Glancing at next season

3:27 PM Sun, Jan 14, 2007 |

Why I like looking ahead to next year. During the end of the season, the offensive line seemed to gel. Baring injury, the Seahawks'll have more weapons than ever. Matt's timing with Deon and Nate will only grow. Jerramy seems to be coming into his own. Shaun should be healthy, and I have to think he still has 'it'. It'd be nice to have a healthy Walter Jones. The defense ended the year on a roll. So many of the pieces of the Super Bowl puzzle are already in place, I can't help but imagine another post-season appearance in '08. Questions: Will Mack come back? Can the Hawks find help in the secondary and on the D-line? (If Tubbs comes back, do they need help?) Kudos to the coaching staff, they did a great job with injuries that would have floored lesser teams.

I agree. Even though the loos was disappointing, the way the Hawks played the game was fantastic! They battled all kids of demons, from training camp to this game and overcame. All those who thought the Bears would have a cake walk were probably biting their nails.
Next season, having learned the lessons of this one, will only go to make them more capable and stonger.
We, who are true 12th men and women, continue to believe!

WE HAD SOME CHANCES, WE COULD'VE WON IT AT THE END OF REGULATION, BUT DID'NT EXECUTE, AND THAT'S HOW YOU LOSE ON THE ROAD IN THE PLAYOFFS. WE GAVE 'EM ALL THEY WANTED, BUT THEY GOT US. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CHICAGO BEARS. MAYBE SOMEONE FROM OUR CONFERENCE CAN WIN THE SUPERBOWL THIS YEAR. I LIKE OUR CHANCES NEXT YEAR, THOUGH, BUT I'M NOT RESOLVED TO THINKING ON IT YET. THIS YEAR HAS BEEN GUT WRENCHING, AND I THINK WE DID ALMOST AS GOOD AS WE COULD WITH WHAT WE HAD. OUR TEAM MAKES MORE MISTAKES THAN WE SHOULD, BUT WE ARE A GUTSY BUNCH, WHO NEVER GIVES UP 'TILL THE FINAL WHISTLE, WE'VE BEEN QUALITY PEOPLE, AS MUCH AS OR MORE THAN PLAYERS, WE'VE STUCK TOGETHER THROUGH ALL THE ADVERSITY, AND HAVE'NT POINTED FINGERS OR TOOK SHOTS AT EACH OTHER OR OUR COACHES IN PUBLIC, AND FOR THAT ALONE, IN TODAY'S SPORTS CULTURE, THE SEAHAWKS DESERVE PRAISE. WE HAVE A QUALITY ORGANIZATION, WITH GREAT GUYS ON AND OFF THE FIELD, AND I LIKE TO SEE A SITUATION LIKE THAT DO WELL. IT WAS HARD TODAY, AND STILL IS, BUT I FULLY BELIEVE WE'LL BE BACK. WITH A FULL COMPLIMENT OF HEALTHY PLAYERS AVAILABLE TO US, WE SHOULD SHINE. IF YOU STOP AND EXAMINE THE WRECKAGE STREWN ACROSS THE NFL SEASON THAT WAS OUR ORIGINAL TEAM, IT BOGGLES THE MIND THAT WE COULD HAVE BEEN NEAR THE PLAYOFFS, LET ALONE GET TO THE DIVISIONAL ROUND. IF WE CAN GET MIKE GREEN HEALTHY, AND PICK UP A REALLY GOOD CORNERBACK, AND ONE MORE BIG DEFENSIVE END, WE SHOULD BE O.K. WE'LL SEE! GO........SEAHAWKS!!!!!!!!!

This is for Coach Holmgren I have to give you kudos for a great season you have kept me on my toes and I bet others too. You have made the Seahawks a great team and I hope to see you with us for years on end. Remember the 12th man is always behind you and our beloved Hawks. WE WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR TO TAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO SUPERBOWL 42.

