"Not quite ready to say goodbye."
"I want to give this one more shot," Holmgren said this afternoon, after announcing he would come back as the Seahawks coach for the 2008 season. He said he would finish his current contract and '08 would be his last season. A decision that wasn't made until today. "This will be my last year," he said. Coach also praised owner Paul Allen and added, "I owed this to (Allen) to do it correctly." He also praised the management team.
Holmgren said he did not want to have the kind of drama of ending every year with a "will I be back" deal. As he said, it's "not fair to anybody." Coach added that the transition to the next coaching staff would be smooth. "We are going to go after it hard next year."
Holmgren announced there would be changes, specifically on the offensive line. Assistant offensive line coach Keith Gilbertson will be moved up to the wide receivers coach. The defensive staff will pretty much remain intact. So will assistant head coach/secondary coach Jim Mora's. When asked, Holmgren said he trusts general manager Tim Ruskell to make the team better.
Coach said his decision stemmed from many thoughts, training camp, his family, the offseason. "I've been doing it my whole life...I had to have (Kathy) say it was okay." She also told him wouldn't make the decision for him. "I like this job, I like this place." he said. "And we have some unfinished business." He hadn't yet spoken to Matt about returning, joking that Hasselbeck was likely off making another soup commercial.
Glad to have you back, Mike. Even if it is for just one more year.

I'll miss the hell out of Holmgren when he steps down after next season. I can damn near cry just thinking about it. If you've been a Seahawk fan for a long time, you can quickly recall how many years that we weren't in the playoffs - and frankly never had a chance in the first place.
Hopefully we can make a hell of a run in his last year and send him out in style. He's a class guy and has put Seattle on the map in the NFL which has been alot of fun. I can still remember going down to Qwest Field one chilly Sunday morning before they left for Detroit in the Super Bowl. I told my son 'enjoy this moment because you don't know how long it will be before we get to do it again'. Unless you're a New England, SF, Dallas or Pittsburgh, or Buffalo (although they lost painfully 4 times in a row)making the Super Bowl is really hard. So let's hope we can win the 2009 Super Bowl for Seattle and Coach Holmgren!!!

I think that it is nice to see both sides agree to finish out the contract. I expect that Jim Mora stayed on board fully expecting that he has a shot at the head coaching position in 2009...time will tell.

Well, so much for me thinking that the Seahawks were going to have an aggressive offense next season. Now that Our "ultra conservative" play calling coach is coming back for his final season. As fans we can all look forward to the following; The Hawks blowing small leads, late in the game, not going for it on fourth and 1, not utilizing our reicevers abilities to get down field, not useing the tightend enough and god forbid the return of Shaun Alexander:( I swear to god that pathetic excuse of a running back is back on our team I won't be renewing my season tickets. I know that you and Shauna are butt buddies mike but it is time to cut him!
Posted by: steve asher | January 22, 2008 4:54 PM
(steve, you're cut.)
Glad to have you back for one more try at it, Coach Holmgren. Haven't always agreed with your play calling, but I'm definitely glad to have had you on our sidelines.
Let's give 'em heck next year.

I am glad he is staying for one year. He wants to win a Super Bowl for Seattle. But if we don't that O.K. just glad he is staying.
Thanks Mike.

Foo, I think he should give them more than heck, he should give them HELL!!!!!!

I think it is great he is staying for another year.
Looking forwards to another awesome season.
Go Hawks!

