Hats off to Seneca Wallace. Hats off to the offensive line for stepping up and only allowing one sack. Hats off to Deion Branch -- what a stud. And hats off to the refs. Sadly, the defense is simply not good enough. Fans have to hope the Seahawks coaches figure this out, because the defense they're putting on the field does not look Super Bowl worthy. 35 points given up. Linebackers out of position. I don't mind Peterson getting beat by Tony Gonzalez. But third and long equals first down for the other team way too often. 499 yards by KC. Averaged twelve yards per pass. Hamlin having to make eleven tackles. Well, at least the schedule looks soft ahead. 8 Comments |
It just reinforces what I said in an earlier post today. Right now, our defense sucks. You know, they pay these guys millions of dollars to play football, and they go out there and miss tackles, get burned on long plays, etc. If they give a paycheck to somebody on the defense, they should give it to Ken Hamlin, because at least he was doing something worth earning it. Whatever happened to Ray Rhode's philosophy of bringing every helmet to the football. Seems they have forgotten all about that.
I agree with you, Justin, kudos to the offense. They played great, despite giving up at the end (Wallace's pass to Mack Strong on 4th and whatever-the-heck it was; why didn't he throw a "Hail Mary"?). But still, four touchdowns, and that nice recovery by Dieon Branch after KC intercepted late in the game (If we had won, and I was the coach, I'd have given Branch the game ball for that one play) were the highlights for Seattle.
All told, I think the offense is doing a fairly good job, but the Seahawks really need to figure out what to do about the defense.
We have to do something about our defense. I don't know how many missed tackles we had but it was too many to count. And whatever the coaches are doing in practice with the secondary to keep the other teams from getting big plays is not working. How does Trufant let Kennison get behind him late in the fourth quarter. In that situation the last thing you can do as a DB is to let a reciever get behind you. I love Trufant and all, we were friends at Wilson High in Tacoma, but it seems like he is getting beat deep more and more and I think that there has got to be something done about it. I guess the only good news about this week is that the Rams lost and we have Oakland at home next week who somehow beat the Steelers with only 98 offensive yards.
A Defense this terrible and yet you have other bloggers on Steelers sites still whining about the officiating in the Super Bowl? Please. Give that up and focus on the present. We certainly have enough to focus on - what with a quarterback who has been banged around so much he doesn't know which end is up, a coach with one foot out the door, etc., etc., Get off the Steelers, they need a year to get back on thier feet.
I THINK PEOPLE ARE STILL "WHINING" ABOUT THE SUPER BOWL BECUASE IT'S AN INCOMPERABLE TRAVESTY IN THE SPORTS WORLD TO HAVE SUCH BLATENT SLATED OFFICIATING IN A GAME OF THAT MAGNITUDE, IN A SPORT THAT HAS UNTIL LAST SEASON BEEN CONSIDERED ON THE LEVEL. FOR A TEAM THAT WAITED AS LONG AS SEATTLE, SUFFERING THROUGH SO MANY TERRIBLE DISAPPOINTMENTS, TO GET THEIR TIME IN THE SPOTLIGHT, AND HAVE IT END THAT WAY MAKES IT SOMETHING DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO FORGET. COACH HOLMGREN'S JOB ON THE LINE??? WHY?? HE CAN'T HELP IF HIS DEFENSIVE FRONT SEEMS UN-INSPIRED, HIS SECONDARY COULD'NT STOP A JV TEAMS RUNNING OR PASSING GAME, AND WE HAVE A 3RD OR MORE OF OUR TEAM PERPETUALLY INJURED, OR REHABBING, THE OFFENSIVE LINE HAS BEEN MOSTLY, WELL, "OFFENSIVE". I THINK HE'S DONE THE BEST HE COULD WITH WHAT HE'S GOT. I THIK WE'VE TRIED TO COVER SOME OFF-SEASON MISTAKES BY OUR FRONT OFFICE, WITH BUYING TALENT THAT HAS ALTERED A WINNING CHEMISTRY OF A BYGONE SEASON. WHERE TO GO FROM HERE???
