The Ron Paul Prescription
He wants to get out of Iraq. Abolish the federal income tax. Abolish the Federal Reserve. Phase out Social Security. And make massive cuts to government spending. What do you think of Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul's ideas?
Many of Paul's ideas are not shared by others in Congress, so if elected, how would that work? Would he be able to get any of his proposals actually passed?
What I find fascinating about the Paul campaign is how grassroots driven it is--he is a rock star to his supporters. And though his Internet fame has not translated into a win in any state so far (he did come in second in the Nevada caucuses), one has to ask what it is about his campaign or personality that has attracted so many followers.
Comments
I agree with most things Ron Paul has proposed. Only thing that does irk me is he wanted us to be Passive in our Response to 9/11.
"He wants to get out of Iraq. Abolish the federal income tax. Abolish the Federal Reserve. Phase out Social Security. And make massive cuts to government spending."
Sounds like a Conservative to me. Thumbs up on those issues.

Another screwball. Candidates like this one, if elected will only, and I mean ONLY gridlock government into shutdown. Maybe a few good ideas, but ideas and hope don't count for anything until you try to launch them.
Two words come to mind here: Ross Perot.

Ron Paul has a pleasant enough personality, but it is his principles, his ideas, his anti-(undeclared)war stance, his knowledge of economics, and his plan to return the federal government to its Constitutional limits (Constitutionally enumerated powers, and especially his support of the 9th Amendment-- the power of the People -- and 10th Amendment -- States rights) which really attracts his grassroots supporters.
He is honest and principled, you can look at his voting record in Congress and see his principles at work. He has been married to his high school sweetheart for 50 years. He has never voted for an unconstitutional bill, never voted to raise taxes, never voted for an unbalanced budget, never voted to raise congressional pay, never taken a government paid junket, never voted to increase the power of the executive branch, voted against regulating the internet, voted against the PATRIOT Act and those other bills which extended the powers usurped by the PATRIOT Act, has been named the "Taxpayers' Best Friend" in Congress, and he returns a portion of his congressional office's budget funds every year to the US Treasury.
He is a statesman, not a politician, and the best thing of all -- he is not a member of the CFR. This is why the people support him with their time and their money.

Ron Paul makes more sense than all of the other candidates running. He is a man of his word and principle, just look at his voting record!
He is what America needs. We don't need another bought and paid for politician. Ron Paul has my attention.

Homer: No, Congressman Paul thinks the war in Afghanistan was fully justified. He just thinks it's absurd that we ceded too much authority to Afghanistan and Pakistan in the pursuit of Bin Laden. He also thinks American foreign policy indirectly led to the attacks of 9/11, which is a view shared by many foreign policy experts.

Thanks.

I am voting for Ron Paul. Its sad that so many americans are ignorant of history and unaware of whats going on around them. Its interesting that the mainstream media goes out of its way to be unfair to Ron Paul. What are the afraid of? the truth? Do the research. I guess a few others have been called nuts in history. Great men with vision usually.

Ron Paul is the last hope for America. The "New World Order" is progressing along nicely with the formation of the European Union, and the North American Union is not far behind. The crooks that pull the strings of the world are nearing their goal of a one-world government, and Ron Paul aims to stop them. At the center of this mess is the privately-owned Federal Reserve, of which Ron Paul also wants to abolish. We (the American people) now owe them 3 trillion dollars (the national debt), and are only paying the interest on it annually of 300 billion---and both of these numbers grow every year due to out of control Federal Government spending. The madness has got to stop. In a nutshell, this is why we need Ron Paul.

I will be voting for Paul, because of his stances on spending.
If we don't quit spending our grandchildren's future incomes away, for things today, America will collapse.
Who else is ready to take the challange of getting America's house in order.
This is America's number one security threat, borrowing and spending.

Go to youtube.com and review what Ron Paul is saying. Then google Federal Reserve and New World Order to see what the crooks have planned for not only this country, but for the world. Dr. Paul is the last hope for America---literally.

Ron Paul is truly hope for America. We need to bring our troops home and bring economic sanity back to our country. I also find it amusing here that if people feel threatened by someones ideas that they just start calling them names. We need solutions not name calling.

I wholeheartedly believe in most of Ron Paul's positions, but I honestly believe that even if he is elected, he will be unable to accomplish much. There are just to many other agendas at work in Washington, and not enough support in congress for Ron Paul's ideas to proliferate. Would I vote for him? Sure, because I also believe that accomplishing nothing is better than moving backwards with the liberal agenda.

Ron Paul is a true American running for President. He still believes what this country was founded on, the Constitution. This seems to have left the thoughts of the president and the other candidates running.
I believe Ron Paul can get us out of the econimic slump with his plans to cut spending, not borrowing more money to give tax-payers a bigger refund.
PLEASE VOTE RON PAUL!! He can save this country from where it is going!

Democracy - what happened to it? Our republic has strayed from the point of elections and has turned them into a media steered popularity contest. And then there was RON PAUL. I am 100% supportive of someone who has the backbone to say harsh realities instead of see-sawing like most candidates in this election. Let's take this country down to the bare bones, lets allow people to work for themselves and actually have some say as to where their income goes. Perhaps if more people were concerned with helping themselves and not depending on big government to support them we would be more competitive in the world economy. As it stands now - we're in trouble. The dollar is down, we're sinking money into an non winnable war, and electing the exact same mindset to do it all over again. Lets get back to Lincoln style governing and if it doesn't work folks - it's only 4 years. We managed to handle Bush for 8!

Ron Paul has started a fire of hope in this country that is so despartately needed. Given that the mainstream media continues to ignore him and that he has been written off by the so called experts makes me sick. There is not much time before the primary and I encourage everyone to do their homework and take an honest look at all the candidates running. If you want politics as usual vote for everyone else. RE: Ron Paul
Ron is running AGAINST.
He has proposed NO solutions to any of the problems, but extrapolating from his elimination of taxes, which is the logical conclusion of his proposals, would leave each of us responsible to defend ourselves from any attacks by the former Soviet Union's new counter to the F-22. I prefer that the U. S. Government perform its Constitutional duty as required by Article 1, Section 8, subsection 1, and defend the United States of America. And that the Congress provide our military with equipment that is younger than the operators. Many of our Air Force pilots are flying aircraft that are not only older than they are, but are actually older than their parents.
Ron Paul has attacked Social Security as if it is a single entity, but it is much more than that. A major cost of Social Security, retirement payments, could be relieved over time by passage of true retirement laws that would make personal retirement savings inviolate.
We are left with a candidate who wishes to destroy what exists, but has no solutions to propose.
I'll vote for someone else.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that I considered voting for out of all the rest of these talking heads. They are the same old, same old. We've heard what they are saying time and time again. They have no real clue what is happening to our crumbling empire! And change??? Yeah right. Mr. Paul is a man of his word. He speaks the truth, and is someone who has our best interest as a nation at heart. Its too bad that more people cant see through this pile of sheep. Paul has proven his worthiness to me!

I don't believe Ron Paul is lucid. Income tax is the most equitable way to provide any revenue source. Human consumption has its limits. Now if you say we don't need a revenue source that's another matter. Conservatives? Progressive?
What's that matter?

I have been following Ron Paul for several months now and, as an independent voter, I have to say that I agree with most, if not all, of his proposals. I watched the story this morning on Ron Paul. I have a question about his cutting Social Security and "social programs". He repeatedly said that "people who are dependent upon these programs could continue" to get them....how? With my donations to the programs? Who decides who are "dependent" and who are not. He wants to do away with all federal programs, yet who is going to pay for federal highways, federal parks, the TSA (not that they are that great, but it is better than nothing), the military, etc. He has lots of gab about doing away with the funds, but no information on how he will keep the country afloat. And I loved how he equated the USA with communism before it collapsed. If this country is so close to collapsing, why does he want to run it into that collapse?

Dr. Paul is the only candidate who addresses the most serious problems we face:
Unsustainable Empire which will cause a financial crisis.
Loss of liberty for Americans.
Looming financial commitments for Social Security & Medicaid.
His answers are to dismantle the empire & pay for the entitlements with the money, repeal the Patriot Act and other attacks on liberty, and restore the country to sound money (to prevent the problems from returning). I think he's right!

Ron Paul is like the old-time grandfather we never had. Our own grandfather retired early from his double-dip Defense, then civilian Defense Contractor career of only 40 years, and now he's living it up in Palm Springs with the other American-system gamers.
Face it, 55% of Americans now work in government or for civilian contractors to government. Government R US, they're a Neo Soviet,
plus barbarians are beyond our gates, over 25% owned by Arab royalists and Red Chinese central government martialists embedded at the highest levels of our own government, We The People literally held captive by our own "majority rules".
We should be glad we're not wearing Dubai dog collars, and for that Dr. Paul is a soothing sermon on Sunday, of a paradise lost we will never achieve on earth in our lives, whether you vote for more red government, or more blue government, we lose.
Paul needs to be heard until the transition in January, Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton-Bush, Red Army, Blue Army, it's the same Supreme Soviet, comrade.
Fed Government done broke US, and you don't need to be a weatherman to know it.

