Packers favored by 8 points

The NFC Divisional playoff game will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. pst at Lambeau Field. The opening line has Green Bay favored by eight points, with an O/U of 40. Ouch. Oddsmakers must not like the Seahawks defense.

As far as the week, Holmgren will hold his normal Monday press conference tomorrow afternoon (you can check it out at Seahawks.com). The team will then practice Tues., Wed. and Thurs. and fly out to Green Bay on Friday. Personally, I think the 1:30 start time helps the Seahawks. Travelling east with a 10:30 start would've been difficult. Also on the Seahawks side, Matt has played in GB before (and in the playoffs), Holmgren is practically at home (he has that street named after him), and the Seahawks leaders are more seasoned (sans Favre). Eight point spread? Man, I'm not sure if I agree with the oddsmakers.

I am GB fan and I agree 8 is a lot of points. There are a ton of stories for this week due to the connections of the two franchises...One thing to note...GB has more than just Favre with Playoff experience. Most of their starters have seen a game or two. 7 offense,6 defense. And this week they have the 12th man. But Lambeau has not been kind to GB in a long time in the playoffs. Turnovers, weather and special teams will decide this game. 3-5 for the hawks on the road can not be conforting with wins against Rams,49ers, Eagles. Should be exciting...I want to see the 5 receiver set against Josh Wilson, Babineaux, Trufant, Jennings. I know who Favre will pick on.

I live in Washington and I hate the Seattle Seahawks and all of their fans. Go GREENBAY PACKERS!

Why don't you move to GB then if you hate Seattle and fans?!!

Why waste such energy on hate? It's a strong word for such frippery. Like or dislike, lets be respectful of one another.

That said... GO SEAHAWKS!

May the best team win, or possibly the team with the most heart on that given Saturday. I feel good about the Hawks chances. I think it is going to be a long day for one of the real troopers in the league---Mr. Favre, get some padding on your backside!!!
Go Seahawks!!

I am a die hard Seahawks fan and I can't help to feel like the Seahawks have a great chance to win this game do to the fact that their defense is extremely tough in short yardage situations also they have a great pass rush..Brett Favre..I love you..your a great role model but the Lambeau magic stops here!

FYI: For all you GB fans...stop calling the fans at Lambeau the "12th" Man, they are not! We are Officially the 12th Man here in seattle, besides Greenbay isn't know for its noise factor. More for its history and mistique. We all know that the weather will not be an advantage for either team, because the last time these two played was in a blizzard in Seattle. Seattle won, and Shaun ran for over 200 yards. These are basically the same teams, except seattle has a superior defense. So gb fans stop posting on our blogs, and stop writing that your the 12th man! I think that gb fans should look at Farves recent playoff record (yikes!)

Listen! The seahawks have, to say the least, disapoited me but I Love them all the same. They will go to the superbowl and this time take a win...
lets all rally behind them and 12th man them from a distance. GO HAWKS!!!

I am a die hard fan of both teams and just like in November 2006, I will be watching this game with my Seahawks shirt and Green Bay Cheesehead on! My loyalties are more towards Seattle, so go HAWKS! But if the Pack wins, as long as they can beat Dallas, I am cool with that!

We're in the far corner of the country, nobody wants to talk about us but who cares? We'll take one game at a time.
GO HAWKS! GO HAWKS! GO HAWKS!

They didnt give us much chance against the Skins' either. i like those odds! Sean Taylor WHO? GO HAWKS!!!!!!! SUPER BOWL BABY

Nick, that is just plain rude. You can be a fan of the Hawks and still maintain respect and decorum for a tragic situation.

Steve, let the GB fans post on Seattle blogs! That is just more motivation for us!

Yeah, we ARE going to WIN in GB!! And if we go to Dallas or Giants come here, we are gonna take care of them as well.

GO HAWKS!!!!

Go Hawks! Brett Favre will have more time after Saturdays loss to make some more Levi commercials! God i love those commercials! Kerney is gonna rip Favres pants off and wear them on his head!

Ok, ok...enough of the rah-rah fan rhetorics. I'm a Seahawks fan too, but let's talk about the real issue at hand, which is the 8 point spread and the o/u of 40. Let's talk about the factors that may be contributing to this number.

One significant factor is field condition. Lambeau is natural grass, while Seahawk's isn't. It's going to be mostly dry this week in Green Bay, but it's at or below freezing. This means the field will be harder than the Hawk's artificial turf. I think this is a possible disadvantage for the Hawk's defensive line, as well as their running game.

Plus, with the two quarterbacks, the oddsmakers are probably expecting more flight time than ground time anyways. But an o/u of 40 doesn't necessarily reflect that.

The only reason that I can see why it's such a high spread, is that the oddsmakers are expecting for GB defense to completely shut Hasselbeck down. They also must expect field conditions to neutralize both teams' running games. Thus, high spread, but proportionately low o/u.

Anyone else have other theories? And please cut it with the useless fan smacktalk. Let's discuss this like adult fans.

I live in Seattle and love watching the Seahawks win, but I was born in Wisconsin and also love seeing GB win... I am torn. At least one of my teams will go onto the NFC Championship!

Oh, I'm sorry 'Pigskin' I didn't realize you were moderating this board. Any other rules or regulations pertaining to this board we should know about? Remember folks, 'Pigskin' says don't support your team unless you have the facts and stats to back you up, make sure you cite your sources! Lets all remember to discuss the Hawks like 'adults' and not upset 'Pigskin'.

What is O/U and what is a good place on the web to look such things up?

Thanks

Is that the best sarcasm you can muster Cal? Are you old enough to drive, son? Stop before you hurt yourself.

