The Washington Huskies softball team wins the NCAA championship with a 3-2 victory over Florida. Danielle Lawrie pitches a six-hitter with seven strikeouts.
After Florida took a 2-0 lead in the first, the Dawgs came right back with two in the bottom half on a Lawrie single, then a wild pitch by Gators starter, Stacey Nelson. The Huskies added a third run in the third when Nelson dropped the Morgan Stuart comebacker with the bases loaded.
Florida had the tying run on second in the 7th inning, but Lawrie gets Ali Gardiner to strike out for the final out. The Huskies win their first NCAA title.
The team will return at 11:45 am on Wednesday, then bus to the UW softball field where the celebration will begin.