I am 53 years old, with 2 college degrees; a very good profession and position in life. I have reached the conclusion after careful deliberation that the future of this country is in grave peril. Ron Paul's philosophy (strict adherence to the constitution) which is what our Founding Fathers crafted to insure that all Americans (not just the wealthy or powerful) can choose to live free and independent lives is what will ultimately restore this society to the greatness that has been it's historical legacy. We have lost sight of this fundamental ideal. Ron Pauls specific ideas regarding reducing the military, reducing the size of government, adhering to the Constitution are our last best hope. Ron Paul is right when he says ALL EMPIRES eventually succumb because they overextend their control. We have surely done this. The reasons for our troops to be oversees is no longer relavant. Great Britain, France, even the Soviet Union all faced this reality and realed in their empire to save their country. We must do the same. We must reform our own nation and quit trying to reform other nations. That is why I support Ron Paul and i urge everyone to think this through and support Ron Paul because people the writing is on the wall. We cannot sustain this empire much longer without serious repercussions. The tremendous money we will save can be used here at home where it is badly needed. We can reduce the size of government and give back to the people their income so that they can choose to live their lives the way they want. That is Liberty. That is what our Founding Fathers envisioned. We owe it to our children and their future to do this for them.

I have been following Ron Paul since shortly after 9-11 when I heard him speak on CSPAN. He is truly a statesman and most people that dismiss him are not informed on his policies and what these policies will do. I would suggest those that dismiss him as a nut-wacko dig a little deeper into his policies and educate themselves. He is a threat to the the policy makers that have gotten us into the the troubles that we now face. I have followed this election with great interest and have looked into the policies of the other candidates which are mostly vague in comparison and checked out the statements of them all. Most of the candidates have flip flopped on their positions which tells me they have no clue what to do. I agree that his ideas will not see the light of day unless we look at the candidates that we send to the House and Senate that will support his plans. He offers no quick fix but he does offer a fix that is realistic if we elect people to office locally that will support his ideas. I suggest that everyone look not only at the candidates for president and their policies but the candidates for the house and senate that represent us and where they stand on these same issues. Please do yourself and your family a favor and look more in-depth into his ideas and how they will effect your children and grand-children's future. The world has changed and our foreign policies need to change with the times. I am a registered republican that has voted democrat mostly in the past, because the republicans did not offer anyone I could support. I will vote Ron Paul if I have to write his name on the ballot. That is how strongly I feel about this.

ABOUT TIME!
I'm a 43 year old guy who has long been dissatisfied with some of our governmental laws & policies. It is obvious that a some of them are misguided and antiquated, and have not been seriously revisited in 80+ years. The economical cost as well our credence as a nation have been seriously compromised. We have a $9,000,000,000+ debt! I've always wondered the mechanics of a nation going bankrupt, would rather not have a crash course.

What I like about Ron Paul's message is how simple it is. No smoke and mirrors, just support, defend, and OBEY the US Constitution. It is remarkable what a fundamental change that would be! Right off the bat, we would no longer pay interest to the folks printing our money at the privately owned Federal Reserve and we would stop paying income taxes.
Tariffs supported our defense and infrastructure needs nicely up until 1913.
The best way to help the poor is by lifting us/them up with a strong economy based on sound money. (Oh, and the President would actually have to declare war on a country before he/she invaded it.)
It’s ironic that some people refer to Ron Paul as a radical or, to quote one post, “another screwball” when he is the most paleo conservative of the bunch. Look at his voting record. In ten years of service to the US Congress, he has never voted to contravene the Constitution. The screwballs are the ones who refer to our Constitution as “just a piece of paper.” Google that phrase and see what you come up with; it might surprise you.

Interesting how the anti-Paul posts are simply a short ad hominem attack containg zero substance, for example, Bill's:
"I am surprised that you even gave this nut case air time!!!"
Or ChuckL claimed Ron Paul "had no answers". Obviously he has never looked into the issue at all.
For one example see Ron Paul's Economic Revitalization Plan at ronpaul2008.com/prosperity for clearly thought out solutions.

Social Security concerns seem to be a big issue for us. Every time we print more money we devalue the dollar. Those on Social Security do not receive the increases to offset the devalued dollar. So every time the government prints money those on limited incomes suffer the most. Ron Paul wants to stop this and make sure that the seniors don't lose when the value of the dollar decreases. This is simple economics and you don't need to be college educated to figure this out. In allowing those that are just entering the labor market to opt out is worth merit. I'm 50 and have paid into Social Security since I was 12. I knew a long time ago when we raided the Social Security Trust funds and didn't pay it back that I may never see a dime. Cutting the bleeding of our economy by reducing our empire is the only way we will ever get a chance to make Social Security solvent again. I don't expect people to understand how this works on a 5 minute sound bite. Go to RonPaul2008.com and learn more. His in-depth economic plan, that he just released, is there and you will see the brilliance of his plan.

No, I don't drink and drive. I drink at home and have for a long time. I think that if a person is seen weaving on the road that gives the police a right to check them but to do so without just cause is a violation of my rights. If they want to do something about drunk drivers make the penalties harsher. Make the judges hold to that law and don't let someone off just cause they have money or influence.

To Mr. Art Johnson:
I disagree with you. Principles are what you are talking about: Having no income tax is disrepectful in my opinion. The biggest conspiracy would be not voting for person(s) who actually have an actuall track record.
911, your planes, your Rose Law firm; in all of it, I am certain Kennedy was not a conspiracy. Clearly, I am standing with the Progressives & a honest revenue source, to wage democracy.

You can so no, but that the fact, Bush is going "back" to Dallas. That's terrible in my book. Thanks.

Paul did not want us to be passive. He voted to pursue Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan, and even submitted a Letter of Marque & Reprisal (google it!) directed at bin Laden. He did vote against invading Iraq bc. Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. Please do some research for yourself before you vote!!

Ron Paul does not want to abolish social securtiy, he wants to phase it out for the young people that haven't paid their whole lives.
Its' important to remember that there is NO MONEY in the S.S. fund. it has all been spent. So it will be bankrupt soon and no one will get any money.
Ron Paul has the only plan for long term success, not short term "while im in office" stimulus.
Remember this people, if government is against him...doesn't that mean he is against government?

I finally took my responsibility to vote seriously this year at the age of 48. I am so sorry I was led like a bull with a ring in its nose in past elections, listening to the parrot media. They listen to each other and repeat what they hear, proving to as ill informed as those who follow brainlessly.
Not this year. I have spent a lot of time looking at voting records, philosophy, policy and morality of each candidate.
Ron Paul is the man who will be getting my informed vote.
Those who keep saying that Ron Paul offers no solutions, must not be listening. He wants to protect America, not leave us vulnerable, which led to 9-11. He wants to concentrate our military efforts to protecting America, not "nation building" around the world. He wants to give people back the freedom intended by the founding Fathers and return power back to the states where the people have more say and can be involved.
He offers solutions but it is not what people are use to; government handouts.
Do your research and ignore the biased media. You will pleasantly surprised to find that Ron Paul is the hope for America!

When people say that Ron Paul is NUTTY, what they really mean is that THE CONSTITUTION & BILL OF RIGHTS is NUTTY. And that means they think that Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were NUTTY.
Posted by: Vote For The Constitution | January 27, 2008 5:07 PM
When reading the following quote it's understandable why another person said that thing about people not knowing their history are doomed to repeat it:
If the American people ever allow private banks to control their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all their prosperity until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.
-- Thomas Jefferson
Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate that understands this is why things are happening as they are with the economy right now! That's why he has my vote; the rest are just puppets of the corporations and the military industrial complex Eisenhower warned us about.

If you are against Ron Paul, ask yourself why congress is passing legislation to pardon the Bush administration from war crimes.
Civil Liberties are under attack by our own government. As you sit in your home, the Bush administration is accelerating is declarations of war against the world. But first, they must make FISA a permenant, and they'll probably attach that to the stimulus package.
Would you give up your liberties for a $800 stimulus check?
Posted by: Shannon | January 27, 2008 5:17 PM
What would happen to the money we've already paid to social security? that money is already gone, do you think by the time you retire you would see any of it? its time to stop the bleeding before we run out of blood, we need to reestablish the gold backed dollar, then if gold goes up so does the dollar, makes sense to me, get out of other countries? were not doing anything over there any more anyway except causing trouble, remember the sailors in japan raping young girls, you ever walk down the street in Japan? I love Japan but the crowd parted when they saw sailors coming though, I mean they crossed the street, Germany? why do we need troops there? Korea? c'mon get real were wasting money all over the place and our reputation isn't getting better, everyone EVERYONE who likes freedom should be interested in Ron Paul, 20 years in congress, ten terms, he's just like our founding fathers, and your Grandpa rolled into one.