We have no defense. Marcus Trufant should have been benched weeks ago or coached to success. Wistrom is too old to be effective. The defense is just pouting out there, not playing. The offense is uninspired. Wallace did a commendable job and at least it was not the uninspired play of Holmgren and Hasslebeck. But the defense is just out coached, out played, and ineffective. How many weeks does it it take to figure out that we can not defend runs, passes, basic tackling, attacks to the quarterbacks? I am no football coach, but I can observe mediocrity or less in the defense.
I like the comment made that "at least the schedule looks soft ahead". Sorry Justin, but the way our defense is playing we would be lucky if the other team gave us the game. Let's face it our defense down right stinks. Missed tackles, blown coverage need I say more. The secondary needs to go back to tackling school. Right now they couldn't tackle a tackling dummy if it was standing still!
I THINK THE CHEWING OUT MIKE HOLMGREN GAVE THE ENTIRE TEAM AT THE HALF OF THE RAMS GAME NEEDS TO BE SHARED NOW WITH THE COACHING STAFF, ESPECIALLY MARSHAL. THESE GUYS NEED TO KNOW THAT THERE JOBS ARE PREDICATED UPON THEIR PLAYERS BEING PREPAREDTO PLAY AS WELL. OTHER TEAM'S COACHING STAFFS AND PLAYERS ARE NOT JUST WADING INTO OUR GAMES WONDERING WHAT OUR TENDENCIES ARE. THEY HAVE SCOUTED US, AND HAVE FIGURED OUT WHAT HAS WORKED FOR US, NOW WE NEED TO ADJUST. WE WERE PLAYING WELL UP UNTILL THE LAST QUARTER OF THE GIANTS GAME. WHATEVER STARTED HAPPENING, STARTED THEN , AND AGAINST THE BEARS. MAYBE WE SHOULD GO BACK AND STUDY FILM FRON THE GAMES WE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN, AND THEN COMPARE THEM TO WHATEVER HAS HAPPENED LATELY. WHAT HAPPENED TO US AGAINST MINNESOTA WAS INEXCUSABLE. OUR FANS HAVE BEEN A HUGE STAPLE OF OUR RECENT SUCCESS, AND DESERVE BETTER THAN TO HAVE A WHIPPING LIKE THAT HAPPEN IN OUR PLACE. THAT'S BEEN A BIG ADVANTAGE FOR US, AND WE NEED TO KEEP OUR CROWD COMING IN NUMBERS, AND THRILLED OVER THEIR TEAM, EXPECTING TO AT LEAST COMPETE, IF NOT WIN THERE. I WAS SORRY TO LOSE MATT, BUT HE DOES'NT PLAY DEFENSE, NEITHER DOES WALLACE. LATELY, IT DOES'N T LOOK LIKE WE WANT TO WIN, OR TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY ENOUGH. I KEEP HEARING THE PLAYERS SAY THINGS LIKE, IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD, IT'S STILL EARLY, WE'VE GOT SOME THINGS TO FIX, BUT WE'LL BE O.K., ETC. HEY, I'M ALL FOR HAVING A POSITIVE OUTLOOK, BUT NOT TO THE POINT OF DENYING REALITY. WE'RE LOOKING HELPLESS RIGHT NOW, AND WE'D BETTER CARE MORE, AND FIGURE THIS OUT, OR WE'RE GOING TO DESCEND BACK INTO THE DEEP RECESSES OF PUBLIC RIDUCULE AND ANONIMITY, WHERE WE'VE DWELT FOR THE LAST 20 SOME YEARS. COME ON HAWKS!!!! WAKE UP!!!
I agree with you, Mr. Sims. Better yet, though, I think they need to dust off the films from the 2005 season and review those films. It's amazing to me that our defense is made up of players we had during our Super Bowl run last year, yet they don't seem to have the will or the fire or the desire to play up to the standards they set in 2005. Somebody needs to kick them in the rear and wake them up, or we are going to be seeing more of the same stuff we're seeing now.