Sid -- O/U is the over/under cumulative scores of both teams. So an O/U of 40 means a score prediction of say, 26 to 14. If the score was 24 to 14, it would be under. 27 to 14 would be over. The bet is made based on whether or not you think the scores will be more or less than the O/U line.

An O/U line of 40 is certainly not low, but with a point spread of 8, that means the oddsmakers are predicting a one-sided game in Packers favor.

I personally don't pay a whole lot of attention to odds. To me, the odds of one team beating another mean nothing. All I know is that this game against GB is going to be a good one. Will it be tough for Seattle to play at Lambeau? Yes, it will. Can Seattle beat GB? I think they can (in fact I KNOW they can).

I can recall at least two games (there have been many more) that Seattle ended up winning when the odds were stacked up against them. One was the game in Denver in 1995, when the Seahawks were down by over 20 points, and they made a fast and furious comeback to win it in the 4th quarter. The other game is the 1983 Divisional playoff game against the Miami Dolphins.

My conclusion is this. I am not too worried about the odds. Seattle has an awesome defense that should give Brett Favre and company some trouble. Short yardage defense is awesome, and you cannot forget that the secondary has been stellar as well. The offense, even without a consistent run game, has been explosive as well; we have one of the best receiver corps in the NFl, and they've done a good job of picking up the slack in the run game. Last, but certainly not least, Seattle has one of the best special teams units in all of football, complete with a consistent placekicker and punter. As well, Nate Burleson has proven to be one of the most dangerous kick and punt returners this season. Quite frankly, Seattle can compete against anyone in the league.

Odds? I personally am not too worried about them. Let the oddsmakers make them all they want. I just care about watching the game and rooting the 'Hawks on to victory, and hopefully seeing them get into the NFC title game and then to the Super Bowl.

BLEED BLUE AND GO SEAHAWKS!

Lets also talk about the Seahawks Road record. 3-5 I think? As a Packers fan I like that. Bring the Chicken to GB cause we are HUNGRY!!

The only important thing about odds is that it's a tool to perhaps analyze strengths and weaknesses, that's all.

There are lots of people out there who are paid to discect every part of each game -- so knowing where they see the potential advantages and disadvantages can give critical insight beforehand, don't you think?

Packers fans you forget one thing. Holmgren might feel like he wants to go easy on your decrepit quarterback, but the d-line doesn't. On Kerney bomb on Favre and he's out for the game guaranteed. Then what? You're going to run the ball? Hahahahahaha

Oh how wrong you are pigskin, oddsmakers make the odds of football games on the perception America has of the teams. Since Greenbay is very well known, and has the feel good story of Farve, America is favorable towards them. The oddsmakers have to give a team like Seattle (since their not well known) a big spread in order for there to be an even amount of betting on both teams. Hence the 8 points. The over under is respect given to the defenses and field conditions. Plain and simple. By the way I will be betting on the Hawks. Also I would advise taking the over on the o/u40 points.

Just remember Hawk Fans...Games like Cleveland, games like Pittsburgh...Mr Kearney and your defense forgot to show up. For your sake you better hope they do. I respect these Hawks, but consistency is key. But Records don't matter anymore. Its who comes with fire...Seattle won't have a 12th man in GB to fire them up. GB will have their fans which definitely are not the 12th Man. But GB has home field and their fans are not quiet.

Go Pack Go!

Funny, Cleveland and Pittsburgh arn't in the playoffs. Go figure and GO HAWKS!

The team that makes the plays and does not turn the ball over will win.
Both teams are very good, Seattle is underated.
The home field advantage is huge for the Packers, so if Seattle can win there they can win anywhere. I really think Weaver could be the difference. Seattle also needs to get both tight ends the ball more.

"The team that makes the plays and does not turn the ball over will win." says Bob. That's like the infamous quote about whichever team puts the most points on the score board will probably win the game. Blah! Ha ha!!!

THIS WILL BE A GREAT GAME FROM TWO GREAT TEAMS.BUT I STILL BELIEVE OUR HAWKS WILL SHOW THE ENTIRE NATION WHY WE ARE A ELITE TEAM AND WILL GO BACK TO THE SUPERBOWL. BESIDES DOESN'T EVERYONE KNOW THAT HAWKS LOVE TO EAT CHEESE HEADS. HAHAHAH

DARREN YOU MADE THE COMMENTS ABOUT THOSE PAST GAMES, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR PACKERS TWO WEEKS AGO.I GUESS IT WAS TOO COLD OUT FOR YOUR BOYS.WE THE PLAY OFF PROVEN HAWKS WILL BE READY WILL YOUR YOUNG PACKERS BOYS WANT TO BE READY IN THAT COLD SATURDAY AFTERNOON. GO SEAHAWKS

Michael M...hahaha...you just proved Darrens point!! He says your d-line didn't show up for Cleveland and Pittsburgh, then you turn right around and say that those teams didn't even make the playoffs.
1) Isn't that even worse that your defense can't stop a team so bad that they can't even make the playoffs??
2) Pittsburgh was in the playoffs...
Easy to spot the "real" sports fans on here.

Favre is overrated. The packers played bad teams this year and the good teams they did beat all got off to rough starts (Giants, San Diego). But i think the Seattle is way better than the pack. Im from wisconsin, and i think the hawks will wil 31-28

Ok i am from Green Bay, and I gotta say that the Seahawks are gonna beat the Packers. I agree with jon, the packers had a very easy schedule and now they met their match and i think the packers will lose by at least 5 points

You guys and your crying about the Packers' easy schedule...ummm did you forget what division you guys are in? NFC West! Probably the worst in the NFL. You think you guys played real winners all year???
