McGavick speaks out

| Behind the scenes: Searching for a changed man |
Every news story has a shelf life. Last week, it seemed Mike McGavick admitting to a DUI was getting to be an old story. But then, the newspapers reported that the Republican Senate candidate had misstated some of the facts. We decided to extend an invitation to the McGavick campaign to give the candidate a chance to clear the air over his confessions. In addition to the DUI, he named other regrets in his life including his first divorce and a negative ad he ran against Democrat Mike Lowry many years ago.
We thought McGavick might decline the interview, because we read that he was no longer going to talk about his confessions. But in fairness, we made a similar offer to Democratic senator Maria Cantwell a few weeks ago, when she was under fire for her vote on the Iraq war and hiring one of her sharpest critics. Cantwell accepted the interview and used the air time to defend her vote and to make it clear, she had no regrets. By Tuesday, McGavick's campaign also accepted. On that same day, he issued a second apology for getting some of the details wrong on his DUI, and the campaign urged us to attend a speech on Thursday, because McGavick was going to address his confessions once again. On this week's show, you'll see parts of McGavick's speech, in which he called it a "tabloid" story that was detracting from other issues facing the country. As we taped the interview Friday morning, we made a decision not to rehash the details of a 13-year-old DUI. Was the light red or yellow? How many drinks led to a .17 blood alcohol test? Did he really fall asleep at the station? All those questions had been asked by other reporters. Instead, our plan was to approach the interview with two themes: What should voters think the admissions he made? And how do the incidents McGavick divulged inform us about the person he is today? We divided the interview into four parts: Media: Given McGavick was the one--not his opponents or the press--who divulged his DUI, what aspect of the story did he consider "tabloid?" Drunk driving: For someone as politically experienced as McGavick, why didn't he get the facts right? Was the DUI a life changing event, and in what way did he change his lifestyle after the incident? Family life: McGavick wrote that he regrets being a "part-time" dad to his oldest son. His ex-wife told The Seattle Times he was on the phone to a campaign event while she was in labor. Could that really be true? And for every dad who has had to balance work and family, how would McGavick do that if he were elected to a job in D.C.? Lowry apology: McGavick said in an open letter that he regrets taking out a negative ad that falsely portrayed then Rep. Mike Lowry's position on legalizing marijuana. But Gov. Lowry tells us, McGavick never apologized to him directly. Why not? The interview hopefully goes beyond a candidate laying out his dirty laundry, and gives voters a chance to judge how McGavick has changed his life. With about a minute left on the clock, I also had a chance to ask him about the practice of credit scoring in insurance policies--an issue the Democrats appear ready to exploit this fall. |

The sober McGavick is scary to…….
During his tenure at Safeco, McGavick thought nothing about hundreds of employees getting pink slips. Then he walked away with a grin on his face and $28 million in his pocket… and never looked back. One has to wonder how many of those people could have kept their jobs with that $28 million?

Wow, that was a total waste of my time. Robert Mak didn't ask any meaningful questions. Of all the questions that could have been asked about Social Security, Iraq, and healthcare, he decided to ask about old stuff that has nothing to do with the current political situation. I learned absolutely nothing helpful from that interview. It felt like I was watching Inside Edition or some other tabloid TV show.

I just viewed the interview that Robert Mak had with Mcgavick, Sunday morning, September 10, 2006. I believe that the question posed by Mr. Mak to Mr. McGavick asking if he would be a part time parent if he won the election was unfair. Would the same question be posed to Patty Murray or any woman candidate that is running for Senate election? Why do we want to always zero in on fathers who travel and leave their children for periods of time? Are we afraid of backlash from women's groups if we question the parenting of working moms?

