Tatupu seals it, Seahawks win over Eagles, 28-24

10:10 AM Sun, Dec 02, 2007 |

MVP? Tatupu. Lofa had a monster game in the freezing rain, sealing the deal near the goal line with his third INT of AJ Feeley. What a game for the Pro Bowl LB. The FOX crew said the three interceptions tied a Seahawks record. We'll have to see how the players on the offensive line are, there was a lot of subs. Shaun looked good, as did Mo. Final: Seahawks 28 Eagles 24.

I was worried before the play. I said watch, they'll run off the left tackle. Why be worried? I didn't know it was Morris. Way to go Mo, as he runs for a TD. Nice change of pace, using Mo and Alexander. Both have one TD for the day. Shaun even gave Mo a big hug. Seahawks 28, Eagles 24.

Third quarter, Seahawks turn the ball over (Engram fumble) and the Eagles' Westbrook then breaks a big run and scores a TD. The Eagles have their first lead of the game, Seahawks 21, Eagles 24.

Superb goal line stand by the Seahawks defense, as Rocky Bernard trips up Westbrook to stop the Eagles try on fourth down. Halftime, Seahawks 21, Eagles 17.

Well, no protection problems for Feeley, either. Feeley throws to Curtis for an Eagles TD. Seahawks need to find a way to stop the Eagles offense. Every time the 'Hawks start to pull away, the Eagles answer. Seahawks 21, Eagles 17.

Protection problems? What protection problems? Matt to Nate Burleson (great RAC) for a TD. Seahawks 21, Eagles 10.

Eagles move the ball into the red zone again, and settle for a FG. Seahawks 14, Eagles 10.

Tatupu is reading Feeley really well...so well, he gets his second INT. Matt to Bobby Engram (thanks to No. 51) and it's Seahawks 14, Eagles 7.

Seahawks fail to stop the Eagles on their second possession. Buckhalter runs for a 30-yard TD, Seahawks 7, Eagles 7.

First quarter starts with a bang, as Tatupu picks off AJ Feeley's first pass of the game. Two Shaun Alexander runs, and the RB runs for TD (was that really a failed pass to Ashworth?). Welcome back No. 37. Seahawks 7, Eagles 0.

Coach,
Time and time again you rely way too much on our defense. Everytime when we get down to the end of the game you have them run, run, run and punt. Ridiculous, Keep up the same pace all the way thru the game. When all we need is a first down to end the game and then you switch to the running game. Even if we were 30 points ahead keep the pace up like the game is 0 to 0. You are going to give me a heart attack eventually!!!

Still your number 1 fan,

- Woody

I agree completely with Woody. The defenses know you are going to run run run at the end of the game trying to run off the clock. If you would have just tried to get the first down you could have ran out the clock and Philly wouldn't have even had an opportunity at the end of the game to make it close. Mix it up a bit with some play action passes and screens.

Also on 4th down when you are in the middle of the field, if you are not going for the field goal for crying out loud just punt. It is way too risky to go for it on fourth down and not make it. I can see doing it if you are losing and need to score or inside the 20 yard line of the opponent it doesn't give them good field position if you don't make it. Your play calling is making this team have closer games than they should. Seahawks should and could've won this game by at least two touchdowns.

Make some smarter calls and you will secure wins way more easily. You already lost a few games that should have ben won earlier this year like Cleveland and Arizona because of piss poor play calling. If you do this in the playoffs you will lose when you could've won.

I have to agree with both of you guys. We got way, way too concervative late in the game. Good grief! The last two weeks have given me a lot of gray hairs! I'm glad we won though, 8-4 and moving on!! Go Seahawks!!!!

Great game. Hope we can do the same to AZ next week!

i'm gonna have to disagree with some of the comments here. the reason for the increased runs late in the game was because it was WORKING. alexander had a much better 2nd half. i don't think it was a bad idea to rely on the defense considering the way they were playing. the eagles were not able to get anything going at all in the 2nd half and the hawks knew it. the series of runs at the end of the game were crucial for philly to use up their TO's. a play action or screen would be too risky, and would save philly a timeout for their last possession.

the only real complaint i have is with ryan plackemeier...he had a terrible game.

I'm just glad they won. I wish I would have been able to see the game, but I was in church while the game was going on (gotta keep my priorities straight - God before football), so I missed it, but I did hear on the radio that they won. Now on to kick some Arizona Cardinal butt.

