Hasselbeck: A Zorn or Holmgren creation?

6:43 PM Mon, Feb 11, 2008 |

That is the question being raised over in that other Washington as sports writers in the nation's capital try to figure out newly hired head coach and Seahawk icon, Jim Zorn. So, who deserves the credit for Matt's growth from boo-bird bullsye at Husky Stadium back in those days to the Pro Bowl moustache-wearing QB he is now? Quarterback guru Mike Holmgren or Zorn? Over at the Post, they're hoping hiring Zorn brightens Jason Campbell's future. Mike Holmgren has the larger resume, including two Hall of Famers -- Montana and Young (and Favre and Matt). Zorn gets credit for helping out Detroit's Charlie Batch (and Matt). So who (besides Matt) gets the credit for molding Matt into a Pro Bowler? Redskins fans and Seahawks fans may not vote for the same head coach.

Naw, Holmgren all the way.

Not even a debate. Writers in DC are just trying to figure out a way to justify the rediculous hire that Zorn is. I was puzzled with the inital offensive coord. position but head coach?? Matt is a product of Holmgren U.

Both. Holmgren is a QB's coach because he was one. Zorn spent more time on the fundamentals, but bottom line, Homgren set the schedule and learning curve that Zorn had to meet or exceed with Matt. All that being said, I said offhandedly to my wife when Gibbs retired, "I wonder when Zorn is going to make the move to Of Coordinator or head coach. He has the years of experience as a player and a teacher/coach."
I was in L.A. when he made Off Coord. and was bummed to lose him (Seattle guy and all) but I am jazzed to see him get his big chance. It's well deserved and I wish him the best.