Ron Paul has some good ideas - tax cuts - less government - but before I would vote for him I would want to know specifically how he plans to handle the problems that WILL occur with the massive changes he proposes.
These changes are fine for people who can afford rent, transportation, health care, and the necessities of life, but there are millions of people struggling in this country just to put food on the table. Also what about local taxes? If the feds don't pay the local people will. We already have a president who did not plan for the problems his decisions caused, and we will be living with them for many years to come. Ron Paul, show us your plan, and don't lie to us.

Catherin's comments earlier is very convincing. Her item is intriguing and her observation seemed realistic. It is clearly a much better choice to vote for Ron Paul. But, Ron Paul will not get nominated, and since no other candidate seemed to care with the "bottom line" present state of the nation in this lifetime, we are all DOOMED!

Some of the comments I've read here seem to think that Ron Paul hasn't explained his foreign policy or economic plans well enough to make sense of them.
Well, sound-bites and short articles are all our MSM sources can offer, but if you want more depth, here's where to find it:
For those who care to know more, check out Amazon for the reviews on one of his most recent books, "A Foreign Policy of Freedom: Peace, Commerce, and Honest Friendship".
A prolific author, he just released his latest work, "Pillars of Prosperity: Free Markets, Honest Money, Private Property" (only available at www.mises.org/store)
Like him or not, no one can say that Ron Paul hasn't clearly explained exactly where he stands, and why he believes reasonable people should agree with him.
Posted by: Ed Burch | January 27, 2008 6:59 PM
Burch: Its not about liking him, or not. Like Newt, prolific authors come around. Concern should be raised with the author does't understand fair tax, when there is a want to abolish features that have made our system great and promoted a civilization. Ike warned of industrial revolution debacles because Nixon and Rumsfeld and the McCains were in his party. We all want hope. Me I want Gates and Bush (from Dallas) to pay their fair share as I work.

In response to "Only thing that does irk me is he wanted us to be Passive in our Response to 9/11," I would cordially remind everyone that he supported the invasion of Afghanistan, but once we went to Iraq and started "nation building" he proposed. And as he states, we're not even looking for the 9/11 culprits anymore, our eyes have drifted. He values military might and wants us to be secure, so his arguments against war are ones of motive and "legality." Glad to see so many people supporting the Good Doctor. :)

You do not have to agree with everything he says 100%, however, America's only hope truly lies in Dr. Paul's positions on some of the most important issues like the economy, our foreign policy, immigration, national security, our Constitution/ Bill of Rights, Habeas Corpus, the NAU, and even biometrics- (Romney is for implanting everyone with and RFID Chip).
What means more to you?
What are you willing to compromise on in order to prevent the government or others from crossing 'that line' in your life? Do you even have a line to be crossed? When will you draw that line?
Posted by: TFS | January 27, 2008 8:41 PM

Lower or no income tax.
A President who would balance a much lower budget as proven by how he returns a portion of his congressional budget every year.
A President who believes in the Constitution and the limited power of government.
I don't have to worry about my boys being drafted and dying in a desert in some middle east country who poses no threat to our national security.
Yeah - Dr. Paul is my choice

If we care about justice, domestic tranquility, a common defense, our general welfare, and liberty
more than we do about our political affiliations, then I would like to draw your attention to an individual that the major media affiliations are trying their hardest to ignore, joke about elect ability, or just play down. I first saw this individual during the first debates last year and immediately thought he will never be elected. Why did I think this? Was it because he didn’t talk like the other politicians and tell me what I wanted to hear? What stood out about him was he told it like it was and made sense. This from a politician! Is this guy for real? Thanks to the internet, I Googled him and wow, the info! I went to his congressional record and another wow! This gentleman has never voted to raise taxes or an unbalanced budget or congressional pay, has never taken a government-paid junket, has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch, and voted against the Iraq War. On top of that, he has been reported to return his unspent budgets at the end of every year. He is running in one of the major parties because he feels there is no allowances made for a third party candidate. This man is Dr. Ron Paul. Before closing your mind to him because of the party he is running in, please just check him out for yourself at www.ronpaul2008.com.

Ron Paul has a lot of original ideas that I respect. I think these new ideas would really help this country to get on it's feet again. I agree about shutting out illegals, bringing our troops home and creating an effective foreign policy. He's right. Our country has spread itself too thin. If we keep going like this, our country is going to collapse. Ron Paul for President in 2008!

All the propositions he's made are very well thought out. He's certainly not just pandering to whatever group will listen just to get their votes.
People think he won't be able to change washington because of congress.
These same people are forgetting that WE are congress, those wigs in there represent US. If we want change it's up to us, not congress or the president. But the people.
Ron Paul wants to give the people their government back.
That's why I'm voting for him.

Ron Paul is the only candidate who recognizes that our main problem is that we've ignored the rule of law, especially the Constitution. Gov't is now arbitrary, inefficient, and becoming more tyrannical.
Posted by: Mark | January 27, 2008 9:00 PM
Think about it, your dollar is with 5 cents. Why do you think prices go up? You think inflation is natural? Inflation is a tax, it is the transfer of wealth from poor and middle class to the rich and wall street. If you print money, billions and trillions of it, your going to lose buying power. Its called supply and demand, the more of something you have, the cheaper or less valuable it is. My god people, Ron is the only candidate who has a clue about ecomonics.
This country will never be destroyed by an external threat, but rather by a domestic threat. Those in power, the corrupt. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
If you feel your vote will be wasted by voting for someone who you think doesn't have a chance to win, you are insane. Vote on issues not electability, you fools!

Thanks to everyone for their comments, and a special thanks to Robert Mak and King5 for having the courage to make and air this piece on Ron Paul. His campaign has been so blatantly marginalized by the mainstream media that it's not surprising so many writing here are unfamiliar with his positions. It is becoming increasingly obvious that certain vested interests are very afraid of Ron Paul's consistent message of Freedom and Prosperity. But Americans ARE waking up. And while it may not happen this year, the continuation of special-interest controlled big government is no long a sure thing, Win or lose, a vote for Ron Paul is a powerful shot across the bow of tyranny, rather than another "lesser of two evils" cop out. Greater or lesser, evil is still evil.

HOMER: I'm glad you support Dr. Paul on most issues, but you are inaccurate by saying Ron Paul did not want to go after Bin Laden and the terrorists after 9/11. In fact, Dr. Paul introduced legislation giving the President approval to go after Al-Queda with the Marque & Reprisal Act - http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/sept_11/hr3076_ih.htm
He also voted for the Authorization to attack Afghanistan in order to capture/kill Bin Laden and the other terrorists. What Dr. Paul does NOT believe in is "Nation Building" and rebuilding the other countries as our Country definitely has its problems of our own with its $9 Trillion debt and over $60 Trillion in future obligations. He is without a doubt the strongest candidate remaining on securing our borders and eliminating illegal immigration, thus increasing our security and national defense.

Homer-
You're wrong. Ron Paul wasn't passive on the 9/11. He voted to go get Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan, but he's sad that instead of that we started national building in Afghanistan. So he VOTED To GET OSAMA.
If that is your only disagreement then rejoice Ron Paul is the perfect choice!

Ron Paul is a kook. His idea of bring our troops home? Thats kooky, we need more war, increasing deaths of both our military and Iraqi civilians alike. Iran is next, then Syria, then Chavez...then the world! His idea of personal freedom and liberty? That's loony! We need complete tyranny in the USA. His thoughts on limited government? Absolutely crazy. As a card carrying conservative I think we need a giant socialistic system that handles everything for us. On second thought, maybe Ron Paul is the ONLY Republican???...

"If the feds don't pay the local people will."

Even if I don't agree with his proposals 100%, I know that he will do what he says he will do. He is genuine, consistent, intelligent, well-spoken, and incredibly well-informed, making him, in my humble opinion, the only presidential candidate worthy of the title.

Who doesn't want a 20-30% raise? How much of a boost would that do for the economy? What would you buy? What would you invest in? The Federal Income Tax is unconstitutional, why not start a state income tax at 10%? We would not have to rely on the Fed not doing their jobs, as they already do so well. Ron Paul seems like the only one who speaks truth.... Our dollar in on it's way down. Oil doesn't cost more, the dollar just can't buy as much.

