Best defense, '05 or '07 Seahawks?
Defense wins championships, right? You've heard it over and over again. So which defense is better? The current defense, or the defense that got the Seahawks to the Super Bowl? Stay with me here, because I'm heading into deep water...and stats. With three games left to play, the current team is 12th in total defense. The '05 team was 16th.
Let's look at turnovers. In INT's, the NFC Championship defense tied for 14th in the league at 16. This year's squad is second in the NFL with 20. In the forced fumbles category, the '07 team is tied for second in the league with 22. The '05 team had 12 teams ahead of them, and tied with four others for 13th place.
Sacks? This year's team is on a roll -- knocking QB's out of the game, Jeff Garcia, Alex Smith, Bulger. The Seahawks '05 team was number one in the league with 50 sacks. The current Seahawks defense? Second in the NFL, with 41.
So which is the better defense? Time will tell. And isn't the real determination which defense actually makes it to the Super Bowl? Defense wins championships. Well, when I look at the stats -- and I'm not a stat guy -- this defense has winner written all over them.

This years defense is obviously A LOT better than in 2005. However, this years TEAM will have to prove that it is better than the 05 team by not just making it to the Super Bowl, but WINNING the Super Bowl. That will be a LARGE task to accomplish---in fact HUGE. In 05, crucial mistakes, key drops and poor calls lost us that game. Plus, our depth in the secondary in 2005 was really weak. This years squad is smarter and just better. Russel and Grant really shored things up for us in the secondary. And for Kerney? Well, his season is testament enough by itself, let alone his selfless leadership skills. Go Seahawks!!!!

This years defense is far and away better then the 05 defense. Trufant now has the ability to cover any reciever in the nfl, and our d-line maybe the best in the game today. Not to mention that two of our three linebackers are going to the probowl this year. We are also allowing the second fewest points in the nfl. The cowboys and the packers better be looking over their shoulders!

In addition, we are not giving up the big plays that we were vulnerable to in 05, we have Kerney instead of Wistrom, Tatupu is even better, and don't forget the 05 team had a better offense behind it that chewed a lot more time off the clock (and converted 3rd and one's).
