Top Ten: #7 Eastern Standard Time

11:21 AM Mon, Oct 29, 2007 |

I am just now getting over the Husky Hangover, and could not muster a football blog this weekend. Thus, I will pick up the pace and get the countdown to #1 going.

#7: EST will play a critical role in the 2007 Hawks campaign. The trip to Cleveland on Sunday will be the tone-setter for three East Coast trips to follow. Philadelphia, Carolina and Atlanta all linger on the schedule, and though those teams' records may not be daunting now or even when they actually match-up, those 5+ hour flights and time zone changes define daunting.

Understand, in each of those cases, the team leaves the Kirkland facility around noon Friday, hops on the bus and plane, and lands in each of those east coast cities after further bus rides around 10 p.m. Eastern. Saturday is a day of light practice and lots of meetings, and Sunday morning the alarm may go off at 7:30 on the hotel clock, but the Seattle player's clock is 4:30 a.m.

The Seahawks are a veteran team and many of the players have been down these roads before. However, understanding the demands versus executing the game-plan are very different entities. Let's hope the east coast trip to Pittsburgh last month is no indicator of future east coast success.

The answer to the above is to leave Seattle earlier. Now that wasn't too hard to figure out. We're talking a 3 hr diff. There is no jet-lag in a cross country flight. Leqve earlier and get to bed instead of what ever they do. Then on Sat they can fall into their routine.

At least they will get what they could consider an extra hour of sleep Sunday morning thanks to Daylight Savings time.
In the long term they should adjust their schedule like Mike said.