Nice to see once again that the news is reporting the issues we are all concerned about! How many times should we review McGavick or anyone elses short comings? Nobody said he was God.. just a mere man whom has made mistakes like the rest of the human race and is trying to make a positive difference in Americas furture. How sad it is that our news has turned into twisted attacks of every breath taken in addition to reporting 97% sad, bad or depressing. News (and I use the word cautiously) should be more that all the crap happening in society..but it seems like those are the easy stories to report.. far be for a reporter to find something good or positive or even uplifting happening. I think it should be
called the hour of DOOM & GLOOM. With the exception of Cisco.. his bubbly attitude and zest for life is more of what should be projected. Shame on you! Thank you Mr McGavick for trying to make a difference and putting your life on a platter however unfortunate for the good on OUR AMERICA.

Mike McGavik has my vote! He is so right the media spends more time at negative publicity than at the issues at hand. I'm not sure if this negative publicity is just to sale the news or that some people are just mean. We all make mistakes in life, and like Mike stated, "We all learn from our mistakes". I believe in honesty, and forgivenss. Unfortunately, many citizens drive under the influence everyday. I don't believe in drinking and driving, and I will not say that I never had, I was just got lucky (what most of us call it when don't get caught)I certainly would have deserved to have gotten a DUI that night(which was over 10 yrs ago) what made me think of my actions was that I could have hurt an innocent person and I never drank and drove again. Does that one night mean I'm a terrible person, no. The world is based on forgiveness, and learning from our mistakes. Mike McGavik sounded very truthful in all responses, and I want a senator in office that we can trust that is fighting for the issues at hand. Thank you for the opportunity to voice my opinion.
Sincerely,
Angelina McNelley

I think Mike did a good job clarifying the issues that have arose from the press.
I would love to see the article of his track win in Highschool.
I enjoyed the interview and felt he was very forthright with his answers. He seemed like a normal guy, which I think he is.
We need more like Mike as our state politicians. At least he isn't afraid to answer the questions.

On June 14th 2006 my 3 year old son was killed by a drunk driver! and because he did not want to get another DUI, he ran. If we put someone like you in office, it makes it harder to change the DUI laws. That person was once a first time offender, but recived a secone chance! and look what he did! I do not care that your DUI was 13 years ago, it still shows what kind of person you are. You should have used you second chance to change the laws, and made more DUI offenders more responsable for there actions! Just like you use someones credit to score there auto insurance, I will use your DUI to score you! and with that score that leaves you out of the running!!

It isn't Robert Mak's fault that McGavick is running such an inept campaign that he has to spend his time cleaning up mistakes and self-inflicted wounds. If McGavick can't get his message through on "the issues" that is more a reflection on him than the media.
Frankly, I don't think McGavick has any "issues" in his campaign. He wants to talk about all the reasons we don't talk about "the issues" and this tired anti-status quo, anti-Washington rhetoric... but when it boils down to it, his campaign is like Seinfeld: "a campaign about nothing."
He's running a campaign with the empty rhetoric of "running a campaign on the issues" instead of actually running a campaign on the issues. He doesn't talk about issues at all - just cynically plays on people's distaste for gvmt and politicians. Slick, but fake when you look closer.

OK, let's see if I have this right. Mike McGavick want's to make a TRUE CONFESSION by admitting to all his past indiscretions (well maybe only 3 or 4).
He didn't have to do this because it seems he was the only one that KNEW ABOUT THEM. My guess is he thought he would get the reaction he FIRST got when he came out with this heart felt confession. He didn't seem to think anyone would say "HUH."
During the UP FRONT Show he said he was surprised that we are still talking about this. Far as I could see Robert Mak wasn't holding a gun on McGavick. I would guess he got to the studio on his own wouldn't you agree. So my question is who is keeping this story alive.
Did you happen to notice Mr. McGavick's reaction when Robert asked him, (I'm paraphrasing here but it's close) "How much did things change, how much did you drink, how often, how much".
His first reaction was to jerk upright and say "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME." I thought it was a fair question. Has he changed his drinking habits? My guess is NO!
Robert asked McGavick about his admission to running a misleading ad against Mike Lowery and how much he regretted that. But apparently not enough to call Lowery up and apologize for doing so. He said that Robert is right he should do that. Well it's been over 2 weeks since this all started and he hasn't called yet and didn't say that he would. Hey, he can't be sorry for everything. He's running for the senate.

