Ask the Sounders

12:42 PM Tue, Apr 07, 2009 |

If you've always wanted to ask a pro athlete a question, but never could? Well now is your chance to do it. We call it "Ask the Sounders". It's your opportunity to ask the coaches or players a question about the game or anything else. We will take the top 3 questions. So put your questions in the "Comments" section. We'll "Ask the Sounders" your questions sometime this week.

This round of "Ask the Sounders" is for our fourth show. Sounders FC Weekly airs Sundays at 10:35 p.m. on KONG-TV.

Note: KING-5 and KONG-6-16 feel free to reword for clairity and conciseness.

I'm aware that Sounders FC use a great deal of video tape review in prepartions among the side (team) and sub-units therein. Am wondering if I as a casual fan am fully appreciating and understanding the depth and complexity of their teamwork.

For example:

Coach Sigi:

Freddy L's (first) goal against Toronto FC on April 4, 2009 appeared to develop and succeed within 60 seconds of the Sounders FC capturing possession of the ball. Is that correct ? If so is that representative of the speed of the game at the MLS professional level? Or am I missing something ... was the prior play(s) before that 60 second increment also instrumental in setting up Freddy L's excellent goal ?

Thank you greatly for helping to educate us fans.

For Freddie Ljungberg or Nate Jaqua:

Was the play that set up Freddie's goal in Toronto (the give-and-go) something that was worked on in practice or did it develop organically during the game?

For Kasey Keller:

Why does he wear the number "18" instead of the traditional goal keeper's number "1"?

Question for Goal Keeper Ben Dragavon:

What is it like to back up the greatest American goal keeper ever and what lessons have you learned from him that will help to improve you game?

For Osvaldo Alonso:
I love your game and hope you stay in Seattle for many seasons. If your level of play continues to improve I can see European teams trying to sign you. My question, do you have aspirations to play in Europe and if so how long do you think you will stay in Seattle before moving on?

We have noticed that goalkeeper Kasey Keller chews gum during the game. Why? ...and what brand is his preference?

You've done an outstanding job assembling this team. How valuable was your experience running the USL Sounders in that process?

Carlos said:

Sorry, my question above is for Adrian Hanauer.

Sigi, you said Steve Zakuani needs to build up his 90 minute endurance. Is a 90 minute pro game different than the college game?

For Sigi: In terms of loudness at Qwest Field, you've mentioned you'd have to come up with hand signals. Have you done that?

For Ljungberg:
How do you properly pronounce your name? I've heard Calabro pronounce it "Loonberg" and in the same game say it "Yoonberg". Are either of those even the correct pronunciation? Other people online say it's "Youngberg" or "Lunnberg" (with a "u" as in "run"). Please clarify, it's driving me nuts!
