Jerramy Stevens: What They're Saying

3:23 PM Wed, Mar 14, 2007 |

Today I thought I'd check out what others are saying about the troubled tight end named Jerramy. With Leather is a little harsh on Stevens. Mike Sando's blog on the Tacoma News Tribune has the police report. Steve Kelly of the Seattle Times piles on calling him an "inveterate knucklehead." Rob Hurtt from the Sporting News makes a keen observation. He says "Any teams that had interest in Stevens must be reconsidering, although the Bengals might be more interested now." Funny because it's true. Who knows, maybe Britney Spears needs a new friend, too. OK, that was an easy and predictable shot. P-I scribe Art Thiel calls Stevens the "saddest Seahawk of them all." Times reporter Danny O'Neill breaks down the former Husky's checkered past. It's a timeline of his arrests and court dates. Just in case you want to reminisce here's a link to the Jerramy Stevens vs. Joey Porter war of words prior to Super Bowl XL. It even has the video! Maybe we can talk Pearl Jam into remaking their song "Jeramy" and make it about Stevens. Have fun with that one.

Jeremy is a talented player and can contribute big plays...WHEN he can keep his head in the game. The Seahawk organization has had its share of players that have had brushes with the law. Some have taken thier punishment and cleaned up thier acts. Others(like Koren) continued down the wrong path. I am a big Jeremy fan, but sorry to say he has had his chances and has failed to step up to the plate. Seattle does not need another year of distractions at tight end (will he or wont he catch the ball?)...solidify the position. Time to let him go and honestly hope with a fresh change he can turn his life around before he really hurts somebody and not just his career.

It wouls seem that these young, very rich, men would learn that with thier status as pro athletes comes a certain responsibility to the public a large if not just the fans, who help pay these inflated salaries. For god's sake hire a full time cabbie or driver if you are going to go drinking or out to these clubs, trouble spots in themselves for an evening of what seems to be mostly stupid decisions, not helped by alcohol and drugs.Give those of us who at one time liked or even admired and envied your talent a reason to continue to do so.

Ron, you have some good points. A part of me thought Holmgren was gonna give him one last chance. Hasselbeck constantly said nice things about the former Husky. But when he got busted in Arizona, that was the last straw. Tom...at times I agree with you. They do make a ton of money and should call a cab or limo or whatever. But when you're that young, your pockets are filled with cash and everyone tells you "your the greatest", your ego has a hard time with admitting you need help. I'm just saying, everyone makes mistakes. Hopefully, for Jerramy's sake, he'll come out of it like a champ.
