Top Ten: #8 Sack Attack

1:43 PM Fri, Oct 26, 2007 |

Over the next seven days, as I round out the Top Ten and prepare for our next Fone Zone, I will utilize comparisons to the 2005 Seahawks. I do so not to infer this is the same team, but to compare and contrast from a baseline season that took this franchise to the Super Bowl.

One defining element of the 2005 Seahawk defense was their ability to consistently get to, and sack, the quarterback. They finished '05 the best in the NFL in sacks, with 50 (3.1/gm) in sixteen games. After seven games, this year's unit sits second in the league with 23 sacks (3.3/gm). Yes, last week's seven sack performance against the Rams really helped the cause, but 12 other teams play the Rams this season and they can pile on the sacks too. Point is, again speaking to consistency, if these Hawks are sitting 1st or 2nd in the league in sacks at year end, they won't be sitting home for the playoffs.

And the truth will set you free. Just imagine if we would have played well on defense against pittsburgh or N.O., or even Arizona for that matter. This years defense has one thing that the 05" defense didnt have.....a couple of experienced safetys. At the end of the year we'll have around 55-60 sacks, tops in the league. Lets make Clevlands offense Tapp out.
