The Big Hit Heard Around the World. It's a Seahawks memory I will never forget. The year was 1988. Denver Broncos cornerback Mike Harden layed out Hawks receiver Steve Largent. Largent's career came close to ending when he was bashed to the turf by Harden. Largent's helmet was mangled and two teeth were broken. He was out cold for five minutes. Now to the Seahawks memory. When the Broncos and Hawks met again that same season, Largent would get his revenge. After Harden intercepted a pass, Largent reacted with a monster tackle that sent Harden flying. What a play, what a moment. Largent admitted he wanted to hit Harden as hard as he could. "It wasn't meant to be a vindictive thing but it sure felt good," Largent said after the game. I shared my favorite Hawks-Broncos moment, what's yours? 7 Comments |
I remember brian bosworth heading to mike high country and all the hype bosworth received from the denver crowd. he could have stayed there as far as i'm concerned, but that game rings a bell for me.
I nearly cried like a baby when No. 80 took Harden down. After being out for weeks, Largent's first game back is in Denver! Hardest hit ever by a wide-out. Talk about the definition of retribution. If I had to pick a second, I seem to remember a whale of a comeback in 1995. Down 20-3 by the half, Mirer gets knocked out and John Friez comes in and wins the game.
Sorry Seahawk Fans, But I love John Elway and all the beatings he provided to your hawks.
I forget the year, but I remember Elway in Seattle and the broncos winning big. Elway and Easy Ed McCaffrey made rookie cornerback Shawn Springs look silly. I believe Easy Ed scored twice and the Broncos beats the Seahawks yet again. We'll see a similiar scene this sunday.
It is true that John Elway and the Broncos may have handed the Seahawk's a few losses on their way to being embarrased in three Superbowl appearances but my favorite Seahawk's memory has to be when they clobbered the Broncos in the Kingdome on their way to winning their first division title. I believe they scored on their first 5 or 6 possesions if I am correct. And with a new quarterback in the game for the Broncos and the Seahawks having their running back, quarterback, and offensive line back healthy I can't see what hope the Bronco's have on Sunday night versus the NFC champions.
seahawks.com used to have this clip in their multimedia section of their website, but since they've upgraded it they seem to have removed it. Too bad. Largent's revenge hit is definitely my favorite Seahawks-Broncos memories. Can anybody find that clip on the seahawks.com website?
I'm with you amos and egan, largents hit #1, and please computer wizards find the hit or play it on your sports show tonight, i haven't seen the hit in years, maybe one of the greatest seahawk plays of all time!
They don't make 'em like Largent anymore. With super paychecks comes an attitude of "I'm not going to hurt myself". So it seems that the skill possitions on offense are whimpy these days.
Largent's hit was amazing, but the little things he did made him great. He caught the routine ball, and made the great catches. His toe drag at the sidelines made him an icon in the wide reciever possition. How good would Hasselbeck be if he had a clutch reciever like Largent? I don't know how many dropped balls there have been this year, but it's reminisant of a couple years ago. I love D-Jack, but he's not a clutch reciever.
So to say it in too many words Largent's hit was not only my favorite Bronco memory, but my favorite hit in Seahawks history.