I am also glad to see Mike Holmgren will be back for his last season with the Seahawks. I echo the thoughts of SeahawkRick, in that it would be awesome for the Seahawks to send him out in style by winning the Super Bowl in '09. It will be a bittersweet season knowing that he won't be back afterwards.
GO SEAHAWKS!
Posted by: Brian from Tri-Cities | January 22, 2008 9:19 PM
that's right John. no one gets away with insulting our coach. if you don't like him do us all a favor and leave seattle, and find another team to cheer for steve. we don't need fans who talk bad about mike. you're just making your self look bad. glad to have him for another year. go hawks!
Posted by: megan | January 23, 2008 6:37 AM
I'm thankful that God is always in control over all things. For example, Mike staying with the Seahawks -That's Awesome. Seahawks will do great this year... WITH SHAUN ALEXANDER!!! Steve Asher... You should take a look at where you sit in considering this Seahawks team. I see Shaun Alexander on the TEAM. Playing on the FIELD, Supporting HIS Teammates on the sideline. And I see you...just where you said in the STANDS and in your SEAT, WATCHING. I don't see Steve Asher on the roster. Obviously you weren't cut out to be a football player... for any team. I hope you do give up your season tickets because you shouldn't even call yourself a fan if you are going to put down the team. And that is what the Seahawks are - a TEAM. Just know that Shaun is a man of GOD and just watch the LORD Bless him next year!!!
Posted by: Heather Brooks | January 23, 2008 6:56 AM
his decision is insignificant..just like Seahags football is insignificant...along with all other Seattle sports....just plain insignificant
Posted by: ryan l. | January 23, 2008 9:57 AM
Ryan L & Steve Asher, you guys are pathetic. And you're obviously not from here so go on your merry way and bother someone else. I am relieved Holmgren is staying another year, wish it was more but all good things must come to an end. Sure the coaching lacks at times but what team doesn't suffer through that? How do you learn from your mistakes if you don't lose? I remember moving here in 1978 and being so excited to be a part of a pro football team town. The Hawks have had their ups & downs over the last 30 years but the Holmgren years have been truly fantastic. We love our coach and are lucky to have him.
Steve & Ryan...your comments are insignificant to us proud fans. We are proud to support our Seahawks and will continue to do so, win or lose.
Posted by: Football guy | January 23, 2008 4:07 PM
Proud fans? Please! This from a state full of "fair-weather fans"....I've seen Safeco in august...pathetic. Just like Holmgren and his decision making..but you're glad to have him why? Think because you've won the NFC west makes you successful?
Obviously you care enough to post on here but obviously you're too stupid to understand success doesn't come from "coming close" and "choking". I know you don't know of any professional success there (besides the 79' Sonics. Fluke anyone?) Only team to win anything there is going to be shipped off. But your leave it to beaver attitude about giving it the old college try is why the fans there suck and big name players leave.
Posted by: ryan l. | January 23, 2008 11:32 PM
Ryan L. If you know so much about football why don't u play. Couldn't cut it?
Posted by: Heather Brooks | January 24, 2008 6:12 AM
Ryan, here's and idea. You seem to know how people think, feel and also how they should react to things. Evidently we fans and people of Seattle are so 'pathetic' that we need someone great like you to lead us. We 'stupid' people obviously need your wisdom and guidance in order to not be 'insignificant'. So, since you seem to be the next best thing to God, why not take over for Holmgren and show us how its done? Oh, thats right, your just some insecure moron that gets off my aggitating people to the point of nasea. I have some suggestions for you. First, grow up. Second, get a life. Third, your obviously not a fan of Seattle so stop posting here. Why? Because the only thing 'insignificant' is you.
Posted by: Hawks Fan | January 24, 2008 6:25 AM
Don't worry 'Hawk fans. Wasting your time on people like Ryan or Steve is worthless. They are probably fans of some football team from the east coast that came out here and played the hawks and were called for offsides numerous times and their great team lost. boo-hoo. We may be fairweather fans at times but why would someone want to be at a NY game or Chicago or Boston to watch a team and just sit there quietly. The problem is that most of the country who say they are proud football fans are extremely jealous of the fact that seattle fans are absolutely out of their minds for 4 full quarters of football. Every sportscaster from the networks is blown away at how loud our stadium is during games. I would much rather be a fairweather Seahawks fan than walk around saying I am a die-hard fan of teams like the Cowboys, Giants, Raiders or the Patriots who no matter if they go undefeated are nothing but a bunch of proven cheaters. East coast fans are mad that we can yell for 4 quarters straight and then leave and go do something fun outdoors here in the great NW no matter what the weather may be. People from the east, mid-west and south have nothing BUT their sports teams to brag about. The NW rules. Our fans are insane, our state is awesome and we are always no more than a 2 hour drive from the ocean or the mountains. Ever been to the east coast? I have and it sucks twice as bad as they say our sports teams do. I'd rather come in last place every year in all sports than say I live in NY, Boston or Chicago. Besides the bottom line is we are arguing about professional sports how insignificant is that?
Posted by: D. Floydd | January 24, 2008 2:01 PM
I like that people are preaching not to waste time with me or someone else...and how i need to grow up..yet everyone on here is wasting their time and arguing with someone who supposedly needs to grow up because i am commenting on an "open forum"..so what does that make you guys? People filling this up with hypocritical banter, you're all just as guilty. Nice effort in trying to paint me in the corner though.
Douche Floydd- Hmm why would anyone want to be in those cities and win championships?...Because that is the ultimate goal, you do know that right? All you have is that false start thing..i'd rtaher count trophies thank you very much...make all the noise you want..makes less of a statement then winning don't you think? Guess not..so hold on to that little precious stat.
Yes i am a East coaster, i have a set of balls..know what East Coast Biased means?..Means it is much more interesting sports wise and culture as well (Ivy league schools nuff said)..ooo you have mountains and water...so do we..thats why they call it the East Coast..you know Coast..by water?
Heather..yes i got cut, i try out for every NFL team every year and get cut, what a stupid comment. So guess ill go be insignificant..so all of you can respond to my insignificant comments...sad.