I am planning to vote for Ron Paul at the Feb. 9th caucus, the Feb. 19th primary, and next fall at the Nov. election for President of the United States!!! It really does not matter what your opinion may be or how you feel about bringing our troops home, because the fact that does matter is that our country is going bankrupt and Ron Paul is the only candidate who recognizes this as fact, and has a plan to dig us out of this dung heap that we have allowed ourselves to get into. Without Ron Paul in office your opinions and feelings are going to take a backseat to the daily chore of standing in soup lines just to get a little nourishment for your family. I suggest that each and every family sit down and discuss possible options of where they may live after they lose their jobs and homes to the economic crash. Seriously, this is the direction we are headed and the more familiar you become with what looms ahead and what your real options are, the less frightening and catastrophic the coming crash will be. We have started these discussions with our children, family, and friends, and it is amazing how creative your own children can be!! Call me a doomsdayer if you want, but it would be better if you picked up a book on simple economics at your local bookstore and educated yourself. GO RON PAUL!!!!!

Indeed, like the others, I am grateful. Though I won't be old enough to vote in the primary, i willl be old enough to vote in the final elections and I plan to. Ron paul makes the most sense out of all the canidates thus far.
Granted, he has some very radical plans for out nation, our nation needs change if we ever hope to have a surplus again. A frugal president would be the best to correct or at least attempt to counter the countless occasions Bush's answer was to just throw money at the problem and pray it would fix itself.

People constantly complain that we are always forced to vote for the lesser of two evils. For once we have the option of voting for someone who is genuine, intelligent, and its great that he's not a "politician". He's never voted to raise our taxes, he doesn't participate in the lucrative pension plan and he even gives BACK part of his budget every year. He will bring out troops home "immediately" (within months). No one else has made that pledge.
People of Washington state, please learn more about Dr. Paul at www.ronpaul2008.com and you will realize what all of his supporters have come to realize -- that he really is the only hope for America.
Don't let this opportunity pass - vote in your caucus (2/9) and primary (2/19) and join a Ron Paul meetup group!

I find it very disturbing that the democratic process has been warped and twisted by the mainstream media. It's a far cry from what I thought America and it's ideals stood for. We are being led to choose between candidates that stand to take away our rights on both the Democrat and Republican sides. Ron Paul is the last chance for America to correct its empiricist globalization process in my opinion. As mainstream media spoon feeds the public a pudding mix of 'truths' and who the right candidate is for this country, we as people begin to lose our choice, our freedoms, and our pursuits for life, liberty, and happiness. My vote is for Ron Paul, the only person in D.C. who represents this nation for its values upon the constitution.
Posted by: Daunish | January 28, 2008 12:11 AM
President Ron Paul is the closest leader we have to President Reagan today. Who else wants to cut the size of the FEDERAL Government down by 75%? Who else wants to lower taxes by getting rid of the IRS and cut spending by getting rid of the department of energy and the department of education? What is so hard to figure out? If we weren't spending trillions in Iraq we wouldn't be in economic trouble at home. The military loves Ron Paul. They are his biggest supporters. They WANT to come home. Ron Paul will help us achieve energy independence. This is the real key to ending the war on terror. Without our dollars they won't be able to fund their terror, nor will they have a reason to.

I find it funny that you Ron Paul bashers don't have a whole lot to say. Try checking the facts, and turn off the FOX channel, for god's sake. Perhaps formulate your own opinion? I think we have strayed from the founding principles that this country was built on. Remember that movie, Team America? World Police? It's sad, but I think we look more and more like a bunch of puppets.

Posted by: Rokdog13 | January 28, 2008 1:20 AM
I would also like to address the claim that Ron Paul is only "against" things and has no proposals to solve our problems. This is utterly untrue. In fact, it makes no sense.
Whenever Ron Paul says he is against something, he is also FOR something. He is against the war. He is for peace. He is against the Federal Reserve. He is FOR a sound currency that does not lose value over time. He is against the income tax. He is FOR people keeping what they earn, which rightfully belongs to them. (This can be accomplished by cutting the size of the federal budget to levels of just ten years ago. Was government too small then?!) He is against entitlement programs, so he is FOR phasing them out and letting people invest their money themselves. He is against the government spying on its own citizens. He is FOR privacy. And so on.
Ron Paul has detailed programs for the complex issues we face. Ron Paul has written books and essays and made many speeches (many of which can be viewed on YouTube.) People who accuse Ron Paul of having no answers have simply not made any effort to seek out his answers, because they ARE there and are easy to find. This makes the complaints of Ron Paul's detractors seem a bit disingenuous.
The bottom line is that Ron Paul believes in the individual. He believes in freedom. He believes in YOU.
When did this nation lose its faith in freedom? That is what made this nation great, not government.
The beauty of our government is that it was created to be severely limited in size and scope. Unfortunately, that has changed. Government now grows faster and faster. There seems to be no limit on what can be regulated and taxed. The government spies on its own citizens. Habeas corpus has been virtually obliterated. A national ID card is in the works. The trend is not a good one.
Ron Paul knows that our prosperity has always come from the private sector. People who criticize Ron Paul for being against government simply do not understand that this means that he is FOR individuals living their own lives in freedom.
The only just reason to bring a government into existence is to protect the liberty of the people. When a government goes beyond that, it necessarily becomes tyrannical. It is only a question of HOW tyrannical we let it get. Government can only give away what it first takes away. It does not and cannot create prosperity. It does not and cannot create rights that do not already exist.
Government is force. We do not need government to encourage people to act voluntarily, as most of us do on a daily basis. We only resort to government when we want to FORCE people to do something. This always creates negative, unintended consequences. (Which, of course, government is then called on to "fix.") Every government mandate or prohibition is ultimately backed by a gun. How is more of THAT a good thing?
The less coercion there is in a society, the healthier and happier that society must necessarily be. Government IS coercion. Those who advocate being FOR government programs are advocating being FOR programs backed by coercive force and the attendant costs, penalties and unintended consequences.
When two individuals participate in a transaction or an activity, they perceive that they are both benefitting or else they would not do it. When government forces individuals to do something, this is not the case.
Ron Paul is against coercion. He is FOR liberty.
Ron Paul has faith in YOU. Why would you vote for a candidate who does not trust you to run your own life?!

I don't remember it being brought up in the interview, but Ron Paul opposes the expensive boondoggle known as the war on drugs.
If the other candidates are serious about making our borders safer and fighting terrorism, they could strike a blow for both of these by ending the insane war on drugs.
The black market created by the war on drugs enables people with ties to terrorists to make a lot of money. The most obvious instance of this is the huge supply of opium coming out of Afghanistan. (More now than before we invaded.)
The war on drugs makes our borders less safe due to drug smugglers who would have no reason to be there if drugs were legalized. It also makes our cities less safe, due to violent crime and property crime associated with the illegal drug trade. This would change just as it did when prohibition of alcohol ended.
Lastly, the war on drugs is a war on civil liberties, which affects us all but disproportionately affects minority communities.
Ron Paul is a medical doctor. He understands that drug usage is a health issue not a criminal justice issue. He also favors the right of sick people to use medicinal marijuana. No other candidate is even willing to discuss ending insane the war on drugs.

Thank you for reporting on Ron Paul. The way you chopped the one scene makes it look like he wants to cut seniors from their social security. That is not true. He wants to allow young people the ability to get out of the system of income tax and ss - still caring for our old and those in the system.

Ron Paul is the only candidate in my book. I will vote for him in any party. His proposals for revitalizing the American economy will help everyone. I support Ron Paul because he's rational!

Hey guys I'm from Puerto Rico. Yes we're part of the USA we're a colony and everything you do it's what we do. Sadly we in congress have voice but no vote.
I have to say that Ron Paul it's an inspiration and he talks with the truth. I can't believe people still don't see what the government is doing. Wow the IRS steals our money ad yeap here in Puerto Rico we have to pay!!!
Ron Paul right now is the best man out there, i also like Kucinich but he's out. watching Ron it's all about using your head, think guys use the best thing that could be created your brain.
How the hell do you guys want to stay in Iraq this will be the next Vietnam are you ready to get drafted? To fight for the government and not for the constitution. Come on and don't say Ron Paul has no chance, hey he does we don't know the future, we are the future and we decide what goes on. It's time to educate people , start spreading the message and start to live with freedom.
Thank you guys for letting me express myself and i hope the best for our nation and world.

Thanks for showing Dr Paul. He is the only honest candidate for the upcomming election. I support him 100%. How anyone could refer to a 10 term congressman a screwball is beyond me. Although I suppose in this day and age fighting for liberty and following the constitution is
A SCREWY IDEA!!!
Wake up America

Well I just voted for him yesturday, So i guess that kinda tells you of what I think about all the democratic and republican candidates Ron Paul is running against with big government from welfare to Warfare states they both are pushing. It also shows How great Ron Paul's 4part economic plan looks to me. I wish he would promote it more at these debates. As well as his stance on going after the folks who attacked us like Bin LADEN and Alqueda in Afganastan NOT countries like Iraq and Iran. What also really stands out to me as a College Student is his views on social security not allowing us to be forced into it. So us young folks can have a chance at planning our own future which i believe I can do better than politicians who just take all the funds and leave an IOU in the Medicare and Social security funds over both President Bush and Clinton years.