I would like to state that I am a committed democrat so you can put my comments into context. I just watched your interview with McGavick. The interview was basically a waste of time. I think the current media feeding frenzy has pretty much given the voter enough information about McGavick's "character." You should have spent the interview asking McGavick relevant question about his stance on the big issues of the day. And if you want to appear “hard hitting” nail him down on his bromides and weak answers. If McGavick wants to be Senator he better have some real plans on issues like the War in Iraq, healthcare etc etc. I would much rather listen to this kind of interview than you wasting the viewers time with sensational reportage.

Just watched Mr Mak's "interview" with Mike McGavick. I hope you are able to secure another "interview " with Maria Cantwell, and grill her on the recent reports of her lobby problems.
I thought Mr Mak's questions were totally off base.And he seemed to really enjoy asking them.
We all have at least a few skeletons in the closet.There was nothing of substance gleemed from this. I wish Mr. Mak had asked some serious policy questions !

Robert, Robert, Robert! I was hoping for better from you. This DUI thing has been hashed to death! I don't give a rat's rear about this guy's DUI. It was 13 years ago for heaven's sake, he hasn't done it since, and it's not news anymore. I want to know important stuff, like what exactly will he do if he gets elected. What problems will he focus on and what methods will he use to solve them (he does call himself a "Problem Solver",after all)? His commercials are awfully vague about that. I wanted more substance and less style from him, and I certainly expected more from you, Robert. Specifics! Who, what, when, where, and especially HOW!! No more of these glittering generalities, ok? Give us some hard info that we can use to assess these guys when we go to the polls. Thank you.

Why didn't you ask him how he felt about bringing oil tankers into Puget Sound for his buddy (BRIDGE TO NOWHERE) Republican Senator Stevenson from Alaska.
And why does he align himself with Republican Senator (amnesty for illegals) McCain.

After watching this interview, I find myself knowing nothing more than the vague platitudes in McGavick's commercials. This was an opportunity for Mr. Mak to ask substantive questions, but he seemed to be channeling Oprah. His shallow questioning and focus on trivia were ironic proof that McGavick is right about at least one thing: the media is obsessed with rumors, innuendos, and pettiness. Come on: a question about McGavick making a phone call during his son's birth process?
Even though I am a die-hard supporter of Maria Cantwell, I still left this experience sympathizing with Mr. McGavick.

I think it is great that Mike has gotten his family and home life in perspective. It is important to have the proper focus on your family. But the issues in the Senate race are about capability, follow through and competence.
The two problems with his DWI issue. I find it hard to accept the “I FORGOT!!” defense – the arrest, the lockup, the court appearance, the sentencing…. I forgot??? What a load of B.S. None of us are perfect, but this is an accountability issue for an important position with our State. His issue seems to be is he got caught in the lie, not that he lied. What else will he be hiding from us in the future?
The second problem is this was supposed to be a CEO of a major corporation. How can Mike put out this kind of information and it wasn’t checked or verified by his handpicked staff? What kind of amateur hour is this? If he cannot handle such an obvious political issue, what kind of leadership can we expect from him in DC? How can he begin to grasp and even deal with the real issues facing our State and not just be a partisan lap dog serving up sound bites followed with “OPPS” and “I FORGOT”!

I called mike Mcgaviks office to see what his stance on a very important issue. I was transfered to two different people, then I was asked to refer my question to Mikes website. So I go to mikes website and its down. Is this the kinda person we want representing us in washington dc?
I do not know about you but I expect more out of our publicaly elected servants!

We all know that it does not matter how the rest of the State of Washington votes... because King County always gets to decide !! Crazy loony Libs !!! Any county that keeps re-electing Jim McDermott gets the kind of leadership they deserve. Too bad the rest of us have to put up with consequences.