WE BELEIVE IN YOU SEAHAWKS

Hey I can't complain at all not one commentator gave our boys a chance this year they were even predicting 4-12. Like coach said in the post game we just didn't execute when we had too, and thats the nature of the playoffs. Next year we will get it, we just had to many injuries and the o-line needed to gel, lots to look foward to next year. GO HAWKS and for this year Go Pats

Bobby Simms, you hit the nail squarely on the head. I am proud of the Seahawks getting as far as they did, with all the adversity and injuries they all faced throughout the season. And to approach it all with class; it is refreshing to see a team exude such class, especially in a day and age in professional sports when it is easy for players to rip on their teammates and their coaches in public, be it on TV, on the radio, in the newspaper or magazine (something we saw the NY Giants do all season, what a mess that whole deal was). I will say this: The Seattle Seahawks can look at themselves in the mirror and say, "You know what, we played one heckuva game today," because they absolutely brought it to the Bears today; too bad they came up just a little short.

Here's looking to next year; here's hoping for a return to the playoffs and a run to the Super Bowl!

GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!!

I see the Cowboys "LOSER" is still hanging around. Yanker, did you mow the yard and find your pickup, yet? Great game Hawks fans. The Seahawks played their a**es off today. Congrats on making it this far with all that's gone wrong.

hahahaha hawks suck!! get used to the loss haha... hawks are getting old while my cowboys are still young but yeah all i can say is hawks lost you all knew they would so stop cryin like babies go bears! haha

Mike said:

The Seahawks played well and I am disappointed my second favorite team did not win. However, it was obvious that this year was not there year. Blame it on injuries, up and down play, lack of chemistry in the offensive line, it still adds up to the fact this was not the same team as last year.

People point to the pickup of Branch, Julian Peterson, etc. as making last years team even stronger. In reality, the loss of some of their most valuable players more than equaled the gains. One radio announcer hit it on the head when he mentioned the Seahawks did not seem to have any idea of what to do on 3rd and short. I used to complain last year that the Seahawks were so predictable on short yardage but they always came through. They did not seem to care if the other team knew they would run over the left side because they knew they were better. Today, it looked like they were guessing for an answer every time they went up on 3rd or 4th and short.

As an aside the Hutch trade was one of those rare ones that turned out to be a lose/lose trade. Hutch made a ton of money but he went to a team that has no chance of making the playoffs anwhere in the near future and he did not win nearly the acclaim that he could have had he stayed. Except for the gobs of money it was a lose for him. The Seahawks lost also because not only was he a great offensive lineman but he was tough nosed and mean. Another announcer mentioned how much class the Seahawks organization had which I agree with and approve of. However, they also did not seem as tough as a number of teams they played. On two downs if you can't get a yard then you are plain not tough. (I agreed with Holmgren's call to go for it and the failure to get the one yard is indicative of the season)

Finally, with apologies to the Blog editor I disagree with his optimism. Granted the injuries can't get any worse than this year and the timing will improve. However, this year the Hawks played in arguable the worst division in the NFL. I don't think the Rams, Niners, and Arizona can be any worse. The schedule did not get any easier next year and could be more difficult than this year. They could also jerk Josh Brown around with his free agency and lose him, some members of the defensive line are getting old, the offensive line while better is still is not as good as with Tobeck and Hutch, the special teams need to get better with the exception of Brown, and the secondary showed signs of breakdown at times. While they did fine with all their challenges I don't think it is any easier just because they will start out healthy and their timing is better.

Of course they could be worse. They could be like my favorite team the Vikings and just plain suck every year. Good luck Hawks next year.

SEAHAWKS,

12th man is proud of you, you had alot of injuries to overcome and noone ever seems to give you the respect you deserve... you played your ass off and it was a good game and that is all that matters. Next year will be your year to take back the Superbowl (the REFS lost for you last year)... Dont forget NO team has ever gone to the playoffs after losing the superbowl untill this year,(GO HAWKS) and the winning team(Steelers)didnt even make it to the playoffs.
THANKS FOR A AWESOME YEAR!!!!!!!! I cant wait for next season..

as dissapointed i am at the end of this season i am more optimistic than i was last year. in order for the seahawks to win the west again and advance farther into the playoffs key offseason moves need to be made.