Lately, I've been hearing so much about this man, and he certainly is a breath of fresh air, and filled with common sense...he may even get me out to vote in the primaries!
Thanks again!

Ron Paul is the last person that should become president. If you abolish the Federal income tax more Americans will be with out any income and heath coverage; many of them low income and the elderly. If you abolish the federal reserve say goodbye the FDIC. The federal is where the money would come from in the case of a bank going under.
As to the Iraq siltation although I do think we should have never gown into Iraq we did elect an incomptent precedent twice. If we back out of Iraq It will be another South Korea; We created this mess we should also be responsible for cleaning it up.

They don't sound like screwball ideas to me. It seems fairly simple, quit spending a TRILLION $'s and thousands of U.S. lives a year. Use that trillion to create the tightest military DEFENSE our country has ever known and take care of our people here at home. Think about what China's doing right now. They have no troops anywhere and they have 1.5 billion people, half of them drafted in the army at 18 yrs old. Will we be able to defend ourselves against an army like that when we're watered down around the world? Please...
Posted by: Jay | January 28, 2008 9:42 AM
It seems like almost all the people on here are already Ron Paul supporters, or Ron Paul haters. For the haters, go endorse someone and support their ideas if you believe in them... If you don't, then how about actually checking out Ron Paul. For the supporters, get out on the streets and do the job that the media isn't. People want to hear the real story.
For everyone else, this was a very weak and confusing introduction to Ron Paul.
His ideas are really sound, he is very smart and very experienced. His economic ideas are applauded by America's leading economic experts, and his ideas on tax reform are based on facts.
He has never flinched on doing what is right no matter how much pressure he has recieved.
The comments about him being crazy or unsound are byproducts of those very pressures. His competitors can't argue with his facts so they say empty statements like that - kind of like in grade school. And the weak minded pick that up and echo it.
Please check him out for yourself. Youtube has a lot of easily accessible information, and the best is probably ronpaul2008.com.
Good luck.

Do you really think the FDIC is worth anything? Read the fine print, something like, "in faith of the U.S. government... Not to mention, the Federal Reserve is not even a Federal institution, so they have no legal liability for any losses of any banks.
you send your family over to Iraq then and be responsible for cleaning it up.
Posted by: Jay | January 28, 2008 9:46 AM
I am voting for Ron Paul.
As Ron Paul stated on Meet the Press, "If you got rid of the income tax today you'd have about as much revenue as we had 10 years ago." So with the positions he advocates on smaller government, there would be a surplus of revenue. And as Ronald Reagan stated, "No nation in history has ever survived a tax burden that reached a third of its national income."
A vote for anyone other than Ron Paul is a vote for the downfall of our country.
Posted by: Jesse | January 28, 2008 9:46 AM
YES!! YES!! Ron Paul all the way. There is no other candidate. I will write him in if I have to, a vote for any of the rest is a vote for all the rest...no difference!
Posted by: Djulz | January 28, 2008 9:58 AM
With regards to how Dr Paul can get his policies implemented, once he is in office, I offer three comments:
(1) By the time we get him elected on Nov 4, 70-80 Million Americans will have voted for him. That is a clear mandate to implement his platform. Congress would be foolhardy to try to resist.
(2) His grassroots supporters are actively working to bring a growing slate of "Ron Paul Republicans" to Congress. By 2010, we will have a huge slate of friendly Congressmen in office supporting him.
(3) Dems love his foreign policy, hate his domestic policies. Neo-con Repubs hate his foreign policy, but love his domestic policies. Even with a split Congress, he will be able to get things done. As Commander-in-chief, he can pull ALL the troops home. Congress would be forced to close the empty bases, thus saving a TRILLION dollars a year, which can go into the domestic economy. He can also instruct the DoJ not to enforce certain federal crimes, such as the war on drugs. Non-violent drug-related offenders can be released, saving billions, too.
With Dems running Congress, he can also overturn offensive Acts like Patriot Act, and Military Commissions Act. Etc. Etc. There's lots he can do until we get him enough numbers in the Congress to implement his entire platform.
We need to elect this man as President. We only have one shot at this - there is a financial tsunami coming our way, and Dr Paul is the go-to man on economic and monetary policy issues. Only he among all candidates knows how to save us.

Ron Raul has more truth in one of his little fingers than Clinton, McCain, Obama and Romney have in their whole bodies. He has the guts to call the USA an empire, the federal government a bankrupt and the War on Drugs an assault on the Constitution. Thank you Mr. Mak and KING-5 for giving me the chance to hear from Dr. Paul directly; I hope you will interview him again sometime soon.

This country, and the plan is for the world too, will go down the drain along with life, liberty, and happiness (to name a few) if the UnConstitutional Fed. Reserve remains that people in this country were duped into.
One example: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3051024550497129264
People since birth have been educated primarily by the mainstream media to believe that violence is enjoyable, good vs. evil. As long as people view thier world as good/bad, right/wrong, holy/unholy, reward/punishment instead of viewing the world in terms of are human universal needs and values being met or unmet, then there will always be hell on earth. The Constitution was an attempt to value all life; Support Ron, who stands for the Constitution, not all these man made statutory laws that will eventually make 'criminals' out of all of us.

Actually, the money that he will save overseas will be spent on those who paid for the social security for the most of their lives or those who are already dependent on it. He only wants to get the young people out and let them save for themselves, so they wouldn't be in the same mess that their parents will end up in.
Study his platform on his website, it's hard to understand what he is doing from a 5 min. interview.
Go Ron Paul!

Jees, Well lets see. I have been for a year now spending about 4 hours a day on the internet. Learning, listening to what people have to say. Anybody who has spent any real amount of time on the internet doing some research and not sitting at home with their head in the TV, would know that Ron Paul has already won. His message is out. The seed has been planted and it will grow long after the elections have come and gone. This whole thing has reminded me of the typical public school growing up, where the men and woman that did there homework and were smart were uncool. It was the punk at the back of the classroom that would shoot spitballs in your hair all day that was our hero. Welcome to Modern day America. Do yourself a favor. Wake the hell up and do your homework.

Denial of the truth won't save our country. Are we so helpless we need government to change our diapers? Ron Paul is really about reducing government and it's lobby influences.
Posted by: Micah Ditton | January 28, 2008 12:20 PM
All the wars of the Twentieth Century have been financed, almost exclusively, through a system of debt and taxes, via the Federal Income Tax and the Federal Reserve Bank. Neither of which are constitutional, yet they finance the U.S. government's welfare and warfare (a repetition?). That is central planning: a trait of—dare I say it?—a socialist society.
Before the Federal Reserve existed it was free for citizens to turn their gold and silver into money; this increased the money supply as a wealth to the people. Today, dollars are created out of thin air and loaned into circulation as debt against future production, not exchanged into circulation as production performed. Money has been switched from an evidence of wealth to an evidence of debt. The whole principle and function of money has been switched!
All you closet liberals hiding in the GOP supporting this type of government need to come out and fess up.

Robert Mak--Great interview. thanks.
Some on this board accuse RP of being a pacifist. He Is NOT! Go to war ONLY if it is a declared war by Congress! This current Iraq situation was proposed in 1998--CLINTON Administration and carried out by the NEOCONS currently in power. Yes Congress went along with the UN proposal to go to Iraq. They did not declare war. this man is the real deal.

While Mr. Paul says some sensible things and even has a "fresh" approach to some issues, I'm very surprised that no one is talking about his background. The New Republic and Reason magazine have uncovered newsletters written under Ron Paul’s name in the 1980s and 90s that are racist, homophobic, and argue that the South was right in the Civil War.
Of course the Paul campaign has disavowed these newsletters and Paul himself has as well. The fact remains they were done in his name for over ten years, and generated money for him that he used to get back into politics. So either he is racist, homophobe who supports the idea of slavery and succession, or so disengaged he allowed his name to be used for something that is the antithesis of what this nation stands for. Either way he deserves no consideration for any political office, let alone that of leader of the free world.

It's about time we had a president that wanted to assume LESS power in order to help Americans. Every other candidate, Republican or Democrat, wants us to forget the constitutional restrictions on the federal government, and want to solve our problems by becoming more powerful than the last guy.
When was the last time our government said they would make themselves smaller, and actually did it? Electing Ron Paul would be a powerful message to the power hungry politicians that Americans want their constitutional liberties back.

