Seahawks vs. Packers, game log
Four minutes left and the Seahawks punt again.
The stinking continues. Seahawks go for it on fourth and ten, and Matt misses again. Eight minutes left. Packers take the ball.
Fourth quarter. Snow is really falling, as are the Seahawks hopes of winning this game. After a huge Grant run off the left side, and a roughing the passer against Hill, the Packers score again. GB is making the Seahawks defense look bad. Seahawks 20, Packers 42.
Seahawks stall in the redzone, after Pollard drops a sure touchdown pass. Josh Brown puts points on the board with a field goal. Now can the defense stop the Packers? Seahawks 20, Packers 35.
Ouch. Jackson gets a TD pass from Favre. The game is starting to get out of reach for the good guys. Seahawks 17, Packers 35.
Keep reading for the entire log.
Third quarter, the Seahawks go three and out and punt. Seems like Matt needs to stop complaining about the defensive holding and just play.
Halftime. I see two obvious things killing the Seahawks: Favre and the weather. Holmgren's determination that weather wouldn't be an issue sure was wrong. The Seahawks defense -- built on speed -- is sputtering because of the snow and turf, missing tackles because of the footing, and when they get a rush on Brett, his experience and sheer will wins out.
Grant into the end zone, after Brett Favre escapes a sure sack. Wow. Nearly tripping, he keeps his head up and makes an amazing pass. Vintage Brett. Seahawks 17, Packers 28.
Brett Favre and the GB running game is killing the Seahawks. No pressure at all on Brett, and he's making Seattle pay. We're at the two-minute warning. GB ball at the Seahawks 16 yard line.
Seahawks go three and out and punt. Except the Packers rough the kicker. 15 yard penalty. Seahawks first down.
Not the best way to start a quarter. The Packers score off the Pollard fumble, a Favre throw against the Seahawks blitz. Seahawks 14, Packers 21.
Second quarter starts with Marcus Pollard fumbling, the Seahawks first turnover in the game. Next play, Grant runs inside the 10-yard line.
Grant redeems the two fumbles and, after some nifty running, gets the short TD. Tie game, folks. Seahawks 14, Packers 14, still in the first quarter.
Green Bay gets the call on a coach's challenge, the refs respot the ball and GB gets a first down.
Packers are bringing the heat, and the snow is starting to stick. Seahawks fail to move the ball, and punt. Green Bay has the ball.
Favre moves the ball down the field, stepping up and avoiding the rush, and throwing for a TD. Jennings beats Jennings. Seahawks 14, Packers 7.
Play action froze the Packers defense, allowing Matt to hit Bobby Engram for a touchdown. Seahawks 14, Packers 0. Wow. What a beginning.
Deion Branch is down on the field, falling down after making a cut.
On Grant's second carry, he fumbles again. Seahawks recover.
On Brett Favre's first pass, Grant fumbles. Tatupu picks up the fumble, takes it to the one yard line. Shaun Alexander runs it in to take the lead. There's the spread. First blood, Seahawks 7, Green Bay 0.
First quarter, Seahawks Josh Scobey is injured on the opening kickoff.
Just a few minutes from the kickoff. I'll post the game log below. In case you missed it, the FOX crew each selected the Packers to win the game. As always, leave any of your thoughts about the game in the comment section below.

These announcers are so pro-Packers I'm about to turn off the volume. (Or switch the SAP on for Spanish).

Sharon, you are the parent! It is your remote! Take it and watch the game! But if it is tomorrow in Australia shouldn't you already know how the game will end?

Sharon, what time is there in Austraila? I say, take the remote too!

14-0 and this team can't keep a lead. This would be the time i think our coaching staff would come up with a good game plan. What a joke -5 yards total offense and we are now losing 21-14. Its happened all year we let teams back in a game I thought maybe things would be different know maybe they will win but it shows me they are the same hawks they have been all year. Better hope the packer fumble 10 more times.
Posted by: ray | January 12, 2008 2:36 PM
Well, the difference in the numbers so far (just before halftime) is rushing. Grant has 72 yards and Alexander and Morris COMBINED have 7.