1. lock up Josh Brown. If they let this guy go in free agency it will be the hutch loss of last year, the fact he put us in the playoffs this year and take away only two of his field goals and we dont make the playoffs.

2. draft offensivley. like it or not the hawk offense is ageing. matt, shaun, walter, bobby, mack are at the end of their primes. they probally each have one to two amazing years left in them. d players can be interchangeable (05 d was an example) and the our line backers and safetys look strong. draft good o linemen from big power schools that are used to big time football and if it is possible a big time running back to be shauns heir like he was to watters.

3. address the reciever position. the fact is the hawks have to many quality recievers. 5 guys that could easily start for most nfl teams. recievers are the most selfish players and none are going to like sitting on the bench. so why not make one of them trade bait??? d jack is a number one reciever but is constantly hurt and drops passes. bobby is old and ageing, yet still effective. deion and nate's contracts make them impossible to move. hackett played to well this year and did something that no hawk reciever in the past 4 years could do, catch every pass thrown to him. my two cents, trade jackson for a high draft pick or a young d player or safety, incase hamlin darts in the offseason.

4. marcus tubbs???. tubbs is a big factor this offseason. his big body was missed against the games against big backs like steven jackson and frank gore. if the team thinks he can rebound off injury he is a valuble asset on the d line. if not they might want to test the market for a big run stopper in the middle.

these are just four important things i see and think the hawks should address. i know the divison will be more difficult than last year but if the front office handles these situations well i see no reason why the hawks cant be back contending next year.

Gary,

What the hell kind of commentary is that? The Hawks have way more talent the whiner niners. We will win the division again next year and for several years after that.

I thought the Hawks were supposed to be sub .500 after the Super Bowl loss curse, the Madden Curse and the Campbell soup curse? If we were 9-7, went into the divisional round of the play-offs and overcame so much adversity plus all of these so called curses, we will be 14-2 next year and win the Super Bowl.

OK I think it is time for some people on these blogs to wash their mouths out with soap and soak their brains in bleach. Hanker, RHomo and all the other foul-mouthed troglodytes need to take their commentary to blogs more suitable for their banter.

Why did Matt seem to rush his decisions at times? Why didn't our running game gain as much? What is the one difference between thhis year and last year? We lost Hutch. We need another like him. Do whatever it takes in the draft to get one. One who blocks and is as big as a house...in fact, make his nick name...House....
Simple.....with Hutch in there, we would be playing at home...and we would have beaten Chicago at home...Plain. Simple

What has Dallas done the past 5 years? Who cares about their 5 super bowl rings. They have no corner backs, Roy Williams is done-TO should retire and Jerry Jones is a plastic surgeon nightmare. Romo is a 6 game wonder and will be a bust next season. Bears will not beat the Saints and the NFC is still way behind the AFC. Look out for another NE super bowl win.

I hear there is a new movie to be release this summer staring the Dallas Cowboys......its called "Brokeback Texas Guy". Something about a guy named Romo (roaming the desert with his secret cowboy lover). Apparently he was never able to get over his lost love in Seattle and is now learning how to snap/twirl his life back in a twisted love story.

Jason said:

Hey there is also a new Movie coming out called "I wish I knew how it feels to win the Big game"

Don't hate on the 5 rings. It is what the game is all about.

Okay, lets look at it the Seattle Sea Girl's way.

Seattle has had 6 playoff appearances.
Seattle has had 1 Super Bowl Apperance.

Here comes the most interesting stat.............

Seattle has NOTHING too show from it. NO CHAMPIONSHIP ring/trophies.

Are you happy now........This just show how many times the Sea Girls have failed. LMAO

So I guess making it to the playoffs is good enough for the people in the Northwest huh......

