Mora or Zorn? Which Jim would you prefer?

9:24 AM Wed, Oct 08, 2008 |

It's an argument in hindsight and one that's easy to make: Doesn't it just make sense to have Mora as the Huskies coach and Zorn as the Seahawks'? The Seahawks secondary, which Mora coaches, is floundering. Zorn and the Redskins are rolling. And we all know about the last four years at Montlake. Just think about the energy Mora would infuse at the UW.

Consider the transformation of Skins QB Jason Campbell, thanks to Steve Kelley at the Seattle Times. Since Zorn took over as head coach of the Redskins, Campbell's rating is 96.7. After tossing 17 INTs in the first 20 games of his career, Campbell doesn't have any this season. And Matt? Last season Hasselbeck threw 27 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions with a rating of 91.4. Since losing his QB coach? Two TDs, four INT and a rating of 57.7.

The argument makes for a great newspaper column. But so far, no one has a magical rewind button. Yet who would the 12th Man choose to control the Seahawks sidelines? Zorn? Or Mora?

Jim Zorn, I have been a fan form the start of the Seahawks...

The knee-jerk reaction would be Zorn because he's 4-1 with the Redskins and because of his Seahawks ties. But remember, Jim Mora took the Falcons to the NFC title game in his first season, then failed to even post a winning record the next two.
The fact is, the Mike Holmgren coaching tree for the most part has been successful. Jon Gruden won a Super Bowl. Andy Reid has been there and to the NFC title game four times with the Eagles, and that was without ever being a coordinator before getting the head coaching job. Jim Zorn is a branch of Holmgren that tree, so I'd lean towards him just due to plain old history.

You know my feelings on this. I posted this exact question in a response to your "Why are the Seahawks 1-3" post.

Zorn would be my pick. He's got the complete package.

Mora's misques scare me (just look at how he left Atlanta). And his pathetic job of coaching our DBs this year is not helping matters!