I thought Mr. Mak's asking Mike Bush er George McCavick about what changed after his DUI was right on...He talked about this "life changing thing" so "what changed?" is a valed question.
The fact he blew up shows he is still a big BS'er like before. Thanks Mr. Mak
A question I would like answered is "Mike, You advocated selling the University of Washington and Washington State when you were in Office before. When you are in the Senate will you advocate repeling the Land grant College Act so they will be sold?"

Either Mike McGavick is incredibly naive or he thinks the citizens of Washington are. He sounds like he is anti-Establishment, but then he would be a Republican running against a Republican government. As a freshman Senator he would have his kneecaps handed to him in a Senate cloakroom if he actually tried to turn this credit-card Republican Congress and President into responsible fiscal conservatives. His message does not compute.

It is all about the mans character. "During his tenure at Safeco, McGavick thought nothing about hundreds of employees getting pink slips. Then he walked away with a grin on his face and $28 million in his pocket" I really wonder if lay-offs of hundreds of people is ever comendable or worthy of a reward. In my view business losses are the manefestation of bad management not bad employees. I think massive lay-offs to conceal bad management rather than improve the underlying business processes is disgusting. But is that what actually happened at SAFCO? How many executives got layed-off? What changed there?
That said we should talk about the money. On the one hand it is obviously bad taste to take a bonus for all those lay-offs, but on the otherhand there are not many of us who would turn down the 28 million particularly if the company actually did return to sound financial health.
The issue is whether or not the mans private interests will overshadow the best interests of the common man if he is elected. Is he seeking election to serve or to profit from influence? What is the truth revealed in his pattern to date? Can he be trusted?
Mike you need to answer those questions to get elected.