Jason said:

If you don't play for the Rings and the Championships, what do you all play for?

Oh yea thats right.......The Sea Girls play only to make the playoffs and thats it!

NEWS FLASH.........

Theres something called the SUPER BOWL and the LAMBARDI TROPHY. Oh.......and that ring you all seem to not care about. LMFAO..........

Hawker37 said:

Jason,

It is hard to drive when you are looking in the rearview mirror the whole time. The past means nothing. The only thing that matters is the current state of affairs. After Sunday the Hawks will no longer be the NFC Champs and after February the Steelers will not be the world champs. Life is cyclical and the sooner you understant that the better your life will be.

Jason said:

It appears that is the case there in Seattle today......Were in a car reck too. LMAO

AHHH..........I kinda feel bad hearing you talk this way. It sure is humbling losing huh.....Did you want that Hankie now....LOL

So now you are a preacher huh.......Take that speech down to Qwest Field and give it to Mike H.
Make hm feel better.LMAO

Joe said:

Since the Cowboys were bounced from the 1996 playoffs by the Panthers 10 years ago, they have yet to win a playoff game, losing the last four.....oh, now 5.

the little seabirds lost thats all that matters they suck and now the bears are moving on and by the way 5 superbowl rings is way better than uh.. 0?!?!! yeah thats what i thought... seabirds are getting old, cowboys still have julius jones, marion barber, a very underrated terry glenn and jason witten, and of course tony romo which all still have lots of time left on the team. it was only his (tony romos) first season hes just young, people like him are bound to make mistakes... just watch us next year... by the way bears are getting raped by the saints next week....
go cowboys next year!!

ps seahawks suck!!!!!!! haha

But, yet they all long too win one every year. Also, they praised all year that they were the defending NFC champs. ARE KIDDING ME!

I think Hawker37 just does not know how it feels to win one. I know if you talk to the 49ers and steeler fans (who have won 5 themselves) they would all share the same sentiment as the Cowboy fans.

Hawker37, the winning feeling is unexplainable. It is an experience that last a lifetime. It is unfortunate that you will never know what it feels like.

Hey look at this way.........at least you did not make it the big game and Blow it (like the Sea Girls did last year). LOL

Hey Jason, I would like to know how you can say that the Seahawks will never know the feeling of winning a championship. How do you know that? Tell me, I'd like to know.

It's been 21 years since the Bears last won a Super Bowl (their only appearance, I might add). The way I see it, if it really matters how many Super Bowls you win, then the Bears aren't much better than the Seahawks, since Seattle's been in one and lost it last year, while the Bears won in their only Super Bowl appearance. If it really matters how many Super Bowls you win, then how do the Bears stack up against, say, San Francisco, or Dallas, or Pittsburgh? If it really matters how many Super Bowls you win, then the Bears are really not as good as those teams, since those teams won multiple Super Bowls, Pittsburgh winning the majority of their appearances in the 1970s, San Francisco winning the majority of theirs in the 1980s, and Dallas winning the majority of theirs in the 1990s. So, the way I see it, if you really want to press the issue of how many times you win a Super Bowl, then you really don't have a whole lot of room to talk.

That is all. GO SEAHAWKS!!!

First of, I am a Cowboy Fan in case you did not catch that.

I can speak for the Super Bowl wins becasue I was around to celebrate, drink and enjoy it. Maybe you are in your teens or early 20's and it may seem so long ago too you. But,when the Cowboys won the majority of the Super Bowl I was right there with them savoring the moment.

Even if I am not a Bears fan.....they still have something Seattle will never have. I guess you know what it is.........a Super Bowl win.

Judging by the American Idol you all suck just as bad in singing.....LMAO

You all have been in the League since 1976 and have done nothing to show for all those years. So you have no room to speak of any other team.

I know you can't win them all, BUT DAMN WIN ONE AT LEAST.......LMAO

For now Hawk Nation, don't talk to me until you all have won something more than a NFC championship.
