My first thought was, "What were Tyrone Willingham's initial thoughts?" Last month, Jim Mora, Jr. told his good buddy and old UW roommate, Hugh Millen, that his dream job was to coach the Washington Huskies. Oh wait...he didn't just tell Hugh, but he shared his ambition with the entire Pacific Northwest during a live interview on KJR. Jim, a little tip...when you're "on the air" that means, whether people are listening or not, they are hearing what you're saying. Maybe he didn't know that the Huskies already have a coach or maybe he didn't care. But, of course, the whole thing blew up and fizzled with Mora quipping that it was "just a joke." That was later followed with a kick in the pants...and don't let the door hit ya on the way out. Mora was fired by the Falcons after three season. The team finished 7-9 and failed to advance to the playoffs for the second consecutive season. So, a guy considered to have failed at the Falcons now becomes the most high-profile "assistant head coach/secondary" under Mike Holmgren. He didn't get his dream job with the Huskies, so Mora "settled" for a gig down the street. Mora fills the void left by the former defensive backs coach, Teryl Austin, who was not offered a contract for the 2007 season and last week signed with the Cardinals. Here's where the questions flow like Britney Spears' tears in a Matt Lauer interview. Was Mora hired to eventually replace Mike Holmgren? Is Holmgren planning to fulfill the 2 years left on his contract extension? Who really will be in charge of the Hawks' defense? Defensive coordinator, John Marshall or newly introduced ex-head honcho, Mora? And, if the Huskies stack yet another sub-par season, will Mora's presence across the lake pressure Todd Turner to bring on the alum? These questions are just that, questions. But it's worth the chatter. Mora has done his deal in the NFL for 21 seasons, and, all the while, has considered Seattle "home." But only time will tell which side of the lake he really considers "home"....and whether or not the NFL is his last stop. 52 Comments |
I don't know if it's considered being pessimistic or what but why does it seem a good portion of the people that comment on these blogs and even some of the reporters like this one (Lisa Gangel) that post the blogs seem to have such bad expectations of the Seahawks. Yes, I know their history but lately they've been one of the best teams in the NFC. (You all know the Saint's performance against the Bears just made that point even more clear.) I've been known to use reverse psychology but I won't dog on the Seahawks like the majority of the so-called "fans" that comment on here. I haven't lived in Washington state since 2000 but I'll be back there by the end of this month and I can't wait... I've been the BEST ambassador for the state of Washington and Seattle sports teams since 2000 and finally living there again will be AWESOME. I do have one question before I end this posting... why doesn't Paul Allen just buy the Sonics too so we don't have to worry about them moving to Hickville, Oklahoma???
GO SEAHAWKS!!!
the only reason why Seattle had a "sub par" season was because of injuries. Stopping the Cowboys with a DEMOLISHED secondary isn't sub par... at all. Let me ask you something Lisa, is Seneca Wallace, and Maurice Morris coming up big for us when Hasselbeck and Alexander were hurt "sup par"? Was winning the Wild Card playoff game with out Marcus Trufant and Kelly Jennings? Was going as far as we did with an O-Line that was shifted everywhere "Sup Par" (Hutch going to the Vikings, Robbie Tobeck being out for the Season, Walter Jones playing Left Guard instead of Left Tackle).
This season was a good season. The Seahawks were PLAGUED with injuries and yet we still managed to take the NFC west and advance past the Wild Card round. Last time I checked Alexander can still run, Hasselbeck and still play like he did last year, Lofa and Peterson are still great linebackers, our receiving squad is still great (Deion Branch, D Jack, DJ Hackett, Nate Burleson, Bobby Engram).
Robbie Tobeck you lead our O - Line well, you will be missed
GO HAWKS
I read your comments Lisa, and I don't think that you said a word about the Seahawks being "sub-par". I do think that Mora will be an asset to the team and now am really looking forward the the new season. The team did a great job considering all the problems with injuries but this is a good team and the owner wants to build a winning franchise for years to come!