Where do I go to get help with a neighbor that, after 13 years, continues to haraaa my household and uses county entities to ensure that he can gain athority and useage of my property. May I please bend your ear.
I have sent this to many entities such as:
the Govenor of Washington;
tried to explain it to the the Fire Marshel of Whatcon County;
Sheriff Elfo of Whatcom County;
Called Fire Commissioner in Whatcom County;
and have recently asked for help from "Clear" who has referred me to the "Law Advocates of Whatcom County". This is what I am able to send to them.
On 2/3/07 in the morning, Bill Sorenson came down onto my property with his dump truck followed by his tracker with another man and young boy and began cutting brush and tree limbs on our property. I approached him and told Mr. Sorenson to stop, since I had sent him a letter on January 8, 2007 stating that he needed to notify me if he saw a need to do maintenance on my driveway. At first, he ignored me. Then he said that I needed to get some gloves and help. My neighbor to the north of me came out to find out what was happening (Mr. McKena) and I asked him if he ordered Mr. Sorenson to do this. He stated no. Richard, my client and ex-husband who is disabled, was watching on the camera and I motioned for him to call the police. Richard did so and it was a good 20 minutes before a Deputy Boyd came. During this time while I waited for the Deputy to arrive, I was telling all there to halt the cutting until police arrived, but they ignored me. Mr. Sorenson at one point told me how much he loved me as a neighbor and how he had took care of me 23 years ago, which was when I was in a bad marriage. I assumed that his statements to me were to make himself the good Samaritan to the hired man that was with him. When Deputy Boyd arrived, I explained to her that he was on my property and I had not given him permission to work on my driveway. At first, Mr. Sorenson stated that he needed to upgrade the driveway because his insurance, Farmer’s Insurance, needed it done so he could sell his property. Then he told me that he had been sent a letter by Mr. McDowell, the District Fire Station #1, that the road needed to be cleaned up so it could be accessed by county trucks. Deputy Boyd went up to Mr. Sorenson’s home, where she told me later that he had paperwork from Mr. McDowell. I was forced to allow Mr. Sorenson to continue cutting and doing damage to my property since the Deputy said she couldn’t do anything since it was a civil problem. (civil case was not written up; #07A2524) I called Mr. McDowell later that afternoon, asking him why I didn’t receive any complaint concerning my driveway. At first, he said he knew nothing about the incident. Then he said that he had told Mr. Sorenson that he needed to cut back the brush that was obstructing the driveway on Mr. Sorenson’s property. I asked for the paperwork, whereby, Mr. McDowell brought it to me in person and explained that he never told Mr. Sorenson do any work on my property, that the work was with blackberry bushes on his property. He also agreed to write out a statement to that affect. It shows me that he lied to the Deputy in order, as in the past, to bully and harass me and my household. I have for years cut away brush, branches, and tree limbs, as well as mowing the sides of the driveway, so it would be easy driving for the Sorenson’s to use their easement. In the same manner as Mr. McDowell, he used false a statement in a court of law in 1996, Judge Ross residing, stating that a Retired Dept. Sheriff George Masten claimed my, then, husband was a thug and thief, along with other statements. We contacted Mr. Masten afterwards and obtains a letter from him stating he said no such thing. In fact, he didn’t know either party. Mr. Sorenson was in court under charges of assault to Richard McManus at that time and I feel that using Mr. Masten help to have his charges dismissed.
But because Mr. Sorenson was thwarted from swindling me out of my water rights back in1994, Mr. Sorenson, his wife, Jody and his mother, “Gussy” Sorenson (now deceased), have continually harassed our household. Bill developed a well on my property with the consent of my mother, even though the property was not hers. I was bedridden with a broken leg and was taking pain medication when approached by Jody Sorenson in June 1993 and told to sign a contract that would give them permanent use of our water and making us pay for power cost. I refused to sign; retaining attorney Mr. Daugert, and we went to court where we finally got them off our water in 1994. Mr. Sorenson’s intent with obtaining our water was to supply multiple mobiles homes he was moving up onto his property to rent them out. Although, he was doing this illegally and we turned him in to the Whatcom Planning and Development. The water use would have placed my household in an illegal water co-op and we would have been responsible for any problems that may have occurred.
It is sad to think that, because of Richard’s size, people have to feel threatened. Richard is disabled with potentially terminal conditions and no one ever needs to be scared or intimidated with him, as he has and always tried to litigate conflicts concerning our property. It would be of heuristic nature if you could check the AS 400 and realize that Richard and myself do not go to other properties to create problems; others come to us.