Posted by: Cory | January 12, 2008 2:48 PM
if i was a coach i would take advantage of the over pursuit of Bigby and maybe throw deep down the middle. We are finally seeing that our defense is over rated because the beat up on poor teams. did we even force one punt. Did the coaches and players watch any film. Well hopefully this conservative boring coaching staff gets rearranged after this game so we lose this game. This staff has proven that they can't win big games or on the road, time for a change.
Posted by: unhappy fan | January 12, 2008 3:14 PM
no running game and no pass rush killing us. they need someone to step up a make a hit or two on Grant.
Posted by: Senior Hawker | January 12, 2008 3:18 PM
I'm with you 100%, Unhappy fan. The coaching staff is way too conservative, and needsto be rearranged. Starting with Holmgren. Jim Mora's style of offense is way more aggressive and fits into todays NFL. Mikes style is old and outdated. Everyone Knows whats coming every year and it IS time for a big change. We also should drop Shaun Alexander. He has proven that he is not worth the uniform that he puts on, we should cut our loses and trade him. Quickly while we can still get "some" value out of him, althouhgt I don't know who is going to pick up that insane contract. Which leads me to believe that they would probably cut him! We need to draft a running back. We should trade up in the draft and hopefully get somewhere in the top ten.

Who would have guessed our defense would totally let us down today? It wouldn't even help for the offense to come alive. Green Bay scores touchdowns with every possession. What a letdown.
Posted by: Dan | January 12, 2008 3:57 PM
I don't understand our pattern of choking on the big games... and Marcus Pollard - did someone pay him to throw the game? What's up with THAT? Right through his hands on a bulls-eye pass AND a fumble... which one's the inexperienced team????
Posted by: Frosty | January 12, 2008 4:00 PM
i hate everybody and everything right now
Posted by: bobert | January 12, 2008 4:05 PM
frosty! you don't understand why the sea c*cks lose big games? i'll tell you why, your team has no character. you also don't have a qb that can win big games. the only plays i saw hasself*ck make today was running to the refs begging for flags. who are you guys going to blame the loss on this time? the refs? go niners!
Posted by: wendell@iolmarketing.com | January 12, 2008 4:10 PM
Oh great, now the retards are coming out of the woodwork.
Posted by: Dan | January 12, 2008 4:12 PM
Too disappointed right now. Can't finish watching the game. What a major letdown.
Posted by: Brian from Tri-Cities | January 12, 2008 4:13 PM
hey dan! you know who the retard is? the loser that actually believed that the sea c*cks could actually come close to winning their first championship.
Posted by: wendell | January 12, 2008 4:16 PM
Looks like the Laurel and Hardy show in Green Bay.
The usual SeaHawk weak pathetic running game.
The usual not sure which team will show up bull
They never belonged in the playoff's
Posted by: Keith Lapointe | January 12, 2008 4:18 PM
great point keith, your team sucks. agreed.
Posted by: wendell | January 12, 2008 4:19 PM
Told ya! That's Marcus again! Butterfingers - or maybe he needs to have his eyes checked! (I'd still take him over Jerramy Stevens, though!)
Posted by: Frosty | January 12, 2008 4:22 PM
Bye bye Seachickens!!! You actually believed you were going to win didn't you guys? Awwww....how cute!
Posted by: A-ron | January 12, 2008 4:24 PM
Good point, Wendell! I'd discuss it further, but you know so many cool dirty words, I wouldn't have a chance at winning an argument with you. So I'll just let everyone feel sorry for you instead.
Posted by: Dan | January 12, 2008 4:25 PM
wendell-if your not a seahawks fan, then why are you reading/writing on their blogs? don't you have anything better to do with your time?
Posted by: meredith | January 12, 2008 4:25 PM
When are they gonna start telling shawn to knock off the bobbing and weaving crap, He doesn't have the speed anymore to fake someone out, And what about teach fundimentals in Tackling!!!!!
Posted by: Brian | January 12, 2008 4:27 PM
actually meredith, i'm here in front of a fire with a laptop and it's no trouble at all to read about the sea c*ck troubles. and no, i have nothing better to do.
Posted by: wendell | January 12, 2008 4:28 PM
wendell- oh your a niners fan, no wonder your so bitter.
