Top Ten: #10 Special Teams

2:51 PM Wed, Oct 24, 2007 |

Beginning the Top 10 list, looking back at the first half of the season I felt it appropiate to place Special Teams #10. It has been at times both brilliant and game-changing, and at times frustrating. The brilliance has been the kicking of Josh Brown and the return game of Nate Burleson. Josh is 13 of 14 on the year, and his only miss was a kick that was blocked. Nate is 3rd in the NFL in kickoff return average and changed the Rams game with a 91-yard touchdown return. He also changed the Buccaneer game with a 57-yard punt return and has averaged over ten yards a punt return.

On the flip side, blocked kicks, tipped punts and a low snap for a Saints touchdown all highlight areas of inconsistency that need to be ironed out--as they were in the Rams game. This 2007 Seahawk team has enough depth at linebacker, wide receiver and in the secondary to be excellent in the coverage units, and because of that Special Teams in the second half of the season needs to be an area where games are not just managed, but where games are won.

special teams is one place that can win you alot of games, just ask the chicago bears. I think that our special teams are at the cusp of being a very "special" unit. Every time Nate touches the ball, he has the potential to break it.Down the stretch, I would'nt be surprised if nate had 2,3,maybe 4 more returns for touchdowns. When he gets going there isnt anyone on the field that can catch him!

If thats all we're using Nate for is special teams, I think thats a quite expensive price tag we pay for a special team's player / so-so wide out.. we should have matched Minnesota on Hutch..

Frustrated Seahawk fan, remember that the deal for Nate was only similiar to Hutch in form, not actual fact. The real contract amount is now only 15.x million, not the 40 something million that it was originally reported as.

It just had non-guaranteed portions so that it smacked Minnesota around like they did us. The reality is his contract is much smaller than the face value was.

Mike is callibng the plays ???? Why does he give it to Morris for a half yard? Morris can't find the bathroom. Is this Mikes fault? And Alexander needs to be traded. He didn't have the blocking like he had with Strong in college so why can;t he play consistebt with the big boys.