You guys she said if, i say when, the Huskies have a sub par season. Will Mora head across the lake. Mora is going to be great for the hawks. GO COUGS
Hey Ryan,
Almost ALWAYS teams have problems during the season. That is part of the game. The Eagles went without Donavan the last half of the season. The Giants/colts lost many of thier defensive personnel during the begining of the year.
That is why it is called a TEAM game. You will be hard pressed to find a team that did not have problems. It is how you overcome adversity and still be able to go all the way regardless of the situation. Everything else is nothing but excuses.
It is also about having a Quality depth chart on your TEAM. (I.e like a Jeff Garcia behind Donavan at the eagles or Reggie Bush and Duece McCalister duo)
It shouldn't be that you lose a player(s) and you go from a great team to an average team. If that happens then there are definately weak links in your TEAM. It may be (not saying its true)that Maurice Morris was a weak link or Wallace. It does not matter who it was. At the end of the day you are only as strong as your weakest link(s).
These are things that should be looked at. There has to be some contingencies.
I have to admit the corner backs issue was unique. But, really defense was not really the biggest problem. Putting points on the board was the problem. It wasn't until the late in the season that they lost thier cornerbacks anyway.
But, before I end this post. My wife is a Hawk fan and I really hate it when people start talking about playoff apperances and great regular season play. We all know what happen to the Saints. Who cares about them now? Will you ever hear anything about the saints and this season again? I think not.......This is result oriented game/bussiness. It is a show me game, show me a CHAMP!
Adding to my last comment, I am a Cowboy fan. I don't even like talking about who we beat last year or what happen in the playoffs becasue none of it matters. We did not go all the way, PERIOD. I definately don't want to talk about it if we make it to the big game and lose.
I only want to talk about it if we win the big game, becasue that matters!
Anyway, take care and good luck next season Hawks! Hope to play you again.
Rick, Your analysis of the "Saints performance against the Bears" go any deeper than the ass spank score? Did you watch the game? You didn't catch the intensity level Chicago was playing at? lmao, ok. Everybody has a "plan" until their nose is flattened. That's what happened to the Saints "performance". You think the Saints just had a "bad game"? Yeah. It was a bad game. For the Saints. They were getting their asses handed to them anyway, & then decided to piss the defense off. Then they had a really bad game. Big reason for that "performance against the Bears" you reference to. Chicago got dissed all week before the Saints game. The people here in Washington aren't stupid. If they watched that game, they know what happened. So when you say (You all know the Saints performance against the Bears just made that point even more clear). Game was played Sunday. You're the only bonehead i've heard, watched on tv, or read since that day (and i've been immersed in everything Bears, post-game Saints, and SB XLI) that wants to insinuate the Bears did what they did to New Orleans because the Saints played badly. The rest of your analysis about "negativity" from the reporting on all things Seahawks... I see it, too. It's almost a "fatalist" attitude that emerges even if it's a good thing happening or about to happen. Great set-up for failure & usually one of the first "excuses" grabbed out of the bag when things go south. Anyway, leave the Bears out of your, "we could be goin to the SB cuz the Saints sucked bad enough for the lowly Bears to beat them back to the bayou", insinuation. Nothing farther from the truth. Had Chicago "cranked it up" on the Hawks like they did the Saints, may not have been another 37-6, but it would have been very similar.
The score is what I'm talking about and yes I watched the ENTIRE game. They didn't "crank" anything up against the Saints compared to the game against the Seahawks. The Saints just fell apart and their blowout loss just made the Seahawks OT loss look even more impressive. BUT, your reaction to my comments from a Bears fan perspective only solidifies how DENSE the Bears fans are... where do you think "da bears" came from??? OLD... DRUNK... BEARS FANS THAT CAN'T SPEAK COHERENTLY (DA=THE???).