Posted by: meredith | January 12, 2008 4:28 PM
What a disgrace. They didn't even score a TD on their own merit. I'm sure they will be the laughingstock of the NFL. Maybe it's time for Holmgren, Hasselbeck and (definitely) Alexander to go. There is so much talent on this team, but they lack the leadership.
Posted by: Lisa | January 12, 2008 4:29 PM
meredith: we're closer to winning our sixth than you are to winning your first. the sea hawks windows has officially closed.
Posted by: wendell | January 12, 2008 4:31 PM
Well, same old story. The Sehawks have become a group of underachievers over the last couple years. They really need to find someway to get rid of Alexander next year, even if it costs them. I can't beleive they let Hutch go and gave Alexander a big contract. Today was just as bad for the defense. When will they ever stop a team on 3rd and long?
Posted by: Mike | January 12, 2008 4:37 PM
Headline - Holmgren Fired! Hasselback and Alexander given unconditional releases. Pollard returns to basketball as he can't run or catch a football. Seahawks players return half their salaries as they can't seem to give a reasonable effort on road games. Soft coach and schedule results in disappointing season finish.
Posted by: Mark | January 12, 2008 4:37 PM
Hey Green Bay fans: Great win, you guys really domintated and proved your point. If you continue to post like other 'great' fans of Green Bay, you truly show your lack of class and the fact that you can't win without being f*cking losers. I hope that Dallas eats you guys up. Better yet, I hope your plane ride to Dallas ends up crashing--in other words, I hope all of you mother f*ckers die and rot in hell. There, that's a little sore losing for you. I know I'm dead wrong, but I'm pissed none the less. Go Dallas.
Posted by: morrell | January 12, 2008 4:39 PM
hmmm, i don't understand the blame being put on matt hasselbeck. he didn't play his best game, but overall he looked pretty sharp to me. the loss was a combination of the defense playing their worst game in several weeks, the conservative coaching, the lack of playmaking by the receivers, the piss-poor running game, and most importantly, the resilience and brilliance of the packers offense/defense. changes need to be made in the offseason. 4 straight division titles, but nothing more to show for it. it's a shame.
Posted by: James | January 12, 2008 4:42 PM
morrell = panzy hawk fan
Posted by: julie | January 12, 2008 4:42 PM
Good season, good run into the playoffs. Too bad it didn't go beyond today. Hats off to the Packers, they played a good game today. Hope they go far.
See ya next season.
Posted by: Brian from Tri-Cities | January 12, 2008 4:43 PM
We want the ball and we're gonna score! But nearly as much as Green Bay. Cry Seattle fans! It's awesome to see your transition from "We're the best no matter what anybody says!!!" *plug your ears* "LA LA LA LA LA" Now after you lose..."Well it was a hard faught battle...our coach sucks...our running game sucks..." I could have told you all that a LONG time ago!
Posted by: A-ron | January 12, 2008 4:47 PM
this game serves to show we definatly need a running game, this would include an offensive line that can run block.we can't win in bad weather depending totally on the passing game, anyone with half an ounce of brain would know that.they scored on almost every possesion 201 rushing yards. where was our running game????the running game usually opens up the passing game but they knew we had no running game so they focused on stoppng our receivers. we can never go very far in any playoff without a balanced attack.

