How many Seahawks fans -- season ticket holders or not -- really plan to attend that other football, when MLS starts at Qwest Field? Is the venue simply too big for Pelé's Beautiful Game, or does the stadium fall under the "if you build it..." category? As Houston Dynamos GM Oliver Luck said, "...there's nothing worse than 15,000 people in a 72,000-seat stadium. That's been proven over and over by MLS teams." Yet MLS president Mark Abbott told the TNT, "Seattle was to be able to create in Qwest Field a number of the advantages that we were able to achieve in soccer-specific stadiums." Specifically, using only the lower bowl of The Qwest Field, faking a 25,000-seat stadium. With something like 11,000 season-tickets sold, there is certainly a low-grade buzz about the Seattle's new MLS team. But will the 12th Man go? 7 Comments |
its good man, you should take yourself to a game there, maybe one of the us open cup games. the set up is less gestapo than when you go to a seahawks game and the fan clubs provide some good cheer and a hearty atmosphere. of course this will probably change now that paul allen is running things, the cost of everything is gonna go up and individual freedoms are going to be limited.
I don't particularly care.
NO. No one cares about soccer now or every will in this country. Unless, of course, we continue to allow illegal's to come into our country at record numbers. But thats a whole other subject. Soccer sucks and will never catch on here, PERIOD.
i believe football (soccer) will be a great hit here in seattle. i know i've been waiting for the day when i can watch professional players instead of UW soccer here in the city. i know plenty of people who feel the same way. I also want to give a shout out to my long time friend ELY ALLEN, soccer Player for UW which got drafted to the LA Galaxies, im looking forward to seeing him and all the other big names in my own backyard here in seattle!!!!
I remember the great run the Seattle Sounders had back in the 70's and 80's. I was among the several thousand season ticket holders during that run. The old NASL team used to fill the Kingdome to near capacity.
The current version of the Sounders are just as fun to watch too!
Unfortunately for soccer, the NASL was mismanaged by a bunch of idiots and tarnished the game for many people here in the USA. It has taken many years to rebuild the fan base but I believe soccer is here to stay. And if you don't believe it, then spend a Saturday or Sunday on the local field's watching a youth soccer program! The excitement generated by a new MLS team in Seattle has produced over 11,000 season ticket reservations, I'm one of them.
I look forward to the coming rebirth of professional soccer in the Seattle area. Anybody that thinks this game is just for the rest of world is not a true sports fan!
It's soccer people, nobody cares!!!! Soccer will never, NEVER catch on in the states--you can't use your hands and its too freakin' boring!!!!
The sport totally sucks!! If you want to run, go running!! If you want to run outside on a football field, then put on some pads!! Soccer is for runners that kick a ball around, attempting be athletic, for what amounts to about as much excitement as watching paint dry!!!! Soccer SUCKS!!!! Always has and always will. What a waste of time, energy and a perfectly good (and real) football field!!!!!!!!!!