SORRY TRY AGAIN,
Rick
The game is exactly what I was talking about (bettinondabearsss). The Saints falling apart against the Bears only made the Seahawks OT loss look even more impressive. (Remember, the Saints were the cinderella team not the Seahawks... you couldn't expect just luck and a feel-good story to carry them to Miami could you???) It's ok though, I can't go to into detail, you are a Bears fan and we all know the stereotypical Bears fan. (OLD... DRUNK... SITTIN AT SOME NASTY BAR ALL DAY AND NIGHT NOT EVEN SPEAKING COHERENTLY--FYI: DA DOES NOT EQUAL THE.) Oh yeah, you can't quote words if you're not even QUOTING anything from someone else... it looks like you didn't that alot in your little posting.
Rick

I think agree to some part the every team incures injuries and that is just part of the game. But you can't honestly believe that if let's say the Colts lost payton manning and joseph adai and reggie wayne and jeff saturday all at the same time that they would have made the superbowl. Eagles lost McNabb, but not westbrook, stallworth, and runyan. The seahawks injuries were signifigant. However, tackling on defense is what I believe is the biggest shortcoming of the '06 Seahawks.
TACKLING ON "DEFENSE",...AS OPPOSED TO TACKLING ON OFFENSE? WHEN ELSE DO YOU TACKLE? YOU'RE EXACTLY RIGHT THOUGH, THIS TIME, JASON, ALTHOUGH THAT WAS'NT ALL THAT WAS WRONG WITH THE 06 HAWKS. IT ALL STARTED WITH THE CHEMISTRY IN THE O LINE, AND THAT STARTED AN AVALANCHE OF INJURIES TO ALOT OF OUR PLAYERS. WE'LL BE BACK. GO...HAWKS! THE BEARS WERE TRYING AGAINST US, IT'S JUST THAT THEY DON'T PLAY TWO GOOD GAMES IN A ROW, JUST LIKE US!!REX GROSSMAN STINKS, WITHOUT ANY INJURIES TO BLAME IT ON. WITHOUT DEFENSIVE TURNOVERS, AND SPECIAL TEAMS SCORE, THE BEARS WOULD BE IN THE REST OF THE GUTTER THAT IS THEIR DIVISION. BUT, HEY, THEY GOT IT DONE, AND CONGRATS. OH, DID I MENTION WE'LL BE BACK NEXT YEAR?? GO...SEAHAWKS! (GO...COLTS!)
Well Lisa, I really believe you did your job here...stirring up the pot and giving people something to talk about. I am ecstatic about Jim Mora coaching for the Hawks. I believe he will be a great asset to our defense, team and community for years to come. This is the best coaching hire by Seattle since they brought in Coach H from Green Bay! Go Hawks!!!
I for one am glad Seattle picked up Jim Mora Jr. as an assistant. I think we will see an improvement in the defense.
Look out, NFL. 'Hawks are gonna take it all in '07.
GO SEAHAWKS!!!
Yeah yeah... have a nice "trip"... see ya next "fall". and Bobby Sims. Go recheck the qb stats from the playoffs. Manning and Brady combined for 1 td and 7 int's going into the AFC Championship. (then 3 LINEMEN score td's in their big game). Then look at Grossman's numbers. Best QB in the Playoffs. "Careful Rex" got it done. Chicago... Best team in this now and still no respect. I F'N LOVE IT!!! Hope the (bawling bleeding rabble they left in their wake, and the "Experts") ride them right up the Colts backside. Who needs "bulletin board" material? Thanks! Colts aren't stupid. They'll be quiet. Y'all are signing their death warrant. They don't need to say anything. If you think Chicago beat the Saints because the saints had a "bad game", NFL N is running the replay again a few times later today. I think it's clear they DID have a very bad game. Unless you're a moron, or didn't even watch the game, it's pretty evident there was a very good reason for their "bad game". Chicago. 49 takeaways and counting. Kinda hard to win a Super Bowl if you can't keep the ball. Tune in the 4th and see who wants it more. Peyton "cut that meat" Manning, or The Chicago Bears.
