M's designate Baek for assignment

7:58 PM Wed, May 21, 2008 |

Thanks for the effort, but the M's designated pitcher Cha Seung Baek for assignment after Wednesday's game. So just like Brad Wilkerson and Greg Norton, the Mariners have ten days to trade Baek and/or put him through waivers and hope he returns to Tacoma. The Seattle P-I's blog insinuates that the M's would like Baek back if he goes unclaimed. Oh, by the way, U.S.S. Mariner makes a funny, but sarcastic remark about starting Jamie Burke today. The M's official Baek press release is after the jump.

MARINERS DESIGNATE RHP CHA SEUNG BAEK FOR ASSIGNMENT Corresponding Move Expected Prior to Thursday's Game.

DETROIT, Mich. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Bill Bavasi announced after tonight's game that the Mariners have designated right-handed pitcher Cha Seung Baek for assignment.

Seattle now has 10 days to trade, release, option or assign Baek outright to the minors. With this roster move, the Mariners now have 38 players on the Major League 40-man roster.

Baek, 27 (turns 28 May 29), appeared in 10 games, making one start. He went 0-1, 5.40 (18 ER, 30.0 IP). Baek appeared in each of the first two games in Detroit, including tossing 3.0 shutout innings Wednesday night (3.0 IP, 2H, 1 SO). Tuesday night, Baek allowed six hits (3 HR) and four runs in 2.0 innings in his first appearance in eight days. He is 10-9, 4.96 in 37 games/24 starts over parts of four seasons with the Mariners. The native of Pusan, Korea was originally signed by the Mariners as a non-drafted free agent on Sept. 25, 1998.

Mariners starting pitchers combined to pitch a total of 6.1 innings in the first two games of Seattle's current 3-game series in Detroit, while Seattle's bullpen has tossed 9.2 innings, including 5.0 by Baek.

The M's suck from the top down.. What a wasted disappointing season..

We need to make moves but we always tend to just sit on our butts hoping for the best.. When can we get a Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz or an A rod?

You had A-rod....remember???? no one wants to to play for those shitty teams in the northwest.
