Apple Cup moving?

10:37 PM Wed, Apr 15, 2009 |

According the Spokesman Review, that's a good posibility. That newspaper reports a deal is close to moving it to Qwest Field sometime after the 2009 season. Both teams would make $2 million each.

"Nothing is signed and there are no agreements, but they are talking and there are some negotiations going on." - Pullman Mayor Glenn Johnson from Spokesman Review

Financially, it's a great idea for both schools. They would make a lot more money off the game. But wouldn't the Apple Cup lose some luster?

Moving the Apple Cup to Qwest Field is a TERRIBLE idea. Supporters of both WSU and UW must act to STOP this insane idea.

I fully understand the need for more financial support of the universities' athletic programs BUT this is NOT THE WAY. The very special ambiance of the home field for each Apple Cup is critical to the alumni and supporters of each football program.

Moving the game, permanently, to Qwest Field, eliminated all of the special elements of the game and reduces it to a mere business decision - much like the reasons some support whores.

This is the worst idea I have ever heard of. What happened to home field advantage? Do not do this move. Bad idea.

I agree with you guys. You wouldn't have the 1992 Snow Bowl to talk about. I'm sure there are more memories from either Huskies or Cougars side of it. When I went to Wazzu, Ryan Leaf led the Cougars to a win and a berth to the Rose Bowl at Husky Stadium. That made it all the sweeter. I'm sure Huskies may talk about the 2002 win in Pullman. It takes the whole college experience away from the students. I hope it doesn't come down to a decision based on money.

This is a stupid idea.

I'm a true cougar transplant from the West Coast over 15 years go. I was born and raised in Seattle/Olympia. I'm a cougar grad, my two brothers are cougar grads, I'm a season ticket holder for who knows how long.... my 12 year old daughter has attended games since she was litterally 3 months old... Our family joke is that I'm "in love with Butch" even tho I am happily married, Butch was "my first love". I love fall time in Pullman, it is a culture and a way of life to attend a Saturday football game in Pullman. I am embarassed, angry, sad and stunned by this announcement from WSU!!!! The fans and students have paid for a remodel of Martin Stadium, for what??? Now we won't use it for the most important game. The best game of the year will move??? This last year the joke was that the Apple Cup was the "Toilet Bowl" because let's face it, neither team had a great year. If it goes to Seattle every year, then count me out and flush the game and sport down the Toilet Bowl!!! WSU is getting commercialized. What about the school and team spirit??? I am embarassed for our university to even think about this. Boooo!!!