O.K. children if any of you want to get you ass handed to you then meet me in front of the pro shop for the home opener next year at 10:00am. I'll be the pissed off 6'3, 225 pound guy with a shaved head. I didn't know that I had stumbled upon the shauna Alexander, and Mike Holmgren clit licking club. So sorry to distrub you, continue licking. The funny thing is is that none of you had an answer to anything that I said. Because its true. How much do you want to bet that we blow atleast 3-4 games next year because Mike gets out coached, sure the guy will get us to the playoffs, but honestly, anyone could do it with the guys that we have. My whole complaint is that we are not a 10-6 team, we have the potential to be a 13-3, 14-2 or better team. Thats all. This last year we had 3 or 4 games slip through our fingers, the differnce between getting home field advantage and not. By the way; the last time someone used my last name like that was in first grade. Oh yeah, honestly people shaun alexander is yesterdays news. Stop telling me how hes going to have a great year next season. He's not. It's kind of hard to have a good season when your on the bench injured all the time, if we keep him thats where he'll be. Hurt and on the bench for the third straight year. Talk about an expensive paper wieght!
Posted by: steve asher | January 25, 2008 11:32 AM
Haha. Well, i must say, i take back what I said Mr. Asher. I must not have read your comments entirely. I do agree with you on the conservative Mike and Shaun being outdated and time for him to go. no need to spend money on a washed up back like him. But to Mr. Ryan L. you must be a complete idiot. iy League schools? what a joke. You are on the east coast and have nothing better to do than search out small sports station websites and harass the local fans. What a sorry life you must live. Enjoy rooting for whatever sports team you have so many championships with. I bet you are the kind of guy "with balls" who is anywhere from 26-35 yrs old and still wears a sports jersey wherever you go. I bet you are wearing a sports hat or shirt right now. haha you friggin clown. Of course we all know the point is to win a champoinship but the difference with you east coast dummies is that you cannot stop validating your sorry life with constant mention of your trophies. But they are not your trophies they are the team's trophy of the town you happen to live in. oh wow. and i find it quite pathetic that you are even checking back to see if someone has responded to your posts. I bet you must sit in your mom's basement all day long tormenting fans in towns around the land since you have nothing better to do. go eat some more baloney sandwiches you loser. I hope you meet Mr. Asher at next years season opener! haha...you dummy...and It's Mr. Dou-che Floydd to you...
Posted by: Mr. Dou-che Floydd | January 25, 2008 3:23 PM
Mr. Floydd, thanks for the response. Ryan, you should seek help or like I posted earlier--grow up or come and show us 'losers' how do be like you--oh great one from the east coast. Also, do some more research, the Portand Trailblazers won a championship in 1977. Yes, quite some time ago, but that's two for the Great Pacific Northwest. Again, we 'insignificant' people whom are just 'losers' in your book, can point to much more in life than just trophies. We actually have lives outside of a 'game' and live in a beautiful area of the country often referred to as 'God's country'. Unlike on the East Coast where you have people who would rather cut your throat than shake your hand, people from the Pacific Northwest are a more decent people and we also have a lot more nature to look at. From mountains to the coast, to the Columbia River Gorge, to the San Juan Islands, rain forests to deserts--out here you have it all. The East coast is just flat, polluted and over populated. So, even if this is off the subject, I think it backs Mr. Floydd's post as to how truly pathetic you are Ryan L. To Mr. Asher, your comments should be put in another manner. I might help you come to terms with the evident issues that you have. You seem to have homo-erotic tendancies and have yet to come to terms with them. They have hot lines for that you know. As for the rest of us Hawk fans, we look forward to being the best fans in the NFL, living in the best area of the country and hopefully bringing the Super Bowl trophy home next year. Go Hawks!!!!