I have watched the Sorensons drive up and down our driveway spraying our dogs in the eyes with pure ammonia, Case # 95WH1893, Whatcom Humane Society. Mrs. Sorenson’s son, Ryan Neff, came to our house drunk while we were entertaining my biological mother and her family and proceeded to spew derogatory remarks at us and do damage to our front screen door, later coming back to spin “donuts” in our lawn while throwing beer cans out on our property and threaten to kill our dogs by strangling them, Case # 94A14719, Whatcom Sheriff. Mr. Sorenson has tried to talk our neighbors into doing damage to our property When that failed, he decided to do it himself by driving a bulldozer down our driveway. The track tore up the road, the blade gouging and damaging the roadway and my rock gardens, tearing up the sapling trees we planted along the edge of our property. Mr. Sorenson claimed that this was an emergency, but during this emergency his tenets were snapping pictures of myself pleading with Mr. Sorenson to stop the damage, Case #95A2349
Early in 1994, Jody Sorenson hit our male dog while driving fast up the driveway past our house. At that time, our dog was being chained in the backyard and broke loose. Since the dog was fine except for a scratch, Jody was told three times to go home; to leave our property, yet she refused. When we went back into the house, she told us through the bedroom window that she was going to call police stating that Richard ran her off the property at gun point. In court, Judge Ross caught her in this lie and the only reply she had was “He (Richard) doesn’t like me.” We secured the court tapes concerning this and have a letter from Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office showing a dismissal of that charge 7/29/94. We gained a protection order # AH 94-105. Yet, in 6/26/95, Jody sends me an apology card, stating that she wanted my forgiveness, but doesn’t like Richard because he was so angry at her. She also stated that she would not bother us on our property in the future.
On August, 27 1996, Jody Sorenson came down the driveway spraying the blackberries with a highly toxic chemical to kill them off. As I have stated earlier on, I have throughout the years cut them back out of range of vehicles, and for the past 30 years of living there, I have picked them to use. The fumes from the spray were suffocating and when she got down towards where my dogs were tethered, she intensified the spraying. She then placed an orange poster on a tree warning that the blackberries were poisoned. Police were called. Even the Officer who came had a hard time breathing. He did explain that blackberries were considered an noxious weed, but did tell Jody Sorenson that the spraying was an unnecessary act. As it was, there were many saplings and foliage that died off that we had planted on our personal property. As far as the Police call, nothing was done.
On September 1, 1996, Jody Sorenson, around 2:00 p.m., came down the easement with her weed eater cutting newly planted saplings along our road. As she came to the front of our house, she yelled to my husband who was out doing yard work “This is my road and I can maintain it. Come on Mr. McManus, try and stop me!”. We called an Officer S. Rossmiller who took a report. He also contacted Jody Sorenson. Nothing was done.
On the 20th of June, 2005, the sensor on our back driveway sounded off. Jody Sorenson was coming down with her weed eater. At first, we didn’t recognize her. She has been told many times, not only by us, but the authorities, not to do any maintenance on our land. While I was in the house watching on the monitor camera, my husband went out to tell her to leave, but she continued to weed eat the road, along with going outside the 30 foot easement. As she did this, she was yelling “Get out of my way!” and approached my husband in a threatening manner with the machine. Richard was barefoot, standing in the middle of the driveway with his hands behind his back. At one point, he took a few steps backwards for fear of the weed eater, since she was swinging it back and forth along the ground.
It was Mr. Sorenson who strangled Richard back in 1996, and in an effort to prove Richard to be the violent criminal, he brought up a marijuana charge that occurred in Texas in 1984 (first time offence, 4.23 oz., sentenced 7 years). Mr. Sorenson paid $17,000 in order to reduce his charge of assault. Using false statements from friends, relatives, and neighbors, he managed to make himself look good, and justified; this done when we went to court in front of Judge Ross. Mr. Sorenson was making false accusations in court, stating that a retired Dep. Sheriff George Masten claimed that I was a thug and thief. I have a statement from Mr. Masten stating he said no such thing, which only shows that Bill Sorenson would lie in court to get their own way and the justice system will back him up.
If Mr. Sorenson couldn’t do the harassing himself, he would encourage tenets of his to come down and do damage. One tenet was Marco Spade, who used Mr. Sorenson’s tracker to do “maintenance” on our driveway without permission in 1999. When I approached him, he climbed off the tracker, picked up a shovel, and took up an aggressive stance. I feel that if my son had not walked up behind me, he would have hit me. Mr. Spade would, like all the tenets who lived on Mr. Sorenson’s property, speed on our driveway. On February 15, 1999, while Mr. Spade was driving his vehicle up to the Sorenson’s, Richard was standing near the edge of the drive. Mr. Spade stopped quickly, backed up, and accelerated, intentionally causing gravel to shoot from the tires and hitting Richard in the face. Richard’s eye sight has never been the same since. A report was made to the police, yet nothing was done towards Mr. Spade. We had our insurance take pictures of Richard’s face. Nothing was done.
