Jim Mora joins the Seahawks

12:42 PM Mon, Jan 22, 2007 |

The former Atlanta Falcons head coach, who was fired at the end of the season, has joined the Seahawks as the assistant head coach. His job description will include the secondary -- Teryl Austin coached Seattle's defensive backs last season but just took a job in Arizona. Mora attended high school here and played for the Huskies as a DB from 1980-83. He said he's excited to come back to Seattle, and he told his son that "I've never considered any place else to be home." Welcome, Jim.

The moment that I heard that Atlanta had let Jim go...I wanted Seattle to hire him...for ANY position AVAILABLE OR MAKE ONE UP!! I am extremely happy with this hire and now I can't wait until the start of the 2007 season! I believe that Jim is an excellent coach in all aspects and will bring a freshness and an energy to our team that will propel us back to the promise land without a doubt! Jim WELCOME HOME! GO HAWKS!!!!!!

Yes!!!! Finally a decent secondary coach to take the place of Teryl Austin. We will see a huge difference in our DB's from the start.

I am very excited for this. It will be nice to have Mora here when/if Holmgren does retire. They ought to make Mora Defensive Co. and get rid of Marshall.

Wow when I first heard Mora was comming to coach the seahawks i found it to be the best of both worlds. In immidiate future we get a proven defensive coach that can fix one of the weakest positions on the seahawks. Im not as excited about that as i am for the future. Having Mora on board makes him a great candidate for when Mike steps down. Giving him a year or two to get used to the organization is a perfect steping stone for the job i hope he is going to recieve in two years. If the hawks did it the traditional way we would search for a guy to plug in right away and hope he is a good coach. With the Mora hiring we get a quallity head coach waiting in line. This is a great hire and it shows the smarts of the front office and why the hawks have a great chance to be the class of the nfc for a long time

Liz,

Did you think that one up yourself? Wow I am impressed, you really know how to insult us Seahawks fans. Too bad you talk out of both ends. An old Chinese proverb says, "It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and prove it." You just proved it!

Hawker37,

I would have to agree with you on Liz. She is really annoying and has no purpose in these blogs, she should get out while she can!

I would think that we should see some more improvement in the Huskies program this fall. The UW program was about as far down as it ever has been. We should see how strong Coach Willingham's recruiting classes are come this 07 season. Dawg's have been down for too long...time to step up and contend again.