Rick, You think the Saints simply fell apart? You're fucking stupid. Good luck. Kevin, Kettle Falls
Dense is your head in the sand, (or some other dark place). I live among you whining excuse makers. What you THOUGHT you saw in that game proves some Seahawks fans wouldn't know what a football was if the surgeon showed it to them after retrieving it, and their pet gerbyl from where their head usually is.
LMAO I love the rapid digression from the original subject of this blog to the primitive insult volleys.... It's quite entertaining!!
35-13 Colts, bears are due for a bad game, rex is lucky his receivers go after the ball and catch it, hes just wings the ball down the feild and prays his guys come down with it. rex is not a very good QB
bettinondabearsss,
I thought we had already hashed all this out? No more juvenile, pre-pubescent banter only adult conversation and making points that really matter. Then you go and start talking about gerbils, footballs and heads in forbidden places. Come on now, I thought you were cool? Don't devolve into what you got over last week. It is cool to defend your team, but please no more personal attacks, there is no need to make this personal.
Hawker37... remember he's a Bears fan (dense, drunk and short-fused), you can't use those big words when communicating with him... it just won't get through. bettinondabearsss... YES, the Saints fell apart, from that intentional grounding that resulted in a safety to the end of the game it was all downhill (at least to anyone that actually WATCHED the game not just the final score like it seems you did). Do me a favor, before you come back on here and post something... a) GET YOUR G.E.D. b) QUIT QUOTING EVERY OTHER WORD YOU TYPE c) QUIT POSTING LIKE YOUR 12 YEARS OLD
Rick
Sorry Rick, I don't drink, and if anybody needs to "TRY AGAIN", well, as usual Seattle will be the ones that will have to. Yes, the Saints "fell apart". Ok. Gusee Chicago had nothing to do with this "breakdown". You win. Wish we all had the deep knowledge of your argument. Guess it comes from 31 years of excuse-making. Funny. Only place there has been any ridiculous "Saints had a bad game" talk, is here. Make lame excuses for your own sad program. The Saints can make their own.
Yes Rick. Very impressive LOSS. Glad Chicago could help, and be on the field with your Seahawks while they shocked the football world with their stellar defeat.
Now, be a good little Seahack fan, and get back to work on next season's excuses. Maybe Chicago and a few other teams can help you attain some more classic, close losses. And Hawker, if you bothered to read this stuff in the order it was posted, you'll see the attempted insults started by your dim-bulb buddy, Rick. Guess that's ok, though. Gl losers. Guess ya gotta have something. Even if it is manufactured to make Seattle, even in a loss, appear to have won something. 2ff
Everyone in their right mind knows the Bears have no offense and whatever does seem to appear as offense is just miscommunication on behalf of the opposing team's DB's which makes it seem as though they got as they say "burned" even though it all came down to miscommunication and it makes the most pathetic QB of the playoffs (REX GROSSMAN) look better than he usually plays (HORRIBLY). Also, these aren't excuses I'm just telling you how it is... your team, the Bears, are all defense... no offense... and a good chunk of LUCK. (27-24 in OT over the Seahawks on the Bears home field shouldn't satisfy anyone that claims to be a Bears fan, seeing that earlier in the season on that very same field the Seahawks got throttled 37-6 and you can't tell me a Shaun Alexander at maybe 60-70% in the playoffs makes up for the 37-6 loss without him playing at all. The Bears just got outplayed and it all came down to a lucky field goal to come out on top.)