It was the summer of 2003 that we had a dog poisoned to death. Although, we can point fingers till we’re blue in the face concerning that incident, we can’t prove that the Sorenson’s did it, but it looks suspicious to us.
In 2005, I was out in my backyard grooming our dogs, which we had just gotten a new dog and I wanted to get to know her. Mr. Sorenson was coming home using the easement next to our house; he was driving slowly, banging on his truch and taunting our male dog. The dog went out and before I could call him back, Mr. Sorenson swung his truck door open hard, hitting our dog in the face. This was intentional. Mr. Sorenson has harmed our dog in the past by spraying pure ammonia into his face, which he admitted to the humane society(again, nothing was done), but this time he broke his jaw. Even though a statement from the veterinarian showed that the fracture our dog had was made by a blow to the side of the face, still Mr. Sorenson obtained his justice and good name by stating that our dog was aggressive. A statement from Mr. Bagget from SSP states that our dog is not aggressive, and Mr. Bagget came out and met our animals several times.
Early on the morning of 1/10/05, approximately 1:45 a.m., we were woken out of a dead sleep by security sensors on the back property, and since we had damage done to our property in the past, Richard went out to investigate. He saw a van pull up from Carl Road into our driveway and realized that it was the paper lady. He told her that he suspected intruders in the woods and to not drive up there until he checked it out. Since it had been snowing heavily, he took our car up the driveway and parked. At that point, he saw the van coming down from Sorenson’s. When he turned the car lights on, she quickly turned around, taking the horseshoe road back to Sebens Court to Carl Road. Richard wanted to see if she had picked someone up, so he went out of our driveway to Carl Road and down to the mailboxes. He stood at the edge of the road and raised his hand to get her to slow or stop, but instead, she sped up and hit him, along with leaving the scene. She claimed she was scared and intimidated by Richard; the exact words that Sorenson’s tout to everyone. First of all, there was no reason for her to deliver the paper to the doorstep of the Sorenson’s, because everyone has a paper box down at the mailboxes. We feel that she was asked to help harass us early in the mornings, since she would speed up and down with her delivery, and at one point, ran over our cat.
June 26, 2006 at 1:40 a.m., a truck that looked to be either a county or company vehicle, since it had an emblem on the side, yellow bar lights on the top, and camper shell on the bed, came down our driveway very slowly. When he stopped at the end of the drive by the main road (Carl Rd) he turned on his dome light and began to write on a clip board. I felt funny about the incident, so I called up SSP the next morning to see if there had been an animal problem in the neighborhood. The Officer told me that he had been on duty that night and had been out toward Birch Bay. He told me to call the police and see if they had anything to do with it. But when I told the Sheriff’s Department, they were unconcerned. Yet, almost one month later, he returned on July 23, 2006 at 3:10 a.m. from the Sorenson’s property. He came down slowly, but stopped and began to back up towards our security equipment. I quickly got outside, barefoot, and ran to the edge of my driveway, where I saw him getting out of his truck. I was about 75 feet in front of him and that was when he saw me in his headlights. I feared confronting him, since it was so early in the morning and still dark out. He jumped back into his truck and began backing up to the Sorenson’s property, turned and drove off. I heard Richard behind me, but as I turned, I found that he was on the ground. His health is deteriorating and his legs go out. His fear was that this stranger would attack me. I do not know where on Mr. Sorenson’s property he went, but he didn’t exit by the horseshoe road at Sebens Court onto Carl Road. (captured on security video)
On the 30th of December, 2006, Mr. Sorenson deemed it necessary to do “repairs” to my driveway by dumping gravel in a small dip in the road to make it easier for driving. I approached him and said that he wouldn’t have to be on my driveway if his wife would slow down her driving. He said that she probably wouldn’t listen to him. Yet, on the 31st of December, 2006, at 1:30 a.m., a small truck came down from his property screaming obscenities and threats at up (captured on security video). I tried to report this in person at the Sheriff's Dept. in Bellingham; nothing was done about it.
The Sheriff's Dept. keep telling us that we need to obtain licence plates of any vehicle that is harassing or causing problems. As I have told them, how can anyone jump out of bed at 1,2,3 o'clock in the morning to get a licence number. I also explained to a paralegal in the last few hours, that, yes I have surveillance cameras surrounding my property, but that doesn't mean that they have night time vizion capability, and that is what I keep telling the Sheriff's Dept.
It seems to boil down to apathy; IE, knowing something wrong exists and the justice system doing nothing about it. The spelling of Justice should read Just Us. Richard wrote a letter to Sheriff Elfo of Whatcom County Sheriff’s Dept. over a year ago and has not ever received a response back. I can only contribute this to the fact that Richard had been called crazy (481) over the dispatch during a past incident, which I heard over our scanner. I assure you that he is not 481 and resents that the law enforcement in Whatcom County can make up their own facts.