All year people have talked about how Tim ruskell has built this awesom defense. Well it really isn't that awsom against good teams. I think all his moves have ruined this team. He made the mistake of re-signing Alexander to a stupid stupid contract when he had one good year (contract year Hmmmmmm.) He let Hutchison slip away (Idiot). Used our first round draft pick to draft an undersized non agressive corner (Jennings has good heart but shouldn't be a starter.) When the rest of the leagues great teams are using the Tight ends as one of the most important recievers on the field he goes and signs a guy that is way past his prime. We give up a first round draft pick for Deon Branch, Love the guy but Holmgren's Boring style of 5 and 7 yard passes doesn't allow him to out him to use his speed to outrun defenders on deep routes so he really doesn't it with this offense. Walter Jones is coming up on the end of his career and we haven't picked up any young guy for him to mentor, Ruskell thought he would be sneeky and get Burleson from the Vikings and signed him to a larger contract than he is worth. He is good but not worth his contract. So he has screwed the salary cap and our offense to build a defense that can do well against the weak west and at home. Other than 2005 the coaching staff has proven that they can't win on the road on a consistant basis, It's great the team gets excited at home but thats only half the games. Back to our defense, I think we have almost all the right player other than a couple but John Marshal has had some of the worst game planning I've ever seen. In games that we have to get pressure he has a game plan that applies none. His blitzes are very obvious when he walks the Linebackers up to the line he hardly ever stunts his D-line, everthing is run straight up the field. We are a small fast defense so out muscling teams doesn't work we need to move guys and keep offenses guessing. Yes we got pressure in some games but not against the better teams of the league. Our defense looks soft compared to the hard hitting defenses like Packers, Jaguires, and Steelers. With Tubbs always getting hurt maybe we need to go to a 3-4 to utilize our speed. Anyway it doesn't matter how good our defense is if our offense can't get as many yards as the opposing teams running back. Paul Allen quit paying coaches that can't adjust to the BIG PLAY offensive style the NFL has gone too. JIM MORA save this team. We didn't look like we even belonged in the biggest game of the year. Disapointing!!!!
Posted by: unhappy fan | January 12, 2008 5:01 PM
don't really know why a-ron has this impression that hawk fans think "we're the best no matter what". from my perspective, the fans have been pretty critical of the team and we've acknowledged the holes in our game. but if believing we're arrogant assholes makes your victory any sweeter, good for you. i guess being humble isn't really your strong suit.
Posted by: James | January 12, 2008 5:40 PM
THE SEAHAWKS ARE A DECENT TEAM WITH A DECENT QB. GREEN BAY IS A VERY GOOD TEAM WITH A VERY GOOD QB, NUFF SAID...BRET
Posted by: BRET | January 12, 2008 7:09 PM
Julie=shut your mouth woman. Let Morrell bitch. It's the sign of true fan scorned. At least he said congrats before losing his cool. Good grief.
Posted by: Packer Fan | January 12, 2008 7:49 PM
Shut up Julie. At least Morrell has the guts enough to say what everyone is feeling as a Hawk fan right now. Seattle got beat by the better team today. Who cares about playoff experience. The Pack was the better team. Bring on Dallas or NY.
Posted by: Packers 4 Life | January 12, 2008 7:53 PM
Wendell, you should be kicked off this blog right now! Honestly, havent you ever been taught if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all? What are you doing on this blog? You must be very, very bitter. Shut up and let the real 12th men speak! Yes, it was a horrible game for us. Eeryone had part in it. But, any true fan will stand behind their team! Go Hawks! Better luck next year! As far as you idiots, keep your rude, ignorant, idiotic comments to yourself! We don't want them here!
Posted by: darlakrn | January 12, 2008 8:05 PM
like I said in the other blog:I think your all full of sh@#! I'm not from Seattle but have been a fan for a long time. They are still my team and always will be. They have made it to the playoffs more times than many. Stop being sore losers! If you don't like'um suck it up and shut up! They are still the best West Coast Team! Now let's cheer for San Diego! By the way quit blaming Mike, Sean, Matt and defense, offense they did the best they could today! Hawks sorry we couldn't be there with you! We were in spirit though I'll keep my season tickets!
Posted by: nancy | January 12, 2008 8:46 PM
Nancy is right! Seattle did their best today. The team needs to grow to garner increased sponsorship$$$$ like the East coast teams. This will undoubtely raise the player and coach salaries and quality so their "maximum" effort results in "Super" results!
Posted by: J.T. | January 12, 2008 8:54 PM
Thanks J.T. good point!
Posted by: nancy | January 12, 2008 9:02 PM
hey A-ron. Shut up! ok you won good for you. but you don't have to get mean about it. damn. were going to get it next year. right now all of us in seattle are hurting from the lost. get off our backs. we played our hardest out there and that's what matters. that's good enough for me. playing you're hardest, having a great time even if the odds are against you. you know i"m going to laugh when the packers don't make it to the superbowl.
