Ask Mike Holmgren a question

1:21 PM Fri, Oct 03, 2008 |

It's Friday again, which means it's time for the Ask Mike Holmgren post. Here's the drill: if you have a question for coach Holmgren, leave it in the comments section below (our producers need your questions by halftime of the Giants game). Then watch The Mike Holmgren Show on KING/5 right after NBC's Sunday Night Football, and see if coach answers your question. And don't forget to leave your first name and the city where you live.

Hi Mike, I am wondering why the cornerbacks seem to play so soft? I see teams with the bump and run frequently stopping our receivers successfully using this method on go and timing routes.

Hey coach, traveling on the road to the East Coast, what is the most difficult aspect to overcome for the coaching staff and players. The time difference, plane ride, or sleeping in a different bed?

Hey Coach, you said last week you like to get out and ride your motorcycle. What do you ride?

What happed to the Seahawks defense!? 2 years ago they were one of the PREMIER units in the league. Now they are giving up huge plays every single week and they are not making the big plays (INTs/FFs) that they we are used to them making.

What happened to our defense...especially in the first half? I thought the defense was the strength of this team at this point??

Robyn in Renton said:

Why aren't we using T.J. Duckett for our short yardage situations today? It seems like we have a weapon we are not tapping into...

You travel on a Friday to the East Coast. Have you considered going on Saturday, and getting an extra practice in at home?

Coach-

What is it going to take to motivate your team to dig out of the 1-3 whole you have built with some tough opponents coming up?

Thanks,

Jay

Mike,

The Giants didn't have to adjust very much in this game to be successful. Our defense was not making plays. How did you try to adapt and why didn't it work today?

What went wrong today?

Mike,

Go Seahawks!! Can't win them all and it was a ugly game, but I'm never giving up on my Hawks. No matter how tough and frustrating as it gets, gotta keep your head up and finish the season strong and make the playoffs. We're obviously struggling on both sides of the ball. But the D has got to make some stops!! Any chance we look into getting another shut down corner to replace Jennings? He may have played well last year but he has not held his own, along with a few others. But Jennings sticks out. He has been getting beat weekly.
And where was John Carlson?? He's a first down getter, and we didn't have very many of those!

Hi Mike,

Where's the Defense?? Where's the Offense?? Any chance we get another shut down corner to replace jennings?? He has been getting beat weekly and it is killing us. Why can't we get off the field???

What's wrong with the defense. It's given up an average of 31 pts. a game so far which is unacceptable. What can be done to fix it if anything before the season is hoplessly lost?

Mike it is time to bow out. Quit making offense calls. You are a great choach.

Coach, The first four games has shown a weakness at defensive back, aside from questionable (touchy) penalties, could our struggles be attributed to the fact that our DB's have not practiced against top profile receivers because of injury? or is it more or less defensive schemes with individual player breakdowns?

mike williams said:

coach,do the hawks need younger, faster, stronger players that can catch the ball then make great plays after, also make great defence plays. thanks.

Jeremy said:

Coach you seem to make such conservative calls that you don't seem to be trying to win. In third and long a draw is not a likely candidate for a first down is it? Why do we pick up a guy like Robinson that is very athletic and then throw a 5 yard pass to him? I am ready for a new young coach who will
make calls to win the game. This year looks to be over already.

mike williams said:

coach, is frye the right back up quarterback for the hawks. He's really not that good?????

mike williams said:

coach, since this is your last year do you not mind how bad the hawks do,it seems you don't get as upset or yell at the players like in the past when they don't make the plays they should.

mike williams said:

coach,do you think the hawks will win another game this year or will they end up like the dolphins last year

Steve Webster said:

Coach, It seems obvious that you are imitating the movie "Shane" where when you ride off into the sunset we don't know if your dead or alive. Any chances of you handing the reins over before next year? Thoughts?

Jason Sturm said:

With the injuries to Matt, did that change your philosophy of your play call going into the game? Jason from Kent

Steve Webster said:

Coach, Do you think that you recent loss of weight also shrunk your balls to the degree to loss your ability to call a ballsy play. Thoughts?

Chris said:

Coach, what do you think the outlook for the rest of the year will look like?

Rainer Elliott said:

Coach,
It appears that during the offseason the Seahawks made no attempts to bolster their receiving game. Engram was left to be the only guy out there other than Nate, and we all know Dion isn't ever healthy. So, why oh why didn't we go after Bernard from the Bears in the offseason or Stallworth, or anyone? Looks like the cowboy just signed Roy Williams. My question is really this, how can you ignore the fact that Seattle can't contend for a championship without receivers?

mike w said:

boy,do they ever "STINK"

Steven Webster said:

Coach,

Do you think the Buccaneers cheerleaders are better looking than the Seagals? Thoughts?

Steve Webster said:

Coach,
Is their a problem with the leadership from the coaches and the players?

Coach,
I am trying to hold out hope for the rest of the season but it seems to be dwindling. Is their anything you have ever wanted to do as a head coach before you turn in your clip board?

mike williams said:

that was alot better, still need lots of work on stopping the other teams 3rd down conversions. those seem to really be hurting the hawks the most wouldn't you say,but i quess everybody can't stop them all. GOOD JOB to all the hawks!!!!

Bobby said:

How did you manage to injure all of your receivers, your running back, your quarter back, your star left tackle, defensive end, middle linebacker, well basically your entire team. last year Shean Alexander had difficulties with injuries on your team, and i watched him play against the lions this year and he was running very hard. He got stopped fairly fast, but he made a lot of people missed and fought for every inch.

whatever said:

why is it the hawks always have a chance, then completly blow it!!! what a shame..