Ron Paul makes a lot sense. Our Economy needs his leadership, we've been spending and borrowing from China and printing money at the Federal Reserve (which has watered down our dollar, which we now see losing value) for years and years. Ron Paul is only candidate who seems to ask whats the root of problems and what will fix them. He not looking for quick, fake fix we are suffering the effects of that policy in weak economy now.
Also, why are we in Iraq. Sadly I supported the idea to go in there just trusting my government but, it clear to me now it had nothing to do with 911. Lets bring the troops home, that will make us safer we suffer from messing around in middle east, and we suffer from spending money on all these bases overseas.
Thanks Ron Paul for opening my eyes to whats going on. I going to vote for Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is the ONLY real conservative running, and the ONLY person running that actually acts like a Republican. It is a shame that he gets so little media respect or attention when he's beating the pants off of Giuliani and is breaking fund raising records. He's got my vote, cured my political apathy, gave me hope, and continues to do so. People that call him a screwball know -nothing- about the Constitution, Economics, or the world we are living in. He's brave, strong, and incredibly intelligent.

It seems that many of those opposed to Ron Paul seem to make one line disparaging (and unintelligent) remarks about him, and then don't offer an alternative. It is this ignorance that got us our current administration.
Do you homework, look at the issues and study the advisors backing Obama and Hilary. Hilary had her chance in the whitehouse and she was bought by HMO's. Obama's top advisor is Zbigniew Brzezinski, do your homework on that one.

John Abplanalp:
The Paulites dislike the coverage of these newsletters because they hurt their candidate true, but I think many of them are more frustrated by the fact that there are scandals that are far more dangerous and possibly treasonous involving other candidates that get no air time. It just all goes along with the mentality that it's currently cool to pick on Paul, so why waist time going after a beloved "Main stream" candidate. It is paradoxical to me (one that has heard him speak and understands his views) that Ron Paul would endorse these collectivist views in any way shape or form. One man in the field of presidential candidates wants you to be treated as an individual, not a member of a special interest group.
This man is Ron Paul!

In 1802, then-President Thomas Jefferson wrote the following in a letter to Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin:
"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their money, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

VOTE FOR DR RON PAUL
Posted by: Eric | January 28, 2008 2:17 PM
Ron Paul is the man!
And for those that have said he wants to get rid of the military you are horribly mistaken. His whole platform runs on the basis of defending and protecting our country Not starting wars for no reason.
Remember IRAQ had nothing to do with 9/11
Ron Paul issued letters for marque and reprisal which for those that do not know that means he wanted to use the military to go in quickly TAKE OUT OSAMA BIN LADEN and get out
Now lets ask why are our border patrolmen in IRAQ training them how to defend their borders; I think our border needs tending to.
Posted by: Chris Deal | January 28, 2008 2:21 PM
I would like you to know that Ron Paul is a man with consistent principled integrity and a 20+ year voting record to back it up.
He is a man that takes his Constitutional oath of office seriously, and votes in adherence to the scheduled parameters the Constitution allows. He isn't rigid in his views to the point where he won't compromise however. He's been quoted as saying "amending the Constitution is constitutional"
What Ron Paul brings to the table that no other candidate currently running can is an uncompromised commitment to the preservation of personal rights and liberty, a level of honesty that is untouchable to the current field of candidates and a candidacy that isn't fueled by the desire of vast power.
You will find that voters for Ron Paul are motivated by being informed, knowing the issues, and seeing how Ron Paul has been conducting himself in congress for the last 20 years.
You will also find that we are not basing our vote on a mainstream media driven popularity contest.
America is in real trouble, and we need to inform ourselves on the real issues like the economy, loss of high paying jobs, a runaway federal reserve, changing our preemptive foreign policies, and stop being the policeman of the world.
We can't afford it and we are spending our country into oblivion!
Please if you are reading this, do not get caught up in the mainsteam propaganda.
Barack Obama is not for any real change, he has people like Zbigniew Brzezinski as his chief foreign policy adviser who played an integral role in the creation of Osama Bin Laden! Obama has also stated in public that he would launch a preemptive nuclear attack on Pakistan, Google it!
Hillary Clinton is a two time Bilderberger attendee, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. If you don't know what either of those organizations are, Google it!
John McCain is a warmonger and a amnesty liberal! He just said in a town-hall meeting yesterday that their will be more wars after this one! and a lot of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)to treat and a lot of Death! Is this the kind of change this country needs?
Mitt Romney wants to double Guantanamo Bay, have lawyers advise him on when to go to war and scale up our War on Terror, which is a sham! You can not wage a war on a tactic! You only wage wars when the Congress declares the war and when the country is under threat!
Mike Huckabee, well I don't understand how this guy is still in the race. If you support this man it's probably due to your religious beliefs, cause this man is one scary theological socialist.

That statement by Thomas Jefferson is perhaps one of the scariest things that I have every heard. I have heard it time and again coming from the Ron Paul campaign and each time it solidifies my support for him.
Can we actually do what he suggests? I don't know. Is it worth the effort? absolutely!!
Posted by: Steve | January 28, 2008 2:41 PM
There hasn't been a Presidential election like this since the 1800s when the Jeffersonian Republicans were fighting the Federalists.
Now the Democrats and Republicans are both like the Federalists 200 years ago -- pro Central Bank, pro National Debt and pro Big Government.
Whatever you say about Dr. Paul, you must say about Thomas Jefferson for paul is running on the platform of Jefferson's great Republican party (which is now sadly the Democrat party).
Think about this -- the same private company that prints our money promotes open borders and war. The more money they print, the more wealth they steal from you and me -- to the tune of trillions since 1913 when their private bank took over our U.S. dollar. One of the owners of the Fed and former Chairman of their lobbyist group is a Fabian Socialist named David Rockefeller.
All of the above is true, look it up.

The feds want to dump in 150 billion. To me that is like a doctor saying take two pills and call me in the morning. We need surgery in this economy. Ron Paul has the answer. No IRS taking your money every pay day. That money people would spend in the economy. Now that is a boost that works all year long, year after year. The US was never to be a Empire. Never has any county or govenment been able to maintain a Empire. They all have gone broke. We are next.

For me, tt comes down to this: The federal government is acting like an irresponsible heir to an incredible fortune. It has borrowed an unfathomable amount of money which no other country would be able to borrow, but has done so because of it's long-standing status as an economic giant. That money it has borrowed, is collectively ours. We are paying almost half the year to service our debt and everyone has seen someone who has gotten themselves into that situation personally. We have to reduce our expenditures, reduce our future liabilities, and if not invest for the future, at least pay down the debt we have so we can afford a future with schools, houses, roads, medicine, and food.

Claudia: do you think "phasing out" is your solution to social security? I just don't see it. Sorry, if I'm blind, and think this is an addled man. No income tax how you gonna fund schools? Read a book titled, "Free to Lose" -- I read it in college and realized we need balance --not -- phasing out.

Afraid of banks? You capitalists have lost your minds. Banks are part of the system. Don't give me the barter system these days. I've got to finance.

Ron Paul is the only candidate addressing real issues, real problems and very real SOLUTIONS. The federal reserve is a big issue for me. I feel that the criminal acts of this privately owned central bank, are destroying the US economy and security. Our income tax which generates roughly 1 trillion dollars a year is used to merely pay the interest on loans to this private institution. Look at the names of some of the elite families that run the Federal Reserve, people such as the Rockefellers, Rothschilds and Sacs. Why do we Americans let our tax money pay interest to these individuals? Why do we allow them to inflate our money supply destroying the purchasing power of every Americans dollars and savings. Ron Paul is the only candidate that has studied economics for 30 years and KNOWS how to reverse this system in a methodical and precise way to benefit this nation. The economy and the dollar are dying, let Dr. Paul fix it. Also, look at his stance on civil liberty. Ron Paul is the only candidate opposing the massive encroachment on our rights by the federal government. Illegal wire taps, suspension of Habeas Corpus, the Patriot Act. Do some research on those running for office. I guarantee the more you learn the more likely you will be to VOTE RON PAUL 2008!

Great interview, it's nice to see Ron Paul get some due airtime he's got more delegates than Rudy for god sakes where's the coverage? This election is not a Dem or Rep election this is the election for America. Ron Paul is the only candidate that can win for America. Were going broke with our over seas spending and we just can't afford it. Ron's the only candidate talking about the Federal Reserve (that's not Federal)and inflation tax. We have to get back to sound money. Come together for Ron Paul in 08 America we will not get another candidate or chance like this one.

Also, I'd like to keep the tips that I make as a bartender. Ron Paul agrees. My tips are my income. It's mine. Not the government's.
Keep the US government's dirty, bloodstained hand's out of YOUR pockets/pocketbooks !
Vote RON PAUL !

