D-Jack Ditched, Not Good For Hawks

7:02 PM Mon, Apr 30, 2007 |

So Darrell Jackson..the Hawks wide receiver who's logging Steve Largent numbers as one of the most productive receivers in franchise history...is going to help Seattle's division rival, the 49ers pick up the NFC West title next season. And what did the Seahawks get in return?? A fourth round draft pick. Sweet. D-Jack led the team with a career-high 10 touchdowns last season and is just now reaching the prime of his career at 28 years old. On the day of the announcement, there was obvious tension between Tim Ruskell and Mike Holmgren. Ruskell said he just wasn't a good fit for the seven years he was in Seattle, and while Holmgren agreed that Jackson was a bit of a mis-fit, the coach still preferred Matt Hasselbeck's favorite target on his side. So, okay, Darrell did ask to be traded last year, but after the Hawks picked up Deion Branch and Nate Burleson, he felt pushed out. I like Darrell...he's a gamer. And I say that for two reasons...he produces mad numbers at clutch times in key games and, also, because he is one of those guys that just not much for practice. So fault him for the latter...but don't shoot yourselves in the foot because he won't smile at you as you pass in the hallway. As everyone says...it's business, right?

Jackson had the numbers. Jackson knows how to play the game of football. So what if he has a little attitude. Coach Holmgren has every right to feel the way he did about the trade... It's not Ruskell on the practice field or game field every day is it? How would I feel (in comparison to D-Jack) about bringing in someone ELSE who got a contract that BELONGED to him in the first place? NO WONDER why he wanted to be traded!!! Football IS a business, and when you don't conduct business the right way, you will have attitudes, and you will lose KEY players. Do we need to talk about Ken Griffey Jr? Randy Johnson? I think there might be a virus of somekind in the Puget Sound area...

I am not super sad to see him go. I don't like it that he went to a division rival, but if he wanted out - I say let him out.

I like to be positive and look towards the future. We got talent in the receiver corps, no doubt about it. It wasn't D Jack that I saw making incredible catches at the end of last season, it was Hackett. It wasn't D Jack that that chased down a DB that picked Matt and stripped the ball for a Seattle recovery, it was Branch. We got guys on this team who play hard and have a big future ahead of them. 10 TD's in a season for one guy does not win superbowls, a team with great chemistry and teamwork win superbowls.

I am not doubting D Jack's talent, because he has a lot - and it sucks that we have to face him twice a year now. But lets not forget the talent the rest of our receivers have. Not to mention, one more big shot to that knee could mean the end of D Jack's TD's for a long time.

Got to agree with hawkfan83. I'm not happy with seeing him leave and even less humorous about the fact that we get to see him twice a year now in the division with a team that is knocking on our door for 1st in the West. However, has everyone forgotten about all the dropped passes this guy has had over the years here? How about all the games he has missed in the last few years due to injury? Yes, he and Matt did click when he was in the lineup but how dependable can he truly be...especially if he isn't happy here? I wish D-Jack the best of luck for 14 of his 16 games in 07! IF he plays in all 16 games that is. Who's to say he doesn't get hurt in the pre-season and is lost for the year...do I wish that on him...no! Yes, we have lost a weapon in D-Jack but we still have Deion, Hackett, Bobby...I think we'll be ok. This team always comes together...they always will. "Gotta play the cards your dealt"-Chuck Knox

I'm sad to see him go. I met him in person just one month ago at daniel's broiler in Bellevue. He sat down at the table next to us. I said hellp as we left and went to leave and he stopped me. He asked me my name, my occupation and we chatted for a minute or two. Seriously one of the nicest guys I've met. And beyond personal like of the guy, let's not forget HE CAUGHT 3RD MOST TDs IN ALL OF THE NFL LAST YEAR, and he missed what 3-4 games!?!? I think it was a huge mistake. I'm going to have a hard time not rooting for him when he is on the field regardless of what uniform he's wearing.

It's sad to see such a great talent leave, especially when he goes to a divisional rival. However, it's not like he has the most talented QB throwing to him, plus he'll be the obvious number one target when he gets to the 49ers. So, everyone stop and put your thinking caps on for a moment: With our obvious surge in CB's and FS's, along with our improvement on the defensive line, I think we'll at least have half a chance at covering him and/or keeping the ball from getting to him in the first place. Also, I have to TOTALLY agree with Hawkfan83, it's team chemistry that wins Super Bowls, not individual talent. Team records are meant to be broken. Even had he stayed long enough to break all of Steve Largent's records, someone would have broken his soon enough. We need to focus on what we have in our already deep receiving core, along with our improved offensive line. Should I also mention that we now have solid player at TE? Just an FYI to all. Anyways, we have also made strides to improve our special teams and have vastly improved our defence. We have a lot to look forward to in 07! So, lets focus on what we do have and not so much on what we don't have. Lisa Gangel, less negative and more positive. We don't need negative media types causing moral issues now, especially when we are potentially on the verge of a great season in which we could possibly win it all.

I'm sad to see a fan favorite go and I really like DJack and always will but it is a business and just take a look at all the other fan favorites that have called Seattle home in the past they've moved on and the only thing you can do as a fan is move on. "Money" calls for these players and as long as "Money" is the issue it will far out-weigh anything anyone does or says. I know that our "D" will give him hell when he lines up as receiver against us!
