By the numbers: Patrick Kerney

Since we're in the middle of the slow news bye-week, I thought I'd take a quick look at the high-priced off-season addition of Patrick Kerney. You'll remember Grant Wistrom was let go in March and Kerney was signed -- pegged as a high-octane, pass rushing DE. So what has the six-year, $39.5 million player ($19.5 million in guarantees) brought to the team? According to NFL.com, four sacks and 24 tackles. In all of 2006, Wistrom had four sacks and 37 tackles. In Kerney's most productive year (Pro Bowl, 2004), the DE had 13 sacks and 58 tackles. The Hawks are much improved on defense over last year. In total defense the Hawks rank seventh in the NFC, 14th in the NFL. The Hawks ended the '06 campaign 19th in the NFL.

I think this is the greatest thing Seattle did during the off season. That and adding Grant and Russel have really made Seattle a lot better. Consistancy is now the key factor in being a top defensive team. I hope Seattle can find that in the second half of the year. GO SEAHAWKS!!!!
