Is non-partisan voting good for government?

6:14 PM Fri, Aug 01, 2008 |

In the primary on August 19th, King County voters will be asked to take the first steps toward a non-partisan county government. It's called Initiative 26 and it would turn the King County Executive, Prosecutor, Assessor and Council offices into non-partisan positions. Supporters say parties get in the way of local government. They argue, most local issues are not partisan. Opponents say, this is a Republican ploy to get more Republicans elected. What do you think? Are political parties bad for government?

NO, NO, NO! Non partisan voting should not be considered as an option. Living in Bothell we have a Mayor that is in a "non-partisan" position. However if you do research you find the our Mayor is republican and endorses other politicians that are republican/GOP. Visiting other republican or GOP political affiliations you find his our very own Mayor endorsing the republican/GOP political positions I have yet to find a democrat that has an endorsement from our Mayor.

If local government officials are to be "non-partisan" they should be prohibited from endorsing any political party. If more people or citizens of Bothell actually know that our Mayor was republican/GOP, chances are he would not be our Mayor.

Since our Mayor has been in office he has allowed massive dense residential development, closing streets, provided engineered beautification to residential developments (home owners association) for the average household values of approximately $600,000 and up to a tune of $80,000 versus an dead end asphalt path for a residential development (not a home owners association) valued below $400,000 of a tune of $5,000. There are plans to to further restrict street widths and eliminate bicycle lanes.

Non partisan politics are toxic to local communities and is the final steps to erode the fundamental foundation that feeds into our state and federal political machines and should NOT be allowed.

Yes nonpartisan voting is good for government, it makes all that are running for office more responses to all of their people and not just to their constituency. Also this gives the people the freedom to whom is going to run this country.if the people were limited to only voting for one party or the other it would be very boring and more divisive.

Well, the question arises on just what the word non-partisan means to people who hold public office. For the voter, it means not knowing what political ideology and party the candidate for office stands for. Non-partisan only serves to muddy the waters, create more gray area, and shirk reponsibility to his/her constituants when the moment of opportunity arises. For the politician non-partisan means they can cross party lines when the heat gets to hot in the kitchen. Yes, republicans can use this vehicle of opportunity to run to the democratic side, and vice versa. However, is this no surprise to any of you? The whole country is moving over to a quazi one party system. Where does that leave the constitution and true democracy in our republic? Time will tell. Would you like living in the United States of Corporate America? No brainer.

If I understand yes, yes, yes correctly, your an idoit. You see, smart asses like you make such statements thinking it will only apply to others and not you. In politics when one gets fucked, all get fucked. Even the rich.
