« Hasselbeck, Big Walt and Lofa Not Looking Good For Sunday? |Main| WHL: Spokane Chiefs season preview »
In an era where 3 straight losses brings out the "we need a new coach" crowd, it's good to see the Canucks end speculation on the immediate future of their head coach. Now, if Vancouver could just figure out which kind of team they want to be, then they can get past the 2nd round of the playoffs. Ever since Alain Vigneault took over as head coach, he's presided over a team with an identity crises. Did they still want to be the old West Coast Express style team with a Morrison/Bertuzzi/Naslund type of line leading the way? Or a team built on defense, goaltending, and a punishing physical style that has left plexiglass burns and a little blood on the faces of a few opponents. I'm glad they gave Vigneault an extension, he earned it for carrying a team who's all-star goalie missed half the season, then rallying them in the spring to another division title. In an era where NHL teams are changing players and coaches like you and I change socks, it's good to see the organization keep its head coach and key players. Let us see if it translates into more playoff success. |
