King County Executive Ron Sims proposes a higher tax to boost Metro bus service.
The population is growing and Metro says, with rising gas prices and health care costs, it isn't keeping up. So King County Executive Ron Sims is proposing an increase in the county sales tax from 8.8% to 8.9%. Are you willing to pay? Do you see Metro as a worthy cause?
Behind the scenes, I have to wonder about the timing of Sims' proposing this for the November ballot. Voters were just asked to uphold the state gas tax. Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has already expressed his intention to put a property tax levy on the November ballot to repair city roads. Plus, there will be a viaduct question on that same ballot. Add to that, a regional transit tax that will be put to voters in 2007, and don't forget the Sonics are out there, asking for taxpayer support too. Is it just too much at once?
Ridiculous.
Look at Sonics performance.
Not just "no" but "HELL NO".
NOT FROM MY WALLET.
Regards.
We have to finally say NO, NO, NO.
Enough is enough!!
NO NO To The Sales Tax rate Increase.
For Metro NO! For schools YES!!!