I can't stand the people who like Ron Paul, but will not vote for him, because he will not be able to accomplish much. What you are saying is, you would rather have the status quo in power which has sunk our Republic! You also seem to be stating that it would be a bad thing for bureaucrats to be deadlocked. Wake up!
To those who try to pass off Ron Paul as a nut, you only show your utter ignorance and or complicity in supporting an ever increasing rogue government. I suppose if tyranny wins in November you will just love licking the jackboots. I guess with all of that boot polishing with your tongue, you really won't need to be able to tell s*** from shinola. Thanks for being a good nazi, as John Adams rolls in his grave.

They said Reagan was unelectable also! Ron Paul is a true patriot, and is the only candidate who will bring peace to the middle east. He understands the true cause of terrorism against the U.S., and that is blowback from our terrible foreign policy over the past 50 years.
Why on earth do we borrow $2 Billion per day from China, then turn around and give money to Pakistan, tanks to Israel, weapons to Saudi Arabia, etc, etc. This is bankrupting our country, and is NOT a conservative platform. We need a REAL conservative in the office! Ron Paul is our only hope.

As President, Ron Paul will be limited under the Constitution to do a lot of things without the consent of Congress but one thing he can do is stop all the damning UnConstitutional Executive Orders and make them null and void.
I am voting for Ron Paul for this specific reason he adheres to the Constitution his record proves this and he is truthful--Wow! what a concept - a politician who speaks the truth!
Here is a chance for many people to actually not have to vote for the lesser of two evils if they choose Ron Paul.

I sent in my absentee ballot for me and my mother and we voted for Dr. Ron Paul. He speaks the truth and is the real deal. He will cure what is ailing the American people which is jobs, economy and bring the troops home immediately. I love the idea that he is a staunch supporter of the constitution and a fiscal conservative. Ron Paul is willing to get rid of the Federal Reserve and make sound money.

ron paul did not want to be passive in respose to 9/11. he voted to authorize the war in afgahnistan. you have to remember Irag had nothing to do with 9/11. Bush threw off the balance of power when he toppled Saddam. it is the bush administration that no longer is concerned with finding bin Laden. the one who attacked us. Bush has locked us into a quagmire. Ron Paul is the only candidate with a real solution and not just some clever campaign. foreign policy is the reason for blowback and we will only get a bigger blast if we continue to be ignorant toward other cultures due to our thirst for oil.

I support the measures Ron Paul proposes to take to address the long-term and short-term needs of our economy. I also believe our economy would greatly benefit and we would be safer if we bring our troops home and quit giving other nations so much reason to resent our domination and aggressiveness.
The way I see it, the core of our problems in these areas all stem from how our monetary system works. It takes a while to grasp it and I am so grateful I hung in there and reached a level of clarity. Unless we reform our monetary policy both our national security and economy are at risk to melt down.
In a nutshell, our military ties in because our dollar has no direct tangible backing any longer and our military power is now necessary to keep the dollar propped up.
The dollar-to-gold convertability was terminated in 1971 so the only tangible backing left is the OPEC agreements that mandate oil be bought and sold denominated in US Dollars.
Thus, many nations hold large quantities of dollars in their reserves and is what is meant when it is said the US dollar is the world's reserve currency. So we have many nations receiving our dollars as well as also becomming our lender. America is in debt to many foreign nations and this is a serious problem if we value our sovereignty. If the time comes that other nations reject our dollars then the value of the dollar will crash.
Our reasons for taking out Sadaam had more to do with his efforts to buy and sell oil in Euro instead of USD. Iran is threatening to do the same and this is why we are beating war drums. The same condition exists with Hugo Chavez in S. America. The weapons of mass destruction they have is massive oil reserves that if sold in other currencies could reshape the entire economic landscape of the world.
Of course our govt. cannot admit this is the real motivation for regime change because then this would actually trigger the collapse of the dollar faster. That's why most of the dirty work (Americans don't really know about) is done by clandestine operations. And worse, it is done by propping up ruthless dictators who do our dirty work for us in a very treacherous manner that violates our Constitution's mandate that no cruel and unusual punishment should be inflicted upon anyone.
If we are delegating our dirty work using thugs via bribery, threats and/or blackmail who have no respect for the principles of our Constitution then this is a serious blight against us as a nation. We will lose our respect in the world if this continues. Thus, Ron Paul wants to dismantle the CIA and the FBI to root out these aspects of our national security policies.
Ron Paul sees the big picture and knows how all of this is connected and he knows the pathway we can take as a nation that is most likely going to bring us back to health and restore our respect and friendship around the world.
If we don't elect Ron Paul the cover-ups are going to continue and we are going to have to get more aggressive on the world stage and more oppressive against our own citizens to keep our flawed monetary system functional.
I don't think the world is going to tolerate it much longer and we have lost far too many liberties already, even with 911 events that seem to justify it.
At some point those that we owe money to are going to want to collect and if our dollars become worthless they are going to want to collect it in treasure. Thus, I forsee hostile boots on our soil when the debt collectors come calling. And on the domestic front I hope we remain peaceful and civil and that we can regain our liberties as soon as possible.
Let's start the reforms now and correct what is taking us in the wrong direction and at the same time return our government back to what the Constitution was designed to accomplish.
All of the serious problems we face now are a result of allowing our federal government to grow beyond what the constitution allowed. We are paying the price in our social, economic and national security. If we don't turn back I see things continuing in a vicious cycle.
Please, join me and support Ron Paul and our Constitution for the good of our nation and the world.

I'm trying but my money just doesn't go as far these days.

Ron Paul is just what this country needs. The founders framed the Constitution in the attempt to stop just what has happened with the Federal government over the past century. We no longer obey the Constitution and we now have a bloated, monolithic, corrupt central government, which has usurped power from the states and the people, which was supposed to be ensured by the 10th Amendment.
Come November, I will vote for Paul, even if I have to write in Ronald Earnest Paul on the ballot.

Ron Paul is the best thing that can happen to this country. Listen to all of these other Repulican and Democrat "front-runners" they are selling lies... and, sad to say, many of us are buying them.
Posted by: dirk kendall | January 28, 2008 7:37 PM
I'm not sure what Hal Hill is talking about. Ron Paul categorically states that he DOES want to take care of people. If we could opt out of Social Security, we would not have that money taken from our paychecks. Hal could then pay to get his teeth fixed. He could also save and invest his money. If he simply chose a conservative investment program, he would come out with more money in retirement than he would get under Social Security. (Remember, employers have to match the amount you pay in Social Security taxes, so you could possibly get a raise from the employer's matching money, which could go to you instead of the government, in addition to keeping the taxes you now have to pay.)
This concept is even more true if Ron Paul's proposal to end the income tax were to be realized. How much more money would you have if you did not have to pay income taxes OR Social Security taxes?
Also, if the economy were freed from the wealth-destroying mandates of government, there would be plenty of charitible organizations willing to help people who could not make it on their own. Hal needs to think this through before he jumps to conclusions. In the healthier economy that Ron Paul espouses, not only would you keep the money you earn, but you would likely be making more money AND have dollars which are not losing value over time.
Only Ron Paul wants to end the most insidious tax of them all -- the inflation tax. This occurs whenever the government creates money for its own purposes and in so doing devalues the money the rest of us have. The dollar has lost over 95 percent of its value since the Federal Reserve was created in 1913.
Part of the reason that the economy is having troubles right now and the dollar is losing value even faster than usual is the fact that we are financing our interventionist foreign policy by borrowing and creating money. This is what always dooms empires.
Further, Ron Paul is the only one offering a plan to help people already depending on Social Security (and Medicare, Medicaid...) because he is the only one offering a proposal to cut spending deeply enough that that these programs will not go bankrupt. The other candidates all want to increase spending.
Why don't the people in the mainstream media ever ask these candidates where the money is going to come from?!!
Do you want to save Social Security or the bureaucracy known as the Department of Education? Do you want Medicare or the Department of Energy? Do you want a future of prosperity or an impoverished future replete with a series of devastating and costly wars? The answers should be obvious.
If Ron Paul is not elected, we will get more of the same. The size, cost and scope of government will grow. It doesn't matter whether a Democrat or a Republican gets elected. They do the same things, just with a slightly different emphasis.
We need Ron Paul -- and we need him NOW.
Thank you to Robert Mak for a good interview. It was not one of Ron Paul's best interviews, (no fault of Mr. Mak's!) but Mr. Mak asked valid questions and was a fair interviewer and that's all I ask.

R.P. Ross Perot made more sense. Me, I'm gonna go with a winner in the long haul. No- one's selling lies to Dr. Ron Paul. Abolish the monetary system? Don't tax wealth?
I am certain that my 20% taxes does help us as its done collectively.
Spend the other 80% on yourself. But, spend 20 percent on your neighbors to pave the streets, insurance, keep the schools open, and YOUR wages bit above poverty.
No Free Fallen.

Good job and thank you for such a great interview.
We don't want more of the same with open borders, tax and spend political hacks like Hillary, Obama, McCain.
If Paul doesn't get the nomination I will be writing him in anyway.