Posted by: Hawks Fan | January 26, 2008 4:21 PM
Oh Douchebag...you're checking back too chief....and you've responded to little ole' me twice...since i'm somehow beneath you...you must be getting a pretty good hard on thinking you're getting the better of me..when you're calling me out on the exact same thing you're doing. All i'm validating with trophies is this argument...
which started with, it doesn't matter who you bring to Seattle...the people have low expectations , Seattle sports has had no impact what so ever in the "sports world"...or any social impact either...but this is a sports blog right? and a open forum as well?..but i'm pushing the right buttons..and i'll keep pushing...for the sake of doing so ok, Mr. "it's ok to lose because we're loud and we have mountains and water...oh and i contradict myself"
Posted by: Ryan L. | January 26, 2008 9:54 PM
No impact? You must be smoking your own supply buddy. The Pacific Northwest is home to the following, just to name a FEW things: the CD, Boeing, Microsoft, Nike, Starbucks (which you probably drink daily) as well as many environmentally friendly ideas like 'recycling'--just to name some 'social impact' as you put it. Ryan L, you have the trophies issue, but hell, the Northwest has only had big league teams out here since the 70's. If we had teams since the 20's, 30', 40's, etc like the east coast football teams, you'd have no leg to stand on. Your 'East Coast Bias' as you call it, is only ignorance mixed with a smug egocentric attitude. Truly sad.
Posted by: Hawker | January 27, 2008 9:59 AM
I'm notthe one talking about rain forests, and deserts you flamer. Besides I've been married for four years which is probably four years longer then any relationship you've had with a women. Hawker you freakin queer bate. How else would you like me to phrase " I'm going to kick the shit out of you!"
Posted by: steve asher | January 27, 2008 11:02 AM
Steve Asher, I know you and your as GAY as they come. After you got divorced four years ago, you've been getting more meat shoved into you than the average prison inmate. Your a queer as they come with your cute little shaved head. Don't try and hide it because if anyone just looks at you or hears you talk, they'd know right then and there cute stuff. Hell, we've had some gay romps between the two of us, so I don't know why your getting your panties in a bunch.
Posted by: I know you | January 27, 2008 11:18 AM
Ok, you guys got me. I've been in denial for a long while now, but have to come to terms with my homosexuality. I am gay and have been even before I divorced my wife. I guess I should have known that when I was having sex with men when she was not a home. I tend to have a bit of a temper though and my old homo-phobic side comes out in an attempt to hide my true self. Anyways, I'm not going to kick anyones ass. I might do some other things to it, but thats for another time. Sorry guys. I'm going out to a club now, later!
Posted by: steve asher | January 27, 2008 3:54 PM
I know I've been a prick in order to compensate for the fact that I have a little dick, but I'd like to welcome steve asher into the gay community. If you'd ever like to experience some hot gay east coast action, just look me up you stud! I'm all game and all GAY baby!!

