Offseason target in sights: Alexander
It's hard to miss the current salvo aimed at Shaun Alexander. While I agree that a) No. 37 no longer has the ability to break a big one around the corners and b) the Seahawks run blocking was so inept Barry Sanders would have been forced to dance a samba to get five yards, I agree with Holmgren that Shaun still has the ability to be a productive back -- if he has the desire.
Alexander told Softy Mahler on KJR radio on Monday that he didn't believe the Seahawks would ask him to restructure his contract. "They're too classy for that," he said. Here is that interview.
In today's Ted Miller PI column: "(Shaun)'s too expensive. He's too old. He's become injury-prone. His running skills have eroded. He is a mediocre-to-poor receiver and blocker...Beyond that, Alexander isn't valuable in the locker room." And a scout told Clare Farnsworth, "(the Seahawks) have absolutely no running game, and their O-line is average to a little above average."
Is Shaun that bad, is is the O-line that poor at blocking? Either way, let the Alan Feneca watch begin.

one thing i know from playing and watching football , TEAM doesn't have an i in it !! the RB has got to have blocking but he has to have the vision to see the hole/recognize the opportunity and have the heart of a lion. he must be willing to lower the shoulder and put the leather to any tackler.ask Stump, he'll tell you. fixin the run game is only half the problem. we need the beef on defense that can run stop. when this year started and we lost Hutch i suggested we try a double fullback set using Strong and Weaver togather and have them both run block for Shaun. no one listened but i noticed GB used it in their win over us and their loss to the Giants.i like the idea because you can go right or left and would work beautifully on setting a screen. two of the primary things which my coach emphasised strongly during my time was weights and conditioning. you have to be strong as a bull and in the BEST shape of your life, anything less is asking to be hurt. serious hurt! road to the SB, get our ground game going to compliment our aierial attack and keep our injuries down. defense needs to get a mean, nasty, not in my house attitude and pound the crap out of opponents in the trenches. get their head right with discipline and dedication they CAN do it. I BELIEVE ! !
