The Mariners have traded catcher Jamie Burke to the Washington Nationals for money. Hopefully, for Burke, he'll get a little more playing time with the Nats. Burke just faced a logjam of young Mariner catchers and Kenji Johjima. The M's official news release is after the jump.


MARINERS TRADE JAMIE BURKE TO WASHINGTON NATIONALS FOR CASH CONSIDERATIONS
Mariners send Burke to Nationals in minor league transation.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik announced today that he the club has traded minor league catcher Jamie Burke to the Washington Nationals for cash considerations.

Burke, 37 (turns 38 Sept. 24), spent a majority of the season with the AAA Tacoma Rainiers in the Pacific Coast League. He batted .284 (23x81) with 7 doubles and 11 RBI in 22 games. In two stints with the Mariners, he batted .122 (5x41) with one home run.

A veteran of 17 professional seasons, Burke has spent his last three in the Mariners organization. Burke batted .256 (63x246) with 11 doubles, 3 home runs and 21 RBI in 111 games with the Mariners.
