It's Friday, which means it's time to ask Mike Holmgren a question. Just leave your question in the comments below (before or during the Eagles game), with your first name and the city where you live. Then watch The Mike Holmgren Show with Paul Silvi, right after NBC's Sunday Night Football, and see if Coach Holmgren answers your question. 50 Comments |
the remaining schedule is very week, i think we can go undefeated the rest of the season and be 12-4, realisticly what are the chances of the seahawks getting the 2 seed in the playoffs?

Please Call More Trick Plays And can You Please Bring The Blitz?
If you were in Andy Reid's situation, would you take a leave of absence to attend to family matters?
I'm no football expert but I love to watch the game. Why does Alexander always seem to run sideways or backwards, but never forwards?
Mike: I'm glad to see more of the shotgun gun offense have you considered running from this formation? it could be very efective with the defense thinking pass. I remember Dallas doing this against us years ago during the Landry era with great success.
Coach,
Do you have any superstitions leading up to a game? If so, what are they?
Dear Coach,
What can we the fans do, to help keep you in Seattle? If you were offered a front office position with the Hawks, would you take it? You mean the world to this community and the organization.
Take care and God bless,
In my opinion, you have made the Seahawks a Seattle team that will always be remembered as the best. My question is, not knowing much about football, but I do know that you and the players are good role models for the community,I will put my question in the form of a suggestion. These forums and similar medium should be used more often to gain insight and advise from people such as yourself and the players. I would appreciate it overwhelmingly if my daughter, for instance could go to a source and know that there is a place for this. Thank you
Coach,
I noticed that you seemed to balance the run and pass since the return of Shaun Alexander. Why didn't you consider doing this in the last few weeks when you had Mo Morris starting? He seemed to be running much better when you were handing the ball to him. Have you considered putting in Mo for the rest of the season and have him carry the running game of this team?

Coach-
Great First half by the defense, but why wasn't Matt using the shotgun in the first half like he did in the St. Louis Game?
Thanks Coach
Brad
Why are you so much more confident in the running game this weak, then you have been the past weaks? Dont you think that Morice Morris has accomplished so much more than Shaun?
What did you think Mo's big touchdown run in the third quarter? Do you think you might consider him starting?
With the weather as bad as it was, what changes did you make to bothe the running game and passing game?
With the weather as bad as it was, what changes did you make to both the running game and passing game?
Coach,
What I have noticed about the Hawks when they have the lead in the 4th quarter, the offense simply cannot put the game away with a "knockout punch." This gives their opponents a chance and most importantly gives them the mindset that they are able to get back into the game and maybe pull a win. Many NFL analyst has stressed this about the Seahawks and that is why they do not believe the Hawks to be an elite team. What I have noticed is they decide to play the clock and play conservatively with short passes of 5 or 6 yard gains and maybe a short run or two, instead of throwing the deep ball and scoring a big touchdown for the "knockout punch," why is this?
Coach,
Time and time again you rely way too much on our defense. Everytime when we get down to the end of the game you have them run, run, run and punt. Ridiculous, Keep up the same pace all the way thru the game. When all we need is a first down to end the game and then you switch to the running game. Even if we were 30 points ahead keep the pace up like the game is 0 to 0. You are going to give me a heart attack eventually!!!
Still your number 1 fan,
- Woody
Coach,
Well we made it past the eagles barely. Any concerns with arizona coming to town next week? Mo Morris sure earned his paycheck today. Shawn did O.K. Any chance you will start mo against arizona?
Coach, Was the weather a factor with all the short punts? And is Josh doing anythig to workout missing 6 out of 9 field goals?
Coach,
With only 1:34 left in the game, why did you keep running plays with Shawn knowing that the defense was going to tee off on him?
Coach, why be so conservative with 2 minutes to go in the fourth quarter with a four point lead? One or two first downs would have won the game with possession.
What is going on with Josh Brown for the last 2 games he has a lot more then he normally does? He use to make almost everything and lately he is having a lot of problems.
By the way glad to see Alexander back hopefully he will keep up the good work.
David
Dear coach,
I theindk our running game is terrible. So, you should consider putting Seneca Wallace in at runningback.
Mike,
Do you believe in putting a team away when you are up by 4 in the 3rd Qtr?
What do you think is wrong with Josh Brown?
Coach,
During the fourth quarter when we are ahead of games with only a few minutes left I see you get conservative and go strictly to the run to try and run the clock out. This seems to have backfired just about every time including this week because we go three and out and give the ball back to the opposing team who always seems to make it close. I believe the defenses are keying on the run because they have seen you do this consistently week in and week out at the end of the games which has lost a couple of games we should have won including Arizona and Cleveland.
I can understand having confidence in your defense but it seems we have been in nail biters that we could have won without the drama at the end of the game if we would have just gotten first downs and not gave the opposing team even an opportunity to have the ball. Have you thought about taking a page out of New Englands book and just sticking with what got you ahead in the game by mixing it up and getting first downs and scores instead of being so conservative and predictable?