And one more thing, dim bulb, DA BEARS is a reference that came from a TV show sketch, Superfans. That TV show has aired on tv since before... well, since before Seattle came up with their first excuse for losing. The show is on NBC. It's called Saturday Night Live. (This is just for rick. I know you're all not this stupid) The show is still on, they still do the sketches, and you can go back to watching your rerun of Frasier, and cleaning the latte' out of uour laptop. As for your lame excuse for being drubbed 37-6... wah wah wah... Sean Alexander... wa wah waah wah. Your backup rb got more yards in that game than Alexander had been getting in his previous "healthy" condition. You're lucky he WAS out. And as for "outplayed" by Seattle and getting a lucky f/g, or whatever the drivel, man, you're just living in your own little world. Maybe you shouldn't come back. The Hawks have enough problems. They'll be ok. LMAO... Sonics going to "Hickville, Ok."? That where you're moving back from? Take care and lay off the Sportscenter. Those guys lie! GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!
As for claiming to be a Bears fan. I am. As for being satisfied with a 24-27 ot win in the Divisional Playoff Game, over the defending NFC Champion, yes, very satisfied. No 2 games are ever the same. Those games (playoffs) are special. Guys hide injuries from Trainers & Coaches to make sure they get in THE game. Seattle should be satisfied with that game as well. Saw some with some sense even say that here right after the game. Definitely more satisfying than counting on another team's misfortune to keep me moving on. Rather have the D take care of that. It's 3rd & short. Maybe you oughtta' just punt. GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!
You whine about "excuses" I made but your posting at 4:28PM was nothing but excuses... maybe you're really a woman with that so-called "prerogative" to change your mind whenever you see fit about ANYTHING. I know that "da bears" BS came from SNL I was just informing you that da isn't a word... but of course, you already knew that. How can you try and say the Bears are so brilliant but they need a lucky field goal in overtime to beat the Seahawks??? I'm sure you'll change your mind on that too, how about you just go to the local dollar store and BUY A PAIR ALREADY (yes... from a dollar store that would suit your type perfectly). Come back on here when you actually make sense and learn how to SPELL.
Spelling? Why? You one of ones that think it's spelled "definately", too. You're SO awesome we really should meet.
And if you see what I said as an excuse, at least it's an excuse for winning. What's more of your excuses, loser?
Seattle won the toss and had their opportunity for a "lucky" f/g, first. In true Seahawks fashion, couldn't stand prosperity. "Lucky" was Seattle even going to the Divisional Playoff game at all. Say "Thank you, Romo". And yes, o literate one, "da" IS a word. Just not in any language you'll ever know. As for a "pair". I'll show ya mine if you show me yours.
I don't normally come here, and I'm not even a seahawks fan but... bettin, you seem like a real dick. Don't you have better things to do?
Better thing to do? It was 2:09 a.m. when you posted. Seems you don't have anything better to do. Yes, I'm here, and may seem like a "dick", as you say, but was "dared" to come back here after each Playoff weekend went by. If you bothered to read any more posts than mine, you'll find this blog is "Dick" laden. At least I still have a reason to talk about football. Our season is still going. And like the Bears, I'm not finished. After next Sunday I will be back here to do just that. And if you're not normally here, and not even a Seahawks fan, then put yourself w/ them and consider yourself another "non factor". As for "nothing better" to do w/ my time... pay a fraction of my bills, then you can try to tell me what I can do with my spare time.
Somebody is bitter and needs to go to counseling. Coming on here and trying to put down all the Seahawks fans on this blog. Only you would know if this blog was "dick laden" since that is something you are fascinated with. It seems like your crap attitude has only gotten worse since our last confrontation and it is really getting old.
Wasn't talking to you, or this other thing that just out of the blue calling me names. Am I supposed to ignore these assholes because it upsets you. Too f'n bad. Anything i've said that isn't of your liking is due to whatever crap i'm dealing with that I'M NOT STARTING. If you don't like what I'm saying, go cry to whoever you need to. It's what you guys excel at, anyway. F'n losers.
If losing in a Super Bowl makes us "losers" than you will be joining the club in the coming weeks. The Bears suck and do not deserve to be in the Super Bowl. It is you that sounds like a whiny little bitch on this blog, so it sounds like and is evidenced by your blogging that you excel at losing. You "F'n loser".
