Foxsports.com reports that the Seahawks have tabbed Jim Mora to be the team's next head coach. Current head coach Mike Holmgren has said next season will be his last season. Foxsports.com's insider Jay Glazer says the soon-to-be promotion comes with a contract extension. No doubt, we'll hear something from the Seahawks about it, soon. So the Hawks are promoting from within. I guess it's the en vogue thing to do. The Colts are doing it. Jim Caldwell will take over for Tony Dungy when he's finished coaching at Indy. In college hoops, Bobby Knight just retired and passed his job onto his son, Pat. You can't forget that's what happened over at Wazzu, too. Update: The Hawks have called a noon press conference on Wednesday. So watch KING 5 news at noon or keep an eye on our website. We'll either have it on the noon news live or stream it live on KING5.com. Update #2: ESPN's John Clayton tells us it's a 5-year deal. He'll become the head coach in 2009. Again, watch KING 5 news at noon Wednesday or log on to the web KING5.com to see the Hawks press conference. 5 Comments |
This is no new story, i'm sure this has been the whole plan from the get-go eversince mora picked to come to seattle in the first place knowing the fact that Holmgren's contract would be expiring sooner than later.I'm actually glad that Mora will take that position since he already has a year under his belt here in seattle and by then he will know the ups and downs of the team. I can't wait for the 2008 season to start already.
I think this is a great thing to do. Not only is Mora dedicated to Seattle, but he already has a year to get a feel for the system and its players. The only thing that was a downer about the Glazer article, is that he brought up the RACIST Rooney rule. What a load of crap that rule is, it's the quota system plain and simple. The Colts didn't 'honor' the rule but oh yeah, his (the guy they plan to hire) skin color is of a darker hue. So, everything is ok and nothing is said. It's reverse racism at it's finest. To think, we've come so far as a nation to avoid choosing/judging by the color of a person's skin, yet we HAVE TO based on a rule that undermines the very idea of equality. Sad, but just a piece of the sad and truly pathetic 'PC' environment that we live in today. I hope Seattle wins it all next season. They have been so close the past three years. 08-09 will be the Seahawks time to win it all!!! Go Seahawks!!!!
Good Move, what the ach eee double hockey sticks are you talking about???
The double standard of trying to "maintain equality" by showing favortism in hiring practices. That is what the Rooney rule does. Rather than hire people based simply on their qualifications, at least one minority has to be interviewed. It mocks true equality and should be an insult to the person(s) that are interviewed based on that rule. I'm shocked Senior Hawker that you need this explained to you. You seem to be one of the more sensible people who post on this site. Should I stand corrected on that assumption?
I think what 'Good Move' is trying to get across is this: people should be judged by their qualifications and not by their skin color. Giving minorities a leg up just because of their skin color is a racist creed that this country has lived by for almost 50 years now. It's the unfortunate price white people pay for the sins of their fathers. Mabey one day everything will truly be equal. Until then, like 'Good Move' writes, we'll live in a PC world that does undermine equality. Truly sad.
