No news is good news

That's kind of how Mike Holmgren's press conference felt this afternoon. Much of the conversation drifted towards free agency, which is interesting given the game ahead. But I'll talk about that in a bit. First off, no DJ Hackett or Josh Wilson this week -- although Mike said both are healing quicker than expected and he was very pleased with that. Also, he said there would be no change in game planning following the clinching of the division.

About the new snapper, 14-year veteran Jeff Robinson, Holmgren joked that the first time he saw Robinson, he thought they had hired a new coach. Robinson worked under coach DeHaven before, lives locally, and -- while there is some trepidation in bringing a snapper in this late (something Holmgren has never done before) -- DeHaven thinks highly of Robinson and the coaches hope the change will ease the uncertainty in the kickers. "It cannot be an adventure every time you line up for a PAT," he added.

The interesting bit about FA, was the current difference between the Panthers and the Seahawks. Injuries have plagued the Panthers, sure. Of the starters on Carolina from the '05 Championship Game, only eight starters started in the same position last week vs. the Jaguars. On the opposite side, the Seahawks have retained 16 players (got that stat from Mike Kahn from Seahawks.com) from that '05 team and added some great players on defense in FA. Julian Peterson last year, and Patrick Kersey and the safeties this year. While injuries play a huge role with any team this late in the season, right now the moves the 'Hawks front office made in the last two years on defense look pretty darn good. Holmgren even compared the signing of Kerney to the biggest free agent splash he's been associated with -- the GB signing of Reggie Brown.

So, how nervous should we be about special teams?

Just saw Hasselback on 'Pardon The Interruption'. Just gave him a full 5 minutes interview! National press starting to pay attention to us?