It should be pointed out that Ron Paul came in second in both Nevada AND Louisiana. In fact, when the final votes are counted, it may turn out that he won Louisiana, as there were many outstanding provisional ballots yet to be counted when John McCain was prematurely declared the winner by the head of the Louisiana GOP (who is a McCain supporter. What a shock.)
Even after SuperDuperHyperMega Tuesday, on February 5th, more than half of the delegates will remain unchosen. This race is not over yet. Ron Paul has the money to take it quite a bit further and an interesting strategy. The mainstream media is trying to call the race long before it is over, which is rather odd. You can read more about this on Ron Paul's official web site.

Ron Paul is the only hope this country has for saving itself. Those of us who support Dr. Paul know that America can no longer follow this phony Left v. Thank you king5 for this interview...however please don't think that since you did one, that that is all we need. if you are aware, national news has blatantly ignored Ron Paul even more as he gains more supporters. special interests... that's for sure. To the people who say they like Ron Paul but too bad he won't win and goes for the "more likely" winner, that is what kills the process of voting. Plus, those people are WAY behind on the times.. that is what people were literally saying ALL the time 6-8 months ago... now it is flooded with people who will back Paul ALL THE WAY TO A WRITE-IN VOTE. Vote with your hearts, that is one way to get the soul back into america.

I have the greatest respect for you, Robert Mak, and the neutrality and non-bias way in which you present the issues. It is therefore fitting that Ron Paul should be interviewed in like manner on your show. Kudo's to you Robert!
Yes, I am a Ron Paul supporter, but not because of the man. It has always been the concept of individual liberty that has and continues to drive the Ron Paul campaign. Ron Paul's ideals are the ideals of Washington and Jefferson. It is that ideal that has fueled and continues to fuel this campaign. Vote for Ron Paul and win a free country!

Ron Paul CAN win, if we stand up and vote for him. What the point in voting for the candidate that is "supposed" to win??? If you vote for Ron Paul what do you lose? I think most of us can agree that the rest of the republicans are bad for us, and the Dems aren't much better. We need to send a strong message to the powers that be, that we're not going to take it anymore.

Paul is the only candidate that can muster support from both sides of the isle. Not hard left, or hard neo-conservative right, hes nestled in the middle where a true conservative should be. He actually has proposals that will HELP middle class people, not just give them lip service. The proposals only seem radical because nothing has happened in so long to help us that it seems outrageous. Not to mention if media shuns him, it gives him more credibility IMO.

Good questions and good answers. Mr. Paul has thought through his positions and they all start with something he would have the power to do as president: stop subsidizing the adult countries of the world and bring our troops home! How are we safer with bases and people in Korea, Japan, Germany, and God knows where else...?

I will vote for Ron Paul. Dr. Paul's principles, intelligence, wisdom, and strength of conviction about freedom and upholding the constitution are compelling. I believe that he is the only candidate that can tackle the issues that are causing Americans to worry about our future. The thought of ANY of the other candidates winning makes me afraid. If you had a chance to vote for a candidate who could change history and prevent the United States from falling like Rome, wouldn't you?

Hi,
If you are fortunate enough to have your vote actually counted the way you post it, good for you. Ron Paul represents the best of America. He is an eagle amongst pidgeons. Vote for the pidgeons if you wish, they'll eat everything you give them then drop their gifts all over you. Voting for your independence as a man or woman is far more important than joining the crowd. The crowd is little more than glossed over stupidity. Even if the slime have corrupted the voting system so it no longer reflects the true votes - attitude is far more important than false numbers. What Ron Paul represents, I find most valuable.

I think it's funny, yet saddening that our country, and the Republican party, have gotten so far out of whack that when they hear someone like Ron Paul they think he is a loon. Ron Paul talks about the core values that our Constitution and Founding Fathers prescribe...and he is out of line? The values of smaller government, lower taxes, no agressive wars, no nation-building, and more personal freedoms are not popular or electable? What am I missing here?
Posted by: Frank Gore | January 29, 2008 9:34 AM
I've been following the 2008 presidential race since it began.
It really scares me and really makes me wonder about most of the people in our great Country.
It's the ignorance of them that is/will destroy America! I've seen people vote for candidates because they think they are nice, because she is a woman, he is a minority, he looks presidential, they talk about doing something and etc... but if you look at their voting records (except for Ron Paul), you will see that they are giving lip service and they will NOT make any major changes we need in our Government.
The vast majority of the voters don't really take the time to see the underlying problems we face as a Nation and equate that with how the candidate will address it. They are like sheep, and will follow each other off of a cliff because that's where we are headed without Ron Paul. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!
They all say they will lower taxes, cut spending, deal with issues... but that's just a lot of hot air! They will make little changes but nothing drastic that would be needed to save America.
I've never voted before because of how corrupt the polititions are and it didn't really make a difference between one candidate or another cause they are puppets to many different special interest groups and organizations.
But when I heard about Ron Paul, he gave me hope! I will vote for him because his voting record has always been cast according to the Constitution, has a plan to get our Country back from the corruption of the status quo, get our privacy/rights back, get the greedy crooks out of our pockets, etc... and SAVE AMERICA!!!
But if he does not become our next president, our great Nation will crumble from them spend-thrift puppet polititions and our rights will totally erode away.

Ron Paul only understands our economic straits an how we got into slavery to the bankers, as did andrew Jackson when he paid off thr national debt in 1835. Give him a chance. He is a good leader, knows the issues, and has my vote.
Posted by: Ron Moss | January 29, 2008 1:59 PM
The most interesting thing right now about Ron Paul is how the media is ignoring him. I think it is unpardonable. He takes second in Nevada and it is barely mentioned. It is proven that (at least a few) of his votes were not counted in New Hampshire and it is ignored. At the debates that he is (seemingly grudgingly) allowed to participate in he gets little time even though he is often the only candidate giving real (not just "politician-speak") answers. I'm not sure I agree with everything he has to say, but it would be nice if it was easier to hear it. Kudos to you for having him on.

I disagree with Vanessa and most of you. We are not representative of America. No Washingtonians are idealists that vote for Pat Robertson, Ross Perot, and Nader Raiders...
The question for the country is do you want Hillary Clinton or John McCain. You have to make a good choice guys. Arizona and New York represent the country. Washington jumps off with Pat Robertson or Ralph Nader, or Ron Paul when it comes to presidential elections. We follow the trend of surrealism and we have no effect. Ohio and Florida do. And, Vietnam makes....the difference.
(Hillary or 'Nam) Nam and Dallas -it- WILL be. Come on Washington.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
RON PAUL - THAT'S WHO!

RON PAULS IDEAS ARE GREAT AND HE IS ENTITLED TO THE PRESIDENCY
OBAMA IS ALL WORDS AND NO SUBSTANCE -- WAY TOO ACADEMIC AND BUREAUCRATIC - NO ABILITY TO GET THINGS DONE. OBAMA HAS NO ABILITY TO SEE THE BIG PICTURE.

I have followed Dr. Paul's voting record in Congress for twenty years. He votes and speaks according to the principles of our Founders.
America is on the brink of financial collapse. Go to Youtube and listen to Paul's in-depth discussions about what is happening to our dollar, civil liberties, etc.
Then, give all you can give to his campaign.

“Ron Paul has once again topped multiple media-anointed ‘frontrunners’ with his poll-defying second place showing in Nevada,” said Ron Paul campaign chairman Kent Snyder. “We’re in this race to win, and we’re going to battle for every delegate in this wide-open race for the Republican nomination.”

Finally there is someone that I can vote for that is NOT the " Lesser of two evils". He has a simple grounded message that has no " Filler" ( Bologna )
He not only has my vote, but my new founded interest in politics and influence of those around me has given him many other votes as well.

No taxes whatsoever?? I bet you Ron Paul doesn't become the next president. Anyone wanna bet?
Then what is all this talk about? Well its the Kucinich-like talk that happens every 4 years....
Saddening - but I'll vote for Hillary for a change, and see ya people in another 4 years --- expending alot of energy. Shame. You'd have to change the constitution (to Parlimentary system) to get some Paulists' in the cabinet.
Me, I'm realistic. I'd let him in the government----but vote for people who believe in spending a 'wee
bit. Just a wee bit.

As the economy continues to deteriorate my hope is that people start to really question why. If they do and really take the time to look into our monetary policy they might just find the true answer. Paul supporters understand that the answer isn’t just passing regulations on the loan/banking industry, let’s hope some other politicians figure that out before we’re all waiting in soup lines.
Regardless I’ll be voting for an honest, intelligent and principled man – Ron Paul. McCain and Hillary are all but the same thing as far as I’m concerned.

I'll be listening closely to Eisenhower as I cast my vote in November. As closely as usual. Because, clearly; there's been too much waste.
