Ask Mike Holmgren
It's Friday, which means it's time to ask Mike Holmgren a question. If you'd like to leave a question for the coach -- before or during the Panthers game -- do so in the comments section below, with your first name and the city where you live. Coach, don't you think that women should "just say no" to the NFL's marketing plan of PINK Seahawks jerseys? I hate seeing those in the stands, who are they cheering for Barbie? Real women wear the blue and green, go hawks!

Coach, Do you sleep on the left or right side of your bed? And why?

Coach, Everything for the hawks seems to be clicking. From offense to defense as well as special teams. What is the difference this year? What is your secret to our unbelievable success?
Posted by: Laura | December 14, 2007 3:08 PM
Since when is 9-4 'unbelievable success?' There are 3 other teams with the same record and four teams with better records. Lot of unbelievability our there, eh?
Posted by: Huh | December 14, 2007 4:21 PM
I think he means the last 5 games since we changed game plans. Before we went to a throw first team, we were struggling. We were were a .500 team and forcing the unsuccessful run. Now we seem to be clicking. And the defense has stepped up huge.
Going from one strategy to another mid-season and having it work? Yeah I'd call that unbelievable success. Don't you think?
Posted by: Richard | December 14, 2007 5:31 PM
no, i would not call it unbelievable, i'd call it smart. if you think it is unbelievable then i guess you thought the seahawks were not capable of this level of play. personally, i always believed they could, therefor i do not find the last 5 weeks unbelievable.

Coach Holmgren what happend to Shaun Alexander? His last years stats are 2 times better than this year's stats?

Here's wishing you and your family a Peaceful and Joyous Merry Christmas. Good Luck in the upcoming playoffs. I'm really enjoying the New fast start the Team has been using in the last few games and it's awesome seeing Terry Bradshaw speechless after last weeks win over the Cards.

Last week I noticed that Shaun Alexander almost always ran the ball to the right. Which is strange to most of us fans that realize Shaun has picked up most of his yards in past couple of seasons behind big left tackle Walter Jones. Is the reason for this due to difficulty running left with while Shaun recovers from the injury, or is Walter Jones (sore shoulder)injury temporarily affecting some of the play calling? Can we expect to see Shaun running inside and outside the left tackle soon?

Coach,
If we make it to the Super Bowl and we are going against the New England P's & the refs knowing that the NFL is rooting for them both to do there jobs so what is your game plan?
Posted by: Carmen | December 15, 2007 8:03 AM
Coach, do you think it is possible for men to lactate and even breastfeed their children? Some theorist posit 'yes' it is possible. Do you concur?
Posted by: Carl in Tacoma | December 15, 2007 11:37 AM
What kind of question is that? What does that possibly have to do with football? Get real people. If you don't have a football question stay off the blog. Go Hawks>>>>

Why can't your back up center snap the ball on special teams? What makes long snapping so difficult that not just anyone can do it?

Coach,
Recently I heard a national football analyst say college players call their coach "coach" and professional players call their coach by their first name. Is that correct? And do you have any requirements on how your players address you?
Posted by: Jon-Bremerton | December 16, 2007 2:02 AM
Coach,
How much sense of urgency was their for you to get a 14 yr. veteran Long Snapper such as Jeff Robinson signed? What can he immediately bring to the team?
Posted by: Jon-Bremerton | December 16, 2007 2:16 AM
Coach,
With all the problems on and off the field in professional sports in recent years do you have a strategy implemented to help you and your coaching staff keep the players focused and out of trouble?
Posted by: Jon-Bremerton | December 16, 2007 2:46 AM
I know it is easy to say it doesn't matter who you play in the playoffs, but really, who do you not want to play and who would you like to play?

It seems that the defensive secondary is playing much better this year. How much of that do you attribute to Jim Mora Jr. and how much of an impact has he been to the whole team?
Posted by: Marc - Olympia | December 16, 2007 9:38 AM
Third and short! What is the problem? Three times in the first quarter.

How much of a factor was the wind for the passing game today?

Shaun Alexander is awful. So I believe you should try someone new at runningback like Senaca Wallace.

Well,Coach Mike,I don't know what to say about the game today, but they remind me of someone who is bi pollar. we as fans never know which team we are going to get from week to week. It remindes me of the Dave Krieg years. What do you think can be done to step it up for the play offs.
Thanks, Jon

Coach-
Even though you have the division wrapped up, are you concerned going into the playoffs regarding the teams inconsistent play on the road this year?

How do you intend to improve our woeful running game? I think you would agree that a team needs to have a good running game in the playoffs esp. when you play in bad weather (e.g., Green Bay) like we played in today.
Thank you.

1. What was wrong with the offense today?
2. How come your players were not around you today?

Was today's loss to the Panthers planned so that the Seahawks didn't have to play against the Packers in the first playoff round?

Coach,
What can be done to strengthen up the offensive line heading into the playoffs as well as into next season?
Posted by: Ryan | December 16, 2007 3:30 PM
Mike,
The general rule of thumb is for the away team to play for the lead (aggressive) and the home team to play for the tie. This situation was presented with the score 3-0 early in the fourth quarter on the 4th and 1 or 2, well within the 10 yard line. You selected to kick the field goal rather than go for the lead and gain the momentum for the team. Granted points were hard to come by. Carolina still had momentum and marched down the field on their next drive and kicked another field goal to take a lead again. Those 4 points would have helped at the end of the game and changed Carolina's strategies.
Thanks,
Hope this help when you are on the road, late in the playoff.
The offense has been putting a lot of pressures on the defense this year to win game.

Coach,
With 1 second left, the squib makes sense because we might get lucky with a fumble. However, I thought the replay showed that Branch scored the touchdown with about 2-1/2 seconds left. If the clock had been reset, would that give you an opportunity for an onside kick and hail mary? Is that something that should have been reviewed?

Coach,
When the Panthers won the toss why did Seattle pick the direction they did? That direction made you go against the wind at the end of the game. Thanks and Happy Holidays.

Coach,
The team seems to play down to their competition rather than just playing their style of football consistently. Do you think this is due to poor execution or preparation?

Mr. Holmgren;
4 or 5 years ago, you tried something like a wishbone set, with two fullbacks, and a tailback in a triangle formation. Could that work again, at least in short yardage?
Posted by: cam clark | December 18, 2007 10:21 PM
Dear Mike Holmgren;
Lets run a play with 4 wideouts, and they both run outside curls, and the tight end releases straight up the middle, catches the ball, and does a hook and ladder to the a second tight end releasing late. Or an on side kick with a decoy kicker with a two kicker set.
