Wednesday press conference

1:17 PM Wed, Sep 26, 2007 |

Just got back from Holmgren's Wednesday press conference. Coach said Maurice Morris and Ben Obomanu will practice today. Having Morris back on Sunday will allow the Hawks to change some schemes. When asked about Shaun, Holmgren said the RB was practicing blocking today with the cast. There were a couple of instances in the Bengals game where Shaun did not use his cast hand to block . D.J. Hackett is on schedule and may return close to the bye-week.

Coach called this week's match-up with the 49ers a "big game." He emphasized the need for consistency on the road and desire to see good tackling, considering the way the Hawks have given up lots of yards when away. He also wants to see more productivity with the pass rushing.

When questioned about Darrell Jackson, Holmgren said there would be little effect and that plays had not really changed. He spoke about the trade, mentioning he had not wanted to make it with a division rival but that a trade for DJack couldn't have been made otherwise.

About Gore: Coach said they underestimated the Niners RB last year and that won't happen this year. And that SF has a massive offensive line that can really push around a defense built on speed, if the players don't execute well.