I would seriously like to meet you some where and settle this. If you are man enough drive your sorry ass down to vancouver, if you even have a license. I would love to punch your fuckin teeth down your throat. I will kick your ass plain and simple. So if you would like to meet up I will be waiting....name a time and place, please, please, name one!

Posted by: Ryan L | January 29, 2008 6:43 AM
Oh Steve, the only thing you'd like to do when you meet him is blow him off and give him some of your man meat. I've 'been' with you a least two times that I can remember and your as queer as they come sweetheart. So, give up the tough guy act and realize that you've been who you are (GAY) for quite some time now. Bye lover boy!
Posted by: I know you | January 29, 2008 7:04 AM
I'm sorry guys, that was my angry homophobic side coming out again. What I really want to do is meet up with you guys and show you my GAY skills. I'm really just a pent up individual that needs to come to terms with how much of a GAY man I've become. I still have issues with it, but some day I will over come. Until then guys, I'll be waiting....to give you some of my man juice with my 100% American man meat!! Oh my goodness I love men!! Take care and I can wait to 'meat' all of you!!
The real Steve Asher--or 'asshim' oooohhh, I like that last one. Tootles!!
Posted by: Steve Asher | January 29, 2008 1:11 PM
well this has gone beyond ridiculous...i guess i was so right about everything i said and that you obviously know i have a higher mental copacity, that you had to resort in homophobic rhetoric if that's the best you have then you are showing your true colors, i know 3/4 of the state is full of slack jawwed yokels..and the other are liberal tree huggers who raise feable minded children who have no idea how to communicate. But hey it's ok, i know i'm right...about the Seahawks...about your lack luster state..i'm smarter than you..just accept it and spare everyone your grade school antics..no wonder you have a high suicide rate...most of you are wasted on meth anyways....ciao hicks

I basically just described how I actually feel about the east coast and all of the people who live here, in my last post. I'm simply too stupid to recognize just how stupid I am---thats why our motto out here is, "Stupid is as stupid does."--and we do a lot of stupid things here. We are just a bunch of degenerate, un-educated, knuckle dragging idiots. I myself am 42 years old, I live in my parent's basement, I don't have job, I masturbate to gay porn a lot and I still wet my bed. I myself, along with the entire east coast, are truly pathetic and sad.
Posted by: ryan l. | January 31, 2008 9:39 AM
Ryan L., I agree with you. People from the east coast are insignificant assholes--to include you. From the looks of all your posts, your just an over grown child with way too much time on his hands. Leave the posting to the grown ups and go eat some soup that your mother just microwaved for you. Idiot.
Posted by: West Coaster | January 31, 2008 1:11 PM
Taking the low road is understandable for you all, no real capacity to formulate any real basis for your arguments. Just keep spewing that garbage hicks, inject more meth into your systems..come at me with your weak and over used insults that can be heard on any playground.
Take a look at yourself and what you type....you are again doing exactly what i am doing...
let me list your faults
1.By saying im a loser, too old, telling me to get a life, i'm imature for posting here...like the rest of you right?
2. Saying Holmgren is a great coach when we know Holmgren is a terrible coach..proven fact.
3. Being pussies for accepting losing teams, although you all claim to be so proud....of losing teams..that's why you're state is full of property destroying protesters.
4.Envying me..by trying to be me on here...that's original
5. Saying the Northwest has an impact..when it doesn't...we all know California wears the pants over there...you have a space needle..trying to claim natural formations such as mountains and waters as your own...i mean that's pretty sweet.
oh and this took me all of 3 minutes and 32 seconds..so much for taking too much time out of my life...I'm so smart, i'm so smart..yes i am, yes i am. ciao hicks

Once again I show that I'm an immature, uneducated, bed wetting, gay loving, live with mom still, idiot. I just can seem to get over the fact that I always want to get the last word in, even though I'm only responding to myself at this point. None of my points make any sense, except for the insults towards the east coast, which we all know is where I'm from and that it sucks, totally. I'm going to go paint my finger nails now and wear my mom's shoes. I'm just an idiot with no life and no cause other than to try and insult something I know nothing about. Ciao everyone, I'm a LOSER! I'm going to do some meth and then kill myself.
