Taking a collective breath

9:34 AM Tue, Oct 31, 2006 |

Many of the recent posts have been stressing over the Seahawks current predicament. So I decided to take a step back. Am I fooling myself thinking the Hawks are going to be okay? Take a look at the two main reasons I believe the team is going to make the playoffs with home field advantage: the NFC West and the schedule. What's ahead: Raiders, Rams, at 49ers, Packers, at Broncos, at Cards, 49ers, Chargers, at Bucs. A combined 26/38. On paper, the only difficult teams the Hawks face ahead are: the Rams (here), Broncos (away) and Chargers (here). Take those teams away, and the rest are a combined 12/31. And the next four? With Matt healing and Shaun returning? Well, three of those games are home games, with only the 49ers away. Compare that to the Rams schedule: Chiefs, at Seahawks, at Panthers , 49ers, Cards, Bears, at Raiders, Washington and at Minnesota. Which schedule would you rather face? Which team is better? If the Hawks aren't NFC West Champs again, there are bigger issues than waiting an extra week to make sure Shaun's foot is ready for the rest of the season.

Agree with your analysis of the schedule and propects for making the playoffs. But let's discuss the play of the defence. Watching the KC game actually made me physically ill. This is the defending NFC champion. Do not remember seeing that the defence had injury problems. Unless the defence steps up we have no chance of making it out of the first round.

good point but who would have counted on the lowly Raiders upsetting the SB champs. a win is not a win till it's a win. hawks shouldn't approach this next game with overconfidence especially with no running game and a backup QB.as jack nicholson sez there are no sures except death and taxes.

I fear this is the season to forget. I've never seen the odds stack up so fast against a team. From injuries, to blowout losses.. it may be time to chalk this season up. Even our weak division may not save us this year.

Why are we Seattle fans so fickle and negative? I mean come on! Every team has set backs be them injuries, bad games, or front office miscues. Dont look for excuses, dont try and explain away the pain, and dont pack up your pride and call it quits for the season. Regardless of who is playing, the team out there on the field is our team, SEATTLE's TEAM! Quit crying about last week or how poor our defense was/is. Ive always been of the mindset that it is a waste of time to worry about things that are not in your control. So save your breath and spare your self a case of carpel tunnel and just support the team. After all it could be worse, at least we dont have to call our selves Cardinals fans. Win or lose in any fashion I will support the hawks. Besides im used to it, Im a Husky fan too!

WOW! IT'S GREAT TO SEE SO MUCH BLOG RESPONSE ABOUT OUR TEAM! I THINK ONE THING THAT HELPED US LAST YEAR WAS TO FACE EVERY GAME LIKE IT WAS THE ONLY ONE OF THE SEASON, OR A PLAYOFF GAME. IT DOES'NT MATTER WHAT PEOPLE LOOK LIKE ON PAPER...ANY TEAM CAN BEAT ANOTHER ON ANY GIVEN DAY IN THE NFL. JUST THINK HOW THE SPORTS WORLD WOULD'VE REACTED IF THE CARDS HAD'NT CHOKED AWAY THE 4TH QUARTER TO THE BEARS! WE NEED TO REMEMBER, EVEN IF WE HAVE THE RAMS AT HOME NEXT, AND THAT'S OUR GREATEST TEST IN THE WEST, WE VERY NEARLY LOST TO THEM, EXCEPT FOR A BEAUTIFUL LAST SECOND KICK BY JOSH. EVEN WHEN WE GET SHAUN AND MATT AND CHOP, ETC. BACK, OUR TEAM NEEDS TO GET AQUAINTED AGAIN WITH THE CHANGE IN BOTH THEIR GAMES. THE RUNNING STYLE OF MO, AND THEY STYLE OF SENECA ARE BOTH MARKEDLY DIFFERENT FROM OUR #1 GUYS, AND THE PATCHWORK LINE WILL HAVE TO ADAPT. NONE OF THIS IS MEANT TO BE PESSIMISM, BUT WE HAVE TO BE REALISTIC. NOBODY WOULD RATHER SEE US COME OUT MONDAY NIGHT, STOMP THE RAIDERS, AND THEN RUN THE TABLE AGAINST THE REST MORE THAN ME! AND I AGREE WITH THE LAST POST...WE ARE THE BEST!!! GO...HAWKS!!!!!

SPEAKING OF OUR DEFENSE, ANYONE REMEMBER "DARBY'S DAILY DOSE" LITTLE DIARY STYLE NOTE ON SEAHAWKS.COM FROM LAST SEASON? WHERE'S CHUCK'S OUTSPOKEN LEADERSHIP BEEN THIS SEASON? HE SEEMED TO BE OUR LEADER FROM SUPER BOWL EXPERIENCE LAST YEAR, WHO STARTED THE "BROTHERHOOD" IDEA OF OUR TEAM'S CLOSE KNIT PLAY, AND THE BLACK SKULL DOO-RAGS THE GUYS WERE WEARING. SEEMS LIKE WE NEED THAT KIND OF APPROACH AGAIN. SOMEONE WHO IS RESPECTED NEEDS TO STAND UP AND TAKE CHARGE FOR US!!!
