election - afterall, we heard it all the first month anyway! I am so tired of the bickering, the empty promises (from both sides, as aren't these the same issues for decades?), and the media bias. It is obscene as to how much money is wasted in all of this. If the expenditure was put towards the problems that the candidates propose to fix, we could make real progress without more taxes! And what is with these primaries occurring over a six month period? They should all be within a month. It is another way to influence people with the band-wagon effect instead of fostering real thought and selection.
I can't believe Cathy Allen is still appearing on KING5 as a spokeshole for the Democratic Party despite Erica Barnett's recent revelations [http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=703427] of Allen working politically for Republican office holders Rob McKenna and Doug Sutherland.
You also failed to mention today that the Commissioner of Public Lands race would not be competitive if reports of Sutherland's sexual peccadilloes had not been revealed last summer, a hard news fact that should be included in any fair political discussion. It was reported in print by real reporters it was not innuendo or blogfodder.
The credibility of your historically balanced show is in question by my lights. Am I wrong?
The best way for me to answer your question is to say that today, I finally saw a political ad that wasn't vicious nor vindictive. Perhaps the creators of the advertisement had run out of venom. Anyway, it was refreshing to hear an idea, to see a fact checked and to know that there was a tangible reason for the ad after all.
Yes, please, end this all Tuesday! Thanks for your show, as always.
You bet I am tired of it. I am tired of hearing what the opponent is doing wrong, or how the opponent plans to mess things up intentionally, or how little experience the opponent has. How am I supposed to make an educated decision on my voting ballot if the candidates don't tell me what they plan to do right?
What is most disappointing is all the negative
adds that attact a person personally instead of addressing the real issues they stand for.
Everyone keeps urging people to vote, but if it all becomes too negative more like smear campaigns then I fear it will actually turn people off and away from voting. I will vote, but I am getting to the point where it's like watching kids fighting. If you can't determine who to really believe both get disciplined. Well, here if it gets to the point where you can't tell the truth of the campaign through the personal smear campaign then neither get my vote.
Is that really what the politicians want? Maybe we should go back to talking about the issues at hand and make an intelligent decision based on the issues and leave the smearing behind.
Still be sure and vote. Your vote really does make a difference and you owe it to yourself to speak up!
You don't even have to be a Christian to realize, civilizations that practiced human sacrifice we're all wiped out or eliminated from the face of the planet! End abortion now! VOTE MCCAIN!
Campaign season is over, EXCEPT IN WA STATE!!!!!
Look at any of the other 49 states and all 95-100% of precincts have reported.
Look at WA and you will see that in most cases only 45-55% of precincts have reported.
EMBARRASSING!!!!

Boy, I totally agree with this one - Hey Tim Eyeman, here's a project for you!!!
Wow Tammy? How is it human sacrifice and abortion actually relate in the grand scheme of society other than some people hate it and some people hate it but realize it is a needed evil because a child begotten of rape is a child of the Devil? Since you are christian, do you not believe that children of Satan should be allowed to roam this world?
The funny thing is that I say that to inflame Tammy because she is most obviously narrow minded. I dislike abortion but the bible is very clear on this one simple fact that so called christians like Tammy forget. God gave us the free will to follow him or not and told us to forgive each other of ours sins as he does for us if we truly want to be forgiven.
But since Tammy got completely off the topic I had to respond with common sense christianity, not the radical form that cost the republicans the election.
OH yeah, I was so glad that the elections are over. Now I can't wait for all the people whos canidates lost just shut the bleep up and went on with their lives.