GO SEAHAWKS!

The running game worked when the plays were being mixed up. However the fourth quarter clock management has been consistent with Holmgren and defenses can key on it which is he does not pass he runs and it has been stopped just like today. If they would have gotten first downs Philly wouldn't have had a chance to have the ball back, just like in St. Louis last week same situation. We actually lost games with Cleveland and Arizona by predictable play calling and getting way to conservative by only running instead of mixing it up a little bit and getting first downs and not giving the opposing team an opportunity to get a game winning or game tying drive.

It is just as risky or more risky running and not getting a first down which stops the clock on the punt, and gives the opposing team a chance to win the game. If you make the screen or the play action pass for a first down the opposing team doesn't get that chance, and you don't have a nail biter at the end of the game that we may or may not win, we will guarantee a win.

my god coach!!! let Mora do the play calling. no more run, run, run, at the end of games. PLEASE!!!!

james said:

philadelphia was stumped offensively the entire half. the only reason today's game was a nail-biter was because of westbrook's huge punt return. noone could have anticipated that. if he had'nt had such a significant run, it would have been a very, very difficult task to go on a touchdown drive within a minute and a half with no timeouts, especially when their offense have been cold the entire half. of course it's easy to make calls in hindsight. let's say holmgren integrated some play action, screen passes in the final drives...and let's say they went incomplete, fans would have a field day criticizing holmgren for not milking the clock when he had the chance. the bottom line is that i think the play calling was sufficient to win the ballgame. his strategy was to rely on the defense, and once again, the defense came up big.

i would say that if they were paying BONUS money for outstanding performance Lofa deserves the bread.without his intercetions and the ensuing scores we could have been looking at this one from the other side of the fence.receivers and corners both played exceptional given the WEATHER conditions.i was astounded there weren't more turnovers in this game.the WHOLE team played a commendable game. GO Hawks.

Sorry about my spelling errors above. Wish there were a way to edit! But thank gawd for the 'D!' Right?!!!

How did you fell about the win today? Do you think the seahawks and you will make the superbowl? Because i sure due.

him said:

I'm going to have to side with James. Every attempted pass on that last possession that fell incomplete would have been one more available timeout for the eagles. The fault for nearly losing the game at the very end goes to the special teams' inability to give up only a short return, not the play calling.

And as for going for it on 4th down rather than punting, I'm siding with Mike on that one. Punting was horrible today, which gives me no confidence that Plackemeier would have been able to drop it right near the goal-line.

number 37 is still the same old, washed up, slow, stuttering, wimp. Sure he had a 16 yard run at the beginning of the first quarter, but after that he had 49 yards on 18 carries. Thats a 2.72 avg. Mo Morris had 67 yards on 5 carries. If you exclude the 45 yard run, then he had 22 yards on 4 carries. Thats a 5.5 avg. With Mo you also dont nearly have the amount of plays for a lose. He hits the hole alot harder and it shows. The only time that you see shaun run hard is when were inside the 20.

byron boucher said:

well hawks you played a great game still have room for improvement i disagree with steve asher when he says 37 is a wimp he aint no wimp just trying to get his groove back but i also think the hawks should use all 3 backs Shaun, Mo, and Weaver equally this will confuse the defence leting them guess which one will get it next it also opens up some good fake opportunities fake it to the full back and pitch it to mo or shaun or maybee fake it to shaun and pitch it to weaver would also love to see a fli flicker i think it could work on first downs i think the hawks should let weaver carry the ball more on shat yardage and in the red zone all in all they played well arizona is next we must hit harder on defense and i think we will good job hawks lets get another w agenst those cards

Yesterday was a HUGE road win for the Seahawks. Their winning percentage on the East coast is horrible. It's refreshing to see the defense step up on 3rd down and force punts... something that doesn't happen when they lose. One area for improvement... the kick-coverage game. I don't know why the Seahawks don't just kick it out of bounds every time just to avoid the long run back and save their guys the risk of injury. The other team ends up at the 40-yard line + every time anyway! GO HAWKS... Keep it rollin'!

Ken said:

Complain complain complain... The Seahawks keep winning and are 8-4 sitting pretty at the top of the division and No. 3 in the NFC. 'Nuff said! Go 'Hawks!
