Marcus Tubbs Update

11:45 PM Thu, Aug 30, 2007 |

Seahawks defensive tackle Marcus Tubbs season could be in jeopardy. He sprained knee badly during the second quarter. Head Coach Mike Holmgren sounded really bummed after the game. He says it's hard to see a player like that come back from an injury (microfracture surgery on his left knee) and get hurt. Holmgren called Tubbs a talented player who, for whatever reason, is having a hard time staying on the field. He's having his knee scanned tonight. Holmgren says they'll know exactly what's going on by tomorrow (Friday). By the way, our NFL expert Brock Huard saw Tubbs on the sidelines after the injury tonight.

Huard thought the big d-tackle looked dejected and says that's probably not a good sign.

Isn't this the reason we have beefed up the D-line? Brendon Mebane, Darby and the rest are in there because I think in the back of everyones mind, we all knew something like this was going to happen. I hope he returns, but we can't expect anything else but to move on and work with what we've got.
Josh Wilson's injury is probably not serious. He'll be sore for awhile, but who isn't after playing a football game.
Mark Brunell? I don't think so. Cut Greene and make Devine our third string. At least he has a future. Brunell is simply too old and slow. Trust me, I live in Maryland (from Portland Oregon though) and I've watched the erosion of his skills. This is a young mans sport and despite only being 38, thats a relic by NFL standards.

You are right Morrell. The Hawks went out and got Mebane in the draft, because at the time, no one was sure how Tubbs knee would react after microfracture surgery. Too bad he tore the ACL on his other knee (at least that's what's being reported by the newspapers). We should find out for sure on Saturday if that's the case. The whole Brunell deal has to be Holmgren wanting a backup who understands the game. That way, Holmgren can use the true backup QB, Seneca Wallace, as a "slash" type of role. If it's not Brunell, it'll be another veteran. I think when David Greene didn't play Thursday, that spoke volumes about his future in Seattle. But who knows, we'll have to wait for Saturday's cuts. Thanks for your post...keep them coming.
