Got a phone call and then saw this on the TNT: Seahawks kicker Josh Brown has told KJR radio that he's 100% gone from the team. The story comes from KJR's Dave Mahler, who spoke with Brown and asked the percentage chance that Brown would be back. Mahler reportedly got a text message from Josh saying that he won't be back. Stay tuned, we'll let you know more about the kicker's future when we do. Update: Here is a link to the story on KJR's website. It's an interesting read. KJR says the Seahawks told Mahler they were prepared to make Brown the highest paid kicker in the NFL, but Brown turned down the offer. 28 Comments |
J. Brown, STL Rams...?
How sad and ironic that would be... :(
Their kicker, Wilkins, did announcement retirement today, I think.
If Josh Brown says good bye despite the money, then let him go his way. There are a few good kicker in the draft that will just have to do at this point for the Seahawks, should this be true. Too bad though, he was Mr. Clutch so many times for Seattle.
No F****ing Way !!!!
Man, This Sucks !!!
Be that as it may though, Professional sports are like any other business, people come and go...
Oh Well, Thanks Josh.....
" What can Brown do for you " ????
This makes you wonder what happened between Brown and the Seahawks management if Brown indeed did turn down that monster contract. "What did they do to Brown?"
Very sorry to hear that Josh will be leaving the Seahawks. He has been a wonderful spokesperson for raising awarness and LOTS of money for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. I am sure he will continue to spread the message no matter what team he ends up on. Josh you will be missed and thanks for the 5 years you gave Seattle. I will continue to call you my favorite kicker even if you are not a Seahawk anymore.
The Hawks would have made him the highest paid kicker in the NFL!!! What the heck did Josh want??? This does not make any sense...It seems like there is something major going on over there right now and I cannot put my finger on it.
Josh you've given us the best years of your career and we thank you for that much. The only question I have left to ask you is Why?
You know what? I don't freaking care. You know why? BECAUSE THE FOOTBALL SEASON IS FREAKING OVER, THAT'S WHY!!!!
Jesus Freaking Christmas, man. Give it a freaking rest already. I used to love the game but now can't stand it as it's filled with a bunch of overpaid criminals, the bastion of degenerate gamblers and it's all every sports talk show and television show talks about. It's freaking football 24/7/365 and I'm freaking sick of hearing about it.
Check it out? Did you know that Seattle has a baseball team as well? Absolutely!! They're called the Mariners and guess what else? It's freaking baseball season now, so how's about putting a freaking sock in it regarding football and start talking about a sport THAT'S IN FREAKING SEASON!!!!
Talk about football all you want, say around next August as that's when the season starts up again. Step back from the computer and take a break, if you can't talk about anything else but football. Baseball is now the sport of record and there is plenty to talk about, so do so. Please.
GOD ALMIGHTY I CAN'T FREAKING TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! SHUT THE HELL UP ABOUT FOOTBALL ALREADY!!!!
Money doesn't always buy happiness. He probably wants to be closer to home and get out of this rainy dreary smell hole

I'll tell ya what they did Ken. They shorted his electric pants warmers!
Josh has a great soul and a good person. He is in no way a "greedy" person. He would have been very grateful for the highest paid gig in the NFL. Something is very wrong here. I don't think this has anything to do with money. Something is not right here and it smells of management.
You have got to be kidding me? With Josh going, so goes any chance we have of making the playoffs. He saved our butts so many times, without him...I just don't see it happening.
Too bad for us. I'm sorry, but the Hawks should have given him what he wants. You can't define clutch any more clearly. Now we all have to hope and pray that he doesn't get a chance to beat us in the same manner we've seen time and time again. Oh, and hope he stays out of the NFC west. Good luck Josh, someone will give you what you are worth.
Big deal let him go somewhere else he's just a KEEKER. Now maybe they can get Trufant under contract and get a real running back. Good riddance
Josh,
Please speak your mind!! Let all your fans know what the Seahawks management did!!!!!!!!!! We atleast deserve that!!!!!!!!!!
What an ingrate. And what a rude way to leave. If the Seahawks did something so terrible he should be telling the world instead of just slinking off.
It's a business. He's the best, but if he wants to go, let him go.
Getting emotionally attached to these athletes is foolish. They have to make as much money as they can, their careers (on average) are not very long and the post medical problems can be extensive.
I wish him well.
Josh Brown is a class act, so isn't it possible that he simply puts more value on a new start with a new team in another city over being labeled the highest paid kicker? Besides, how long will he own that title?
A kicker with medical bills. That is funny. It is not like he is an offensive lineman!!!
Kickers can be replaced but a guy like Marcus Trufant?
It was either lose Josh or Marcus.
Hmmmmm Lets see which one??? Good bye Josh.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am outraged at this! The Seahawks were prepared to make him the richest kicker in the league. He had a chance to stay with a winning team and a super bowl contender, but he chose to go to our biggest rival, and a team that we play twice a year! I don't so much blame the organization as I DO blame Brown himself. He was clutch and won many games for us, I will give him that. But leaving "your team" for a division opponent, for not that much more money is absurd. I've lost what little respect I did have for this sell-out of a ball thumper. So have fun in St. Louis Brown, I hear its beautiful...
Truly sad to see him go.
Josh has character, Did ya see him tackle? So funny! He was my favorite guy on the Hawks squad. He is friendly, treated everyone great and a down right country boy. I have had the honor of meeting him and he has a great smile for everyone. Hope his career soars to the top. He will always be my favorite kicker. I agree with something not being right..as others have written.
Kick on Josh!
xo
I agree with all the folks that respect Josh Brown for all he has done for the Seahawk organization and fans as well. However, it does seem as if there is something that happened behind the scene that we are hearing.
Why would we not want to do whatever it takes to keep Josh? He has proven that having a dependable foot, with guts and desire is a huge value. He did bring a rare element of toughness to the position...but he also went through a small slump this last season so maybe that hurt his stock somewhat. I don't know....I would have kept him!
If I can make $3M a year and get to spend at least half my time in a climate-controlled area I'd take it. I don't think anything happened between Brown and management. Loyalties aren't worth a whole lot any more. If that were the case wouldn't Trauffant be signed already? I wish Brown luck, just not against the Seahawks, and know we will sign a quality kicker.
Anybody remember the Hutch story? First Hutch and now Josh. Sounds to me that we are loosing the wrong guys. What the hell is the front office thinking? I sure hope they have a good game plan now, they are going to need it in the worst way.
Michael
Brown is a whiny kicker. They are a dime a dozen. Sure he won us some games, but he also lost some too. He isn't the best kicker in the league, but he is an ego-maniac. He was a rockstar up here. Everybody loved him. He had weekly spots on TV and radio. Hope he has fun with the sorry-ass Rams(2nd worse record in the league), and being just another anonymous kicker in the league. It will also be nice to not have to see every team we kick off to having their drives starting out past the 30.
Sure wish JB had decided that loyalty and personal integrity was more important than the almighty dollar. Reminds me of how the Colts snuck out of Baltimore back in 1984 in the middle of the night in a Mayflower moving van because they got a better offer in Indy. Oh well. Everyone can be replaced.
I mean cmon this is a state run by 3 feminist bimbos. feminist governor, and 2 feminist senators...the only state in the US with 3 feminists running it...I dont blame him for wanting to get the heck out. want change? DUMP GREOIRE, DUMP MURRAY, DUMP CANTWELL
