Can Republicans really be green?

1:10 PM Fri, Jun 06, 2008 |

mccainblog.jpgWe recently witnessed Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain tramping through a soggy Pacific Northwest forest, calling global warming a national security issue.
We also caught a glimpse of Republican Congressman Dave Reichert opening up the Mount Rainier National Park after windstorm damage in 2007.
And just this week, we heard Republican gubernatorial candidate Dino Rossi sing the praises of his relatively high mileage hybrid SUV.
What's going on here? Are Republicans getting greener?

No, Republicans arent getting "green". Neither are Democrats. "Green" is a term reinvented by the media that the poltical camps are trying to follow because its a voter magnet. Watching some candidate on TV getting his feet a bit muddy after a short walk or seeing a seated politcian standing in the woods hugging a tree does not make them..."green".

Republicans have always luved Clean air and water. Republicans just draw the line at revoking our personal and private property rights.

According to greeners, trees have more rights than i do, but the trees dont pay taxes.

Present day Environmentalism is just a backdoor way to raise taxes and "Socialize".

Republicans are anything but green, especially the republican who runs our country. How many times have we seen President Bush talk about the promising future of a green economy? How many times have we seen him promote biofuels in the annual state of the union? Yet, he continually does nothing to back up what he verbally supports. In the fiscal year of 2006, he gave $300 million to the ethanol industry, roughly the same amount of money spent in Iraq EACH DAY! He cut taxes for big oil right when gas first started climbing above $2.00 per gallon. For the most part, Republicans believe global warming is just a liberal concoction that we created to promote our environmental agendas, thus giving them the right to ignore us, continue to drive Suburbans, and neglect the one planet we can actually live on.

Belief in global warming or not, why take the risk? Why possibly destroy the one place we have to live? Is owning an SUV really worth putting the earth in peril? Correct me if I am wrong, but we don't have any where else to live, so we should probably take care of the one space we have.

I'm sorry, but the subject is ridiculous. Party affiliation doesn't necessarily mean that the individual has to subvert their personal values. A good politician, Republican or Democrat, represents the sensibilities of their constituents.

You'de expect a politcian from Michigan to tread lightly, knowing that the emissions from their large manufacturing base are critical to the economy. Likewise, in the NW, the air quality and outdoor lifestyle favored by residents leads us to be far more conservationist.

Too many will use G.W. as a bellweather for his party, just as the Republicans used Clinton to characterize his. But look at folks like our own Reichert, who seem to buck the "party" and act like someone who really understands the people he or she is elected to represent.

Naw, party only has something to do with your views if you're one of the many weak-willed, power-hungry, party-line-toe'ing fools. Thankfully, in our state at least, we have some pretty smart cookies in both parties.

Are Republicans getting greener? Yes, they have too Gregorie is in office. [Pardon me, but have seen the track record of big oil in the past] High school buddy Trace Warner (he has a brother Brent) cleaned up commencement Bay, haven't be able to outdo him. He talks about chemicals and I have no idea what he's talking about, but I sure he did good work. Heard, Reagan Dunn say that ethanol was causing a problem. I don't believe it. The Party chose as their caucus leader a guy from Alabama over Congressman Reichert. I do know Dave Ross beat him in a debate, but he ran an ad with Dave Ross in a beard, ad that was it. Maybe Darcer Burner will fair better, but probably not its a man's world. John McCain been about big oil until he comes here.

What if we stopped asking absurd questions like whether Republican can be green -- doesn't KING TV try to present an image of fairness -- and focused on a few simple things that we can do to improve our environment even if they are practical as opposed to trendy?

Improve efficiency of vehicle fleets. This will be important because the greenhouse gas bill passed this year (HB 2815) includes greenhouse gas reporting based on the tons of greenhouse gas emitted by a company or entity, which includes local governments.
Improve energy efficiency of public buildings.
Improve transit systems through making land available for carpools, trails, etc.
Promote transit oriented development, urban infill, mixed use, or other development projects that will reduce the need for single occupany vehicle trips.
Review OFM population projection as allocated to each city by the county, to ensure that city is providing sufficient housing for its job growth. Doing this will also help determine whether certain cities outside King County are in fact providing the housing supply for King County’s job growth.

In this state and the country, the GOP have always been on the side of nature. It was Slade Gorton and Ralph Munro who stopped the brutal capture of our beloved Orca's in the 70's. Go back to Teddy Roosevelt who put more land under protection than any other Us President--Then go the G W Bush who put more ocean under protection than any other Pres. Nixon signed the most significant federal legislation for the environment.

The far left have recently snookered the public into believing that their anti business/property and pro big government agenda is all for the environment--it is not.

It is simply and true; the only countries with any real interest in environmental protection are free market democracies--socialistic countries have been disastrous for the earth.

And current administration that said "no" to the Kyoto accords. That Governor Whitman left the EPA under year 2005, not 1905, and now is back in Jersey. Just not buying it. Most people in the puget sound have a green aspect to their policy but it is not [R]epublican. There they are more likely to throw out Kyoto, and wait. We're not talking about socialism here we're talking about negotiations.

Don't get dumbed down by the elected leaders. When its a matter of a shopping mall or a fish ladder, the fish will win everytime. If its a matter of a shopping mall or a playground for kids, the shopping mall will win every time. Its where they play your emotions that will determine the outcome. Don't be suckers people!

Since KING5 is obviously on the "green" bandwagon, I wonder if they've changed all those big news vans to biodiesel / hybrid technology yet. And what about the helicopters? Sure, they're "necessary" and not available yet as electrically powered, but a lot of us need cars and rely on gas fuel - and we can't just raise our advertising rates to pay for it.

Another thing: Are you only interested in party unity when its on your terms? How about this:

"Can Democrats really admit that Global Warming is a farce?"

See how that divides and makes generalizations?

Why can't you just report the news?

If a Republican can turn " green ", then we do not need space suits to travel and walk on the Moon. Wild idea right? Well it is. Under Republican leadership our country has gone down hill. The shame is, people finely are waking up to understand the bottom line for republicans for years has been " how much money can I make".
The Democrats on the other hand, seem more willing to stand up for all of us, not only big oil. I do not think a republican can " turn green", as that would be a total joke per history of our land.

Please don't drill more. I like to pay as much as possible for my gas and diesel to run my business. I hope to pay more more in the future. I'm sure our friends in the Mideast are doing all they can to help us. It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over to submit and to send my money over there in hopes that they change their attitude towards infidels. With Obama crawling over there with his outstreched arms and his pretty talk I'm sure all will be well. I will leave it up to the government to take care of me. I'm sure our congress has a good reason for not using our own resouces, like the rest of the world does. Gee, I wish I was as smart as those guys and gals. While your're at it, raise my taxes some more to pay for open borders, health care, free college tuition, greenhouse gas, welfare and anything else you want. Sooner the better. I want to be alive still when the Revolution starts. That will be fun.

neither candidate is for closed borders, yet Senator for Arizona is not for tuition for troops, if you needed any. Next up, no anarchy just a good use of your tax dollars. No more carloads full of Arab people arriving at the Bechtel gate in 2002, when you radio up and say,--all the names aren't on this here list, You_ get the response, "Just let 'em in" - ..you understand something we getting ready to go down.
So. We have to be prompted off of oil, in a market economy there is no reason to get off this resource until it is depleted, so government (people) can intervene and move the conditions. Clean energy - sounds kinda bland but its 'all good.
