Holmgren blamed for Super Bowl loss

2:17 PM Sat, Feb 02, 2008 |

Ouch. Talk about taking a swipe at a former employee. Green Bay GM Ron Wolf told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Mike Holmgren's coaching was responsible for the Packers loss to the Broncos in SB XXXII. "Certain calls were to be made that weren't made," Wolf is quoted in the article. "Mike Holmgren refused those calls. There would have been an adjustment on the blocking scheme and it would have been over." Wolf goes on to blame Holmgren for being "pig-headed" and not listening to assistant coaches to stop the Bronco's blitzes. "I found this out about four years ago," Wolf said. "Two people told me about it that were in a position to know. I could tell you who they were but they wouldn't tell you. They were coaches." Whew. Someone still bitter?

As I said earlier the fish rots from the head first.
I have doubted his play calling and game day coaching.
I wish we had some new blood at the helm but O Well one more year of it.

Holmgren is a great coach. His record proves it.Wolf is just pouting, and trying to put the blame on someone. After all.....HE was the GM, not Mike. I think Holmgren will take the Hawks to the Superbowl next year, and we'll win. Just like we did against Pittsburgh. Go Hawks!

Not gonna happen

I agree
I don't like a lot of his play calling, I don't think he listens to his coaches enough during the game to make adjustments, He is pig headed he makes his game plan and he is sticking with it, even though the team we are playing are making adjustments to HIS game plan. He has always really been a quarterback coach and he admits he loves quarterbacks, I think he is more concerned about the play of the guy he has taken under his wing than the team as a whole

Well, I was going to comment, but after karnie's well-thought-out analysis, there would be no point.

seahawks lost to the packers this season because of poor pre game preperations, all on homgren! we practiced on packers field the day before the big day, teams need more practice in certain field conditions.

Gimme a break, Coach could have led the Seahawks to the 2008 Super Bowl, and these so-called fans would complain about something If they knew football the way they think they know football, they would be on the field, not Coach Holmgren or Tony Dungy.

another non-issue. the loser was usuallay outcoached, outplayed, and outsmarted by the winner. this is true in most every game the seahawks (coached by holmgren or not) won and lost. y'no, the season is over for the hawks. can we let it rest?

I guess the blog isn't getting as many hits as the king5 editors would like so it's time to: 'CREATE SOME CONTROVERSY' ersy.. ersy.... ersy....... ersy

Sour grapes. Now I wonder if the other 41 losing coaches couldn't be held accountable for the same problem. And I don't always agree with his play-calling; I don't with most other coaches either. Best coach Seattle has ever had.

Who really cares...Get over it...Mike Holmgren moved on. I think everyone else did too. Seattle football is so much better since he has been here. Seattle owes a lot to Homgren for what he has built here. Thanks Mike

Sounds like sour grapes to me, It's time to give Hilmgren a break! With Holmgren at the helm, this has been the BEST Seahawk team ever, will we ever make the Superbowl? Who knows? Maybe we're doomed to never have a World Series or Superbowl win to brag about.

Seeing the title of this blog post the day after the Superbowl was pretty misleading. I thought "huh? What does Holmgren have to do with the Patriots losing the Superbowl." Then I clicked on it and it become clear. Like cream cheese.

Bryce said:

Face it. Holmgren felt sorry for Elway choking all these Super Bowl games against the Niners at Wolf's expense.
