Gregoire: Governor today, candidate tomorrow
She has not officially announced her candidacy, but everyone knows she's running. As the legislature arrives back in Olympia, Governor Christine Gregoire has a chance to add a few more bullet points before the campaign begins...
Spending: Republicans point out the governor has increased spending dramatically since taking office; Gregoire counters that the money was spent on education and health care in good economic times.
Deficit: Gregoire can say she took over with a deficit and now has a billion dollar surplus. Republicans say her budgets will lead to deficits in the years ahead.
Viaduct: Republicans will simply point to the fact that no decision has been made on the central waterfront; Gregoire says the south end construction has begun.
520: Gregoire has announced a plan to use tolling to fill a two-billion dollar funding gap. Republicans question whether it's realistic and whether slimming down the pontoons is a good idea.
Of course, health care, education, public safety and virtually every issue will be harvested for the campaign. What's your opinion on the Gregoire record? Has she done the job?
Final note: Gregoire has steered clear of endorsing any presidential candidate. Until this week, she said she wanted to stay out of the fray to respect her fellow Democratic Governor Bill Richardson. After Richardson dropped out of the race this week, Gregoire would only say that her choices are down to two: Clinton and Obama. Don't expect any surprises on this front.

People keep forgetting that driving in this state is not a right. Maybe this will also get the uninsured non licensed meth heads off the road too.

First I need to apologize for voting for Rossi and now realized what a mistake I made in 2004. I believe Gov. Gregoire has been a breath of fresh air to politics in WA. She has shown true concern for the individuals in our state and not for large businesses. She makes common sense about the check points for safety on our roadways. As for roadways, I am glad to see her put her foot down about the Viaduct and making our wishy washy city of Seatlle quit paying for expensive studies and do something. As for the 520 her ides will make the people who use it pay for it and not the others in our stae who could care less about the taxes paying for a bridge they would never use.
Her overall record while in office shows she Loves this State and it's People. Especially when it comes to the kids, where ahe has worked hard to improve the educational structure. The only niche I have with her term was she didn't clean up DSHS and eliminate all the waste and cliques in that department. The bottomline is, I am a grateful citizen to have such a caring politician as my governor, Thank You Goveror Gregoire.

Christine: Child Support, son has back child support, the mother has never worked a day, and son has fifty per cent taken out for back child support, needless to say cannot afford an attorney, make 19 dollars an hours, take home is 8 dollars, poverty is 10.00 an hour. how does one make it on this. We have been helping him out but may not live long enough.

We would be so much farther ahead if the Dino Rossi election was upheld, not delayed until more illegal votes could be gathered. Just wait until we realize the full price of the Gregoire plans and what it's doing to our future.

Governor Gregoire has been the most effective governor we have had in years. She is tackling tough issues. She reached out to the Republicans in the legislature and reined in the most liberal of the democrats. Has everything she has done been right? Or course not - she is not perfect, but she has taken me from being a skeptic to being a supporter. Now we will see Rossi's colors - will he engage in a dirty campaign? Is that really a question?

Governor Gregoire has been one of the most productive, upfront and realistic leaders this state has had in a long time. Christine has been excellent for this state and she's a heck of an asset.
Had we elected Rossi - we'd be in a heap of a mess.

I did cast my vote for her but I have to admit I've grown a bit disillusioned by her progress this term. The state of Washington operationally somehow seems more out of control than its ever been. I know she inherited a can of worms but she seems to be waiting for answers to drop out of the ceiling. I don't have a major hardcore opposition to taxes but my Gawd!! back off it a little please! You guys in Olympia are killing me and my business. No wonder you have the Tim Eyemans showing up every November with initiatives to "protect" our monies. (Speaking of out of control). In (using the term lightly here) "defense" of the governor though, citizens of this state have to stop demanding some things for free. The more uneducated and illiterate the community becomes, the less they understand what the process is and where the monies come from. Most people don't care. You can tell by how many attend those public input meetings that the various municipalities call for. Apathy. Its not all the governors or the governments fault. I don't know about you, but I love spending other peoples money. Its one of my most favorite things. Olympia likes it too. Sorry Christine, you've given it a go but the results aren't really showing. You need to fire about half the department heads and clean house. Now.

Gas taxes were increased twice, yet the bridges we were told were ready to fall down are still standing. Our State Ferry system is dysfunctional, Our Department of Corrections has no idea where hundreds of offenders are at, the Department of Social and Health Services has cost us millions in lawsuits for incompetence and despite millions and millions of dollars more, our public schools are worse than twenty years ago. Would someone please come forward and take charge of the State of Washington. We want leadership governor, not excuses.
