Germany's gay penguins raise chick

penguins.jpgTwo male Humboldt penguins at Germany's Bremerhaven Zoo are the proud new parents of a healthy chick.
The zoo reports that the pair were given an egg in late April after another couple threw it out of their nest.

They "took the Easter gift happily," and incubated it until it hatched, the zoo says in a statement.

"They behave exactly as you would expect from a heterosexual couple," the zoo says.
The statement goes on to say that "homosexuality in the animal kingdom is not uncommon," and "pair bonding in our world" does not always necessarily "have anything to do with procreation."
The zoo's three pairs of gay penguins first made news back in 2005 when they were observed in mating rituals and trying to incubate rocks.