Hey coach, today Lofa Tatupu had a monster game and has had a really good career so far, where do you think he ranks among todays great defensive players?
Nice road win coach. I am however concerned about the reliability of Josh Brown all of the sudden who has been missing more feild goals than he's been making the past few games now. Is the center snapping still the problem or has he slipped into a funk?
Coach,
Good win today. With heavy hearts being felt today around the league are you and the team planning on attending Sean Taylor's funeral? So very sad. What a waste of a wonderful young man and father. Your thoughts?
Coach,
Glad for the win today, but it seems like the late game-clock management has been off in a few key games this season. Do you usually make these calls, like to run the final three plays today, or do you leave those calls to Matt?
Hey Coach,
Nice game by the defense today and a great road win on east coast time! When Shaun's in the game it seems you call more I-formation plays. Does Shaun prefer running from that set over split backs?

Coach,
Chris Spencer reportedly has an Oblique strain.
Is it possible that a new conditioning regime by the training staff is resulting in the players being weak in this particular area? Or on the flip-side is this a positive result of conditioning where they are injuring their obliques vs. a more serious injury?
Go Hawks!
Thanks for taking the time to read my question.
Hi Coach, John from Olympia. What can the team do to stop giving the opponent the short field on kick-offs? It seemed like they started today on the 35 to40 yard. Is it a physical or mental error on coverage.
Coach,
Great win today, though my heart has just stopped pounding! Is Plack injured? He didn't seem to have good leg extension or velocity on any of his punts today. Also, our special teams coverage still seems inconsistent. How do coaches improve that area of the team's performance?
Coach,
With 1:34 left in the game, why did you keep giving the ball to Shawn knowing that the defense was going to key off on him each time he was in huddle?
Coach, What is the status of Josh Wilson? What was his injury? Thanks
those interception[which was AWSOME] tha Lofa got was it planed that he followed those receivers? or did he see nobody eas on them?
What was up with Tom Ashworth as a receiver? Is he the next Mike Vrabel?
The Dallas Cowboys do a good job of balancing their two running backs (Julius Jones & Marion Barber), can't we do something similar with Alexander and Morris?
coach do you think sometimes your play calling is to conservitive, especialy at the end of the game?
how frustrated was it when your team loses a 3rd down converstion?
Mike,
Who pays for the equipment the players wear? My husband says the players I say the team?
Thanks,
Sandra
Shawn Alexander is just not really getting the job done consistantly. He seems to not be able to get started soon enough. Don't you think that Shawn Alexander would move a lot better if he lost some weight, say about thirty or forty pounds???
Do you think the seahawks will make it to the superbowl? because i sure do. How did you feel about the win today?
the seattle seahawks have played poorly for the past month on several fronts. 1st and foremost the special teams play is abysmal,u can't let punt returns and kick-off returns consistently put your defense in such a hole. 2nd, Matt hasselback needs to step up to the challenge on third down, u guys are horrible on 3rd down conversions, tell Matt if it's 3rd down and less than five yds to go and all receivers are covered, tuck the ball (hold on to it) and run for the 1st down, I sincerely don`t think he considers that option based upon his performance. Instead he either gets sacked, fumbles the ball or throws into double coverage. It's time for him to step up or "SIT DOWN"3rd,the defensive line has been "ok" but when the game is on the line we need more pressure on the QB and we are not arising to the occasion. And last,we as a team need to play for 60 minutes,i don't know what it is ,but I just don't see total concentration throughout the game, especially with Matt Hasselback.Until the above mentioned problems are addressed this team will provide their fan base with just another mediocre season.

Why not play mo morris more?
Coach,
Why don't the db's jam recievers at the line, It seems like they're playing 7 yards back every time?
Coach, at the end of the Eagles game a return of a PUNT almost cost you the game. Why did you not punt the ball out of bounds and not worry about a run back the same reason why teams keep kicking to Devon Hester on PUNTS. These punters should be good enough for this.
I can't tell you how embarrassing it is to be sitting in the stands with all of these supposed fans. It was terrible how they are still booing poor Sean. Yes, he did seem to be playing like he was afraid to get hit, when he was hurt, but he has been doing so much better the last few games. I don't hear any boo's when Mo gets stopped dead in his tracks!
I agree with you Mike, give Sean a break.
What is wrong with the long snap center.Because that is why I think Josh Brown keeps missing.
