Attorney General: McKenna or Ladenburg?

6:53 AM Sun, Oct 12, 2008 |

Rob McKenna is the incumbent Republican Washington State Attorney General. He is considered a rising star in the Republican party, a candidate with bi-partisan appeal who has been mentioned as a likely candidate for governor. His challenger is Democrat John Ladenburg. Ladenburg has been the Pierce County Executive and the Pierce County prosecutor. He attacks McKenna for not being a strong consumer advocate, especially regarding ID theft and gasoline prices. McKenna cites improvements in Washington's ID theft ranking nationally and his study that found no collusion in gas pricing. What do you think? Can Ladenburg unseat McKenna?

I think it is time for John Ladenburg. I believe his credentials prove he is someone who knows what is really going on and can more effectively direct the Office of Attorney General in handling legal matters of Washington State. He is a prosecutor, but also a manager of a legal office. Ladenburg is also an active advocate for the people he serves.
Is McKenna afraid of a little aggressiveness by stating the AG is not a prosecutor? It's time for someone who rolls up their sleeves for performance not foppery. Voting for Laddenburg.

McKenna will get my vote.

This was an interesting mini debate - here are the facts as I have lived them over the last 4 years.

Mr. Ladenburg has been the Pierce County Exec for quite some time. The last 4 years I have had many involvements with the Pierce County Council & he NEVER responds. His job as I see it is to respond & when appropriate help those that put him in office. Not just the ones on issues he personally is interested in. Matters that are before the county council should also be of interest to him. The matter I was involved in went on for 4 years & he was to appoint a citizen's advisory group. He made a lame attempt, but it was with the guidance of an Animal activist from KING COUNTY & not based on the resumes of experience required for any of the 7 appointment positions. To date this has never been done. I was not a 'friend' of the particular Animal Rights person & the slander that went on about all those that keep parrots in Pierce County was horrendous! This matter faded into the woodwork since the animal rights person passed away.

I have had dealings with Mr. McKenna's office over the last 4 years also. I have found it a refreshing experience. ALWAYS there is a response & these are not about personal issues. His office is going after some ID thieves that stole from not only the business I work for but also some bigger companies. His office has not allowed them to 'appeal out'. They are going after them full force!
In the matters of the sale / merger with different firms and Puget Sound Energy he has also been very effective. I am certain that if his office had not taken action that this merger that is not only bad business but not in the interest of the local energy/gas users that rely on PSE.
I could go on & on...

Mr McKenna has earned the vote of all WA residents & has managed his office well. He truly works for & looks out for the rights & against the wrong doings for all Washington's citizens.

i know the national media is biased, but this is really the first time i have noticed locally that you are biased. the way you reported, and asked questions. its like you are in business to defend all the democrats. thats sad. you guys are supposed to be protecting all of us, not just your party.

Like Marci, I can only speak from experience living under Ladenburg. While he sounds real, its all talk and no walk. Pierce County has suffered under Mr. L and the only good things that have been accomplished he takes sole kudos for and ignores all the citizens, etc. that actually made any of these accomplishments possible. Intensely disliked in his own County- that's why McKenna was awarded more of the voting percentage. I don't know who "Gordon" above is, but he absolutely only knows the hype about Ladenburg and none of the reality. Hey- this guy even lied from the start of his campaign... remember the Kessler endorsement embarrassment? Yeah, we REALLY need an AG who starts out on a lie....

Just watched the debate between the AG candidates.

Bottom Line:

Ladenburg is a big windbag.
McKenna was cool, calm and collected.

Any surprise about who I'd be voting for?

Rob McKenna is a classy guy and has done a good job as Attorney General. Next to him Mr. Ladenburg appeared pety and small.

Rob McKenna has been a good Attorney General and was clearly a classy guy in comparison to Mr. Ladenburg, who came off as petty and small and nasty.

Rob McKenna is the best person we could have for Attorney General. He fought for the people's right to initiative when the Democrats tried to stop an initiative because they didn't like it, and he won in the state Supreme Court. He fought for the people of the state when they choose the top-two election and won all the way including in the US Supreme Court. Rob McKenna is the best Attorney General the people of Washington could possibly have.

Ladenburg has my vote. He truly wants to be the best at his job. I believe McKenna tries to point out faults that aren't there, he avoids questions on how he would solve issues his way, even stutters under pressure showing a TRUE sign he has no idea what he's talking about.

McKenna is not my favorite, however he performs much better than Gregiore did. However Ladenburg is an implant and did a terrible job as Pierce county prosecutor. The auto dealers in Puyallup made sure he lost his job as Pierce county prosecutor. Who will he piss off now?
Ladenburg go away.

Hey Mike - didn't you watch the shows with Lori Matsukawa??? She was so liberal biased it would have made you sick.

First Ladenburg criticized McKenna for appearing in PSAs. Now he criticizes him for not doing enough about identity theft. He should review all those PSAs that his staff told him he didn't like. Identity theft was one of McKennas first and strongest drives in office. I -hope- McKenna is a rising star in the party, he's certainly doing well as AG. Maybe he can train a replacement so that when he does move up Ladenburg won't creep in.

Guys, if you want a featherweight, vote Ladenburg.
If you want a heavyweight on open government issues and a team player in Olympia, vote RMK/McKenna.

The way that I look at items is simple.
Both are good, but neither is up to the Job.

McKenna, still has NOT made the effort to enforce ANY disability law and help out disabled Veterans.

Ladenburg, has allowed the NEW buildings to go in without ANY access to the disabled!

So, when it comes to covering this issue, Disabled Veterans are still left out in the COLD while the rest of the population has the rights.
I thought, we have laws to give every citizen the right to go anywhere in this state. I guess the "normal" (TAB) people just want the utopia to exclude Disabled Veterans who gave them these rights!!!

So now go and grill both and don't stop until you get the straight answers on this issue! unless you are scared as to what you might find out!!!!!

The above contemplation is smart and doesn’t necessitate any further calculation. It is great thought from my side.
