Spoke to a pal who is also a Denver fan, and has been for years (well before I was born). Guy knows football (he routinely kicks you-know-what in his Fantasy league). The old man is worried for his Broncos, with Cutler behind the center. Worried about the mistakes a young QB makes. Kept saying he was worried about what the Hawks blitzing will do. Mumbled under his breath about an undersized Denver O-line. SI.com has an article that agrees with him, partly -- at least why Cutler won't be the next Romo or Rivers (at least not yet). Expert picks for this week? ESPN is behind, but is leaning with Denver. CBS Sportsline? 5 picked Seattle to win, 1 picked Denver. And finally, USA Today. Same thing -- 5 for the Hawks, 1 for Denver. Now I just have to talk my bud into flying into town to watch the game at the Alfstad abode. One of us should have the chance to gloat. His team kicked the Hawks you-know-what for so long with Elway behind the center, maybe this time...it'll be me. 2 Comments |
I HOPE YOU GET GLOATING RIGHTS, TOO, JUSTIN! I THINK IF WE CAN GET SOME PRESSURE UP FRONT WITH OUR LINE, THEN MAYBE WE CAN DROP GUYS BACK IN COVERAGE AND PLAY THEM KINDA' LIKE WE DID CAROLINA IN THE NFC CHAMPIONSHIP ROUT...UH...GAME LAST YEAR. MAYBE RATTLE THE YOUNG MAN. WE NEED TO GET SOME MOMENTUM THIS WEEK, THEN AGAINST ARIZONA, AND THEN LOAD UP FOR PAYBACK AND PUT OUR FOOT ON THE NECKS OF THE 9ER'S!!! GO...BIG BLUE!!!!!!!
Justin, I agree with your friend from Denver. Just look at the stats for the other two rookie QB's. Vince Young didn't crack a 50 passer rating in his first two starts. Matt Leinart had a 91.7 passer rating in his first start, but since then he's been up and down. Two games later, Leinart's passer rating dropped to a 36.3 against Oakland. So I'd be real surprised if Cutler does anything against the Hawks. I'm guessing they're gonna put 8 in the box to stop the run and dare Cutler to beat them.