Look... win a Super Bowl. You know, one of those things Seattle doesn't have? When the Seahawks have one of those, only then would a Chicago SB loss put me in your illustrious club... go try again. Who's the loser? That's right. Now back to your Frasier rerun.
bettinondabears is an ass... just ignore him..... he's upset because he knows the bears are gonna lose this sunday and then he won't have anything to do or watch way out there in the sticks......
I got some wood i need chopping here in issaquah.... country boy!!!!!!
Bring it, girly boy.
Don't care if they lose. My SB was giving the Snivelhawks their exit. Everything from there on is gravy. And just because you've never been out of Issaquah don't assume everyone has always lived right where they are. Some people actually move around to other states! You need to get out more. Run upstairs and ask mommy. She'll tell ya. Then come back here and try to be clever, and stroke your loser friends. Your buddy Hawker37 is in some special olympic wrestling thing. Hang out w/ him. Guarantees excellent parking, too.
Tell me where to meet you and I will show you what kind of "special olympic wrestling thing" I am in. If you equate mixed martial arts fighting with special olympic wrestling then you will have a rude awakening when I do a tap dance on your face and you pick your teeth out of the back of your throat, bitch.
After that we will all hang out with you because we can get great parking because of the placard hanging on your review mirror. Although watching you blend your food and suck it through a straw will make me puke...forget it I don't want to hang around you, you suck to hard.
Easy part done. Your kind love the easy part. Sounds dreadfully horrifying. Am I supposed to be impressed, afraid, or both?
sounds to me like hawker is doing a better job of not only making you look like an ass but also doing a better job of talking some good s&^$%....
if i were you you, i would go find a nice dark hole and prepare to hibernate.....
i can't wait to see what you have to say when your beloved bears lose on sunday...... and they will lose....... believe me...... i paid off the refs... Bad Fan.... no Trophy for you......
You would think he sounds better. Must be the resonance carrying down to his ass where you decided to put your head. No trophy for you, definitely, but that's gone without being said for over 30 years. Funny, he never told me about his tag-team bitch. And finding a dark hole to hide in would be something you or she would do. Probably there together right now. 12th manhole.
So these are your thoughts about Jim Mora coming back up here to try and help you schlubs. No wonder you're losers.
After you are done giving the Bears offesive line reach-arounds maybe you can enlighten us "schlubs" with your thougts on Mora since that is what you came on here to talk about. Besides you are just jealous that no one on this blog shares your philosophies on life. Besides isn't the metrosexual convention you have tickets for tonight? Have fun waxing, weaving and buffing. It is imperative that you look your best for the upcoming Super Bowl party. We will all be here to here you whine when it is over.
I agree with Mike as to who is winning the war of words between bettinondabearsss and Hawker37. Sounds to me like bettindabears has diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain.
Bears are gonna get OWNED by the Colts.
gee, wonder where "bettinondabearsss" is tonight? could he be hiding his head? or could he be washing dishes in some restaurant to pay for all that he lost betting on the Bears ? seems to me that the Colts really studied the tapes of the Bears-Seahawks game; only I thought Seattle did a better job defensively, against those hulks from Chicago ... and please note, "hulk" in this case refers to height and weight, NOT to any other attribute
it'll be interesting to see what other comments show up ... with any luck, they'll be G rated
bettinondabearsss is probably crying in his beer right now. Funny how all these last two weeks he was on here talking all kinds of garbage about how his team was great for beating the Seahawks, and now that his beloved Bears have lost, he disappears.
The Super Bowl was just as I predicted. The Bears DID get owned by the Colts, not only in the final score, but time of possession, number of plays the offense ran, total yards and number of first downs. I'm glad the Colts won.
I've decided I'm rooting for the AFC until the Seahawks make it back to the Super Bowl. I realize it may be a long time, but I don't care.
Let me clarify. I will always root for the Seahawks, no matter what. I'm just saying that I will root for the AFC team in the Super Bowl until the Seahawks make a return trip to the Super Bowl
